MJE completed a feeder split/reconfiguration in Boone County,
Illinois. The project required coordination between MJE
substation, distribution, and distribution automation
commissioning crews. Construction included:
Substation:
• Install new DC-IN-A-BOX® transformer
- Heavy hauling and placement
- Conduit and cable installation
- Terminations
• Support Testing Group
Distribution:
• Reconfigure and rebuild the existing 34 kV and 12 kV line
around the station
- Set 10 poles for new 12 kV feeder
- Replace 8 poles for existing 12 kV and 34 kV line
• Install automatic line restoration switches (ALRS) to
increase sub-transmission reliability
DA Commissioning:
• Upgrade firmware and install teaming information for the
ALRS scheme
• Configure SCADA operation for remote switching
capabilities
• Install and adjust settings as set forth by the OCC for
DC-IN-A-BOX® transformer and CL-6 regulators
This project has brought an additional feed and automated
switching to the area which will increase system reliability while
maintaining no customer impact for the duration of the project.
Consumer Energy Line
Rebuilds
M. J. Electric crews continue construction on Consumers
Energy’s Blackstone-Churchill 46 kV and Parnall-Blackstone
46 kV Line rebuilds in Jackson County, Michigan. These
projects run in conjunction with Michigan Electric
Transmission Company’s Marshall-Blackstone Line rebuild
prompted by the impending widening of I-94. The projects
include replacing 11 poles with new wood poles along with
framing and wiring over 40 poles on joint structures owned
by International Transmission Company. The terrain is
mostly wild brush with some areas of swamp which requires
the use of screw and/or swamp anchors on specific poles.
The projects began spring of last year and are scheduled to
be completed in early 2017.
