The Cathedral and the Bazaar - musings on iPhone and AndroidDavid Jones
I discuss if the iphone is an unstoppable force and propose that entrepreneurs and developers consider the coming wave of handsets that are more open and "more betterer" for the public. Otherwise we face a lock-in of our own "early-adopter" creation.
Sorry I don't talk about the Palm, I've had many iterations since the Palm1000 but I don't think they can make it without Appstore, great developer community and/or awesome content. Its just a device and that is not enough now.
An interpretation on the role mobile has in our lives and the role it should play today for marketers, created for IAB South East Asia Mobile training seminar in November 2014.
Based on my original article (http://bit.ly/invisible-future) written in 2017, this talk at UX Alive 2018 in Istanbul further explored how sensors and physical context awareness are radically transforming our approach to designing and developing digital products.

The Global Positioning System time epoch is ending and another one is beginning, an event that could affect your devices or any equipment or legacy system that relies on GPS for time and location.
Most clocks obtain their time from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). But the atomic clocks on satellites are set to GPS time. The timing signals you can get from GPS satellites are very accurate and globally available. And so they’re often used by systems as the primary source of time and frequency accuracy.

Exploring The Omnichannel Commerce ExperienceNeedle
Are your competitors beating you in the Omni-channel race?
Many companies worry about creating "New and improved" customer experiences by expanding into channels they know nothing about. Not only can this become a huge money pit, but it can also distract you from the more important race: reaching your target customers.
Knowing that shoppers are increasingly engaging with more than one channel in their decision journey, it’s thus important to understand each step and activity along the way.
During the Quirk's Event in Brooklyn on March 22, we and Mars Petcare explained how to map customer journeys to optimize touch points and influence the interaction of channel behavior.

History has many examples of powerful companies that seem to be unbeatable. Then in a short time they become irrelevant due to new companies with new ideas. One of the factors in such transformation is technology. Never in history has technological change been so important in building and destroying companies.
We look at few examples of successful companies that fail to address the changing times and become disrupted. We also look at why technology emerges when it does and why some ideas can only be realised when certain conditions are met.
In this first lecture we set the tone for the course and define the themes that we will be looking at.

Digital Commerce Lecture for Advanced Digital & Social Media Strategy at UCLA...Valters Lauzums
E-commerce in 2024 is characterized by a dynamic blend of opportunities and significant challenges. Supply chain disruptions and inventory shortages are critical issues, leading to increased shipping delays and rising costs, which impact timely delivery and squeeze profit margins. Efficient logistics management is essential, yet it is often hampered by these external factors. Payment processing, while needing to ensure security and user convenience, grapples with preventing fraud and integrating diverse payment methods, adding another layer of complexity. Furthermore, fulfillment operations require a streamlined approach to handle volume spikes and maintain accuracy in order picking, packing, and shipping, all while meeting customers' heightened expectations for faster delivery times.
Amid these operational challenges, customer data has emerged as an important strategy. By focusing on personalization and enhancing customer experience from historical behavior, businesses can deliver improved website and brand experienced, better product recommendations, optimal promotions, and content to meet individual preferences. Better data analytics can also help in effectively creating marketing campaigns, improving customer retention, and driving product development and inventory management.
Innovative formats such as social commerce and live shopping are beginning to impact the digital commerce landscape, offering new ways to engage with customers and drive sales, and may provide opportunity for brands that have been priced out or seen a downturn with post-pandemic shopping behavior. Social commerce integrates shopping experiences directly into social media platforms, tapping into the massive user bases of these networks to increase reach and engagement. Live shopping, on the other hand, combines entertainment and real-time interaction, providing a dynamic platform for showcasing products and encouraging immediate purchases. These innovations not only enhance customer engagement but also provide valuable data for businesses to refine their strategies and deliver superior shopping experiences.
The e-commerce sector is evolving rapidly, and businesses that effectively manage operational challenges and implement innovative strategies are best positioned for long-term success.
It's another new era of digital and marketers are faced with making big bets on their digital strategy. If you are looking at modernizing your tech stack to support your digital evolution, there are a few can't miss (often overlooked) areas that should be part of every conversation. We'll cover setting your vision, avoiding siloes, adding a democratized approach to data strategy, localization, creating critical governance requirements and more. Attendees will walk away with actions they can take into initiatives they are running today and consider for the future.
