Summary:
John has over 28 years of in Industrial Construction to include Power Generation, Transmission, Pharmaceutical,
Food Process, Textile, and General Manufacturing Plants. Throughout these 28 years John has been driven to
foster a work environment where Quality and Safety are paramount. John has strived to build a safety culture
within his numerous teams that has allowed him to achieve a ZERO recordable rate for his employees. Obtaining
his unlimited electrical licenses has allowed him the opportunity to “do things the right the first time” which in turn
has reduced the risk and improved the quality of each of the projects he has supervised. The following is a
detailed breakdown of some of the major projects.

list of Projects which most was at Duke Energy Site’s
05/13 – Present Duke Energy – Marshall Steam Station
Project Superintendent (Multiple Sites)
Currently providing management for:
Coal dust mitigation for replacement of all affected electrical equipment from an
unprotected system to a class 2 div 1 and div 2 location.
The Dan River de-coupling project, installation of a new PDC building, Motor
Control Center, and Relays.
Flue Gas Desulphurization drawing and panel label upgrade.
Marshall Unit 4 Generator outage to replace multiple Motor Control Centers with
Arch Flash Rated Motor Control Centers.
Marshall Unit 4 GE voltage regulator upgraded with New Basler
Marshall Unit 4 Generator Relay upgrade. Replaced all mechanical relays with
SEL and BECKWITH. Also installed new digital fault recorder.
Installation of Activated Carbon Injection system for Unit 4 which consists of
installing 75 foot Silo to include all conveyance piping to duct, Installation of
switch gear and all associated electrical interface including new DCS and MCC
installation.
Duke - Walters Hydro Station

Review and plan for 2015 upgrade with new Motor Control Centers, Switchgear, PLC
upgrade, and Mechanical Relays to be replaced with new SEL.
11/12 – 05/13 Duke Energy – Marshall Steam Station Unit 3
Electrical Superintendent
Relocated 575 volt critical loads from MCC-G, MCC-D, MCC-E
Replaced 575 Motor Control Centers G,D,E
Replaced Unit 3 voltage regulator with a new BASLER.
Removed all mechanical relays on Unit 3 gen and upgrade them with SEL and
BECKWITH type relay.
Installed digital fault recorder on Unit 3
11/10 – 11/12 Duke Energy – Alliance
Electrical Superintendent
Provided management of miscellaneous electrical projects with in the Duke Energy
Carolina’s Fossil and Hydro Fleet. Projects included but not limited to Coal Tunnel
Reclassification Upgrade, Substation Transformer Change Outs, 13.8 Switchgear
2. Change Out, Excitation Systems, Flue Gas Detection, Cliffside plant electrical systems
verification, along with ongoing maintenance, outages and instrument tech support.
04/10 – 11/10 Duke Energy - Marshall Steam Station - 230KV
Electrical Superintendent
Installation of a duct bank, grounding system, setting 4 each 242kv breakers, reworking
the overhead distribution lines and 5” 230kv bus systems, ground disconnect switches,
lock out relays, 125 volt DC system. The installation was completed systematically in an
energized 230kv switchyard.
12/09 – 04/10 Duke Energy - Cliffside Steam Station - Unit 5 Control Room Upgrade
Electrical Superintendent
Control room was upgraded from the existing PLC system to updated DCS.
Modifications included relocating 4000 wire terminations which had to be individually
tracked down and identified due to the condition of the existing drawings. This project
required extensive coordination between engineering, the client, and the construction
team. The majority of the research and tracing of conductors was completed pre-outage.
12/09 – 04/10 Duke Energy - Cliffside Steam Station - Unit 5 BFP
Electrical Superintendent
Installation of a new lube oil pressure system from an HPU, self-shut down systems with
oil pressure system failure and emergency pump system as a backup.
10/09 – 11/09 Duke Energy - Buck Steam Station
Electrical Superintendent
Upgrade Soot/Bottom Ash Controls, removed PLC program system and replaced with
new DCS system. Two week plant outage. This was coordinated with the owner to
maximize pre outage work.
06/08 – 09/09 Duke Energy - Allen Steam Station - Dry Ash Conversion

Electrical Superintendent for installing a new Dry Ash self-conveying system that would
move ash from the hoppers through feeders then out to the 2 silo’s about 1000ft away,
which was then remotely dumped into awaiting trucks for transport. This work included
installing new Electrical Equipment: 13.8kv transformer, 4.160kv switchgear, 4.160kv air
compressor PDC building, and a 480v Motor Control Center. Installation of over 153,955
feet of cable, 33,200 feet of conduit/cable tray installed, and over 12,000 terminations.
03/09 – 08/09 Duke Energy - Allen Steam Station - Ash Landfill
Electrical Superintendent
Electrical Superintendent for which is monitoring the run off of water thru filter traps from
the Ash pile. Installed two auto control center, with auto transfer switches, pump control
panels, 112kv transformers, and new 600volt buckets in MCC, 44, 045 feet of wire
installed, 4360 feet of duck bank.
05/09 – 07/09 Fence Grounding - Belmont, NC

Electrical Superintendent for installing over 10,000 feet of bare copper wire making
connection every 50ft of liner fence, installing isolators where fence crossed under 100kv-
230kv distribution lines. Installed 9,500 feet of new fencing.

Electrical Superintendent for the installation of new ups system that is for the 125vdc
power for the 13.8 switchgear which is the main power supply from the dry ash system
and the FGD system.
