Nike was founded in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman with a $500 investment each. Bowerman was a track coach and conceived the idea of a grooved shoe sole pattern. Nike's mission is to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete, defined broadly by co-founder Bowerman as anyone with a body. Their vision is to inspire all people in the world through athletic gear and attire.
