3. What is a mixture?
• A combination of 2 or more substances, that
can be separated physically.
• No specific proportions, they just mix
• Solids, liquids, and gases can combine to
create mixtures.
• When you create a mixture, no new substance
is formed, each part of the mixture keeps its
own properties.

Homogeneous
Heterogeneous
• Materials are evenly
distributed
• Appears to be only
one substance even
though there is more
than one material in
the mixture.
• 1 phase
• Examples:
• Not distributed
evenly
• Can see more than
one type of material
in the mixture
• More than 1 phase
• Examples:

5. Phase
Each material that you can see in a mixture is
considered 1 phase.

6. Complete your mixture foldable…
Step 1: fold on the SOLID LINES so that the pictures
are on the outside.
Step 2: Cut on the DOTTED LINES to create 8 flaps
Step 3: Underneath each flap, write if the picture is
showing a MIXTURE, or NOT A MIXTURE
Step 4: Tape your foldable into your notebook.
