Mise-en-scène refers to the visual elements of a theatrical production or film that establish time, location, and story. It has five key aspects: settings and props provide context about the genre and plot; costume, hair, and makeup reveal character traits; facial expressions and body language convey emotions and intentions; lighting and color are used to draw attention or set mood; and positioning of characters and objects can indicate relationships or importance. Mise-en-scène uses these visual elements to tell the story in an artistic way.
