This document summarizes Jesus' teaching that those who do the will of God are part of his family, rather than just one's biological relatives. It discusses an episode where Jesus' mother and brothers come to see him, but Jesus says his true family is anyone committed to God's will. Doing God's will of loving him and others makes one Jesus' brother, sister or mother. The document encourages readers to build God's family by being understanding, enlightening and warm towards those undergoing trials. It describes an after school program that aims to rebuild children's trust and hope through creating a welcoming family atmosphere.
Col 3:1-2 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Homily: 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Cycle A 2017James Knipper
The Parable of the Ten Virgins is enriched with a number of metaphorical images designed to drive home the message of always being prepared. But was does that mean to you and me? What does that look like? And tapping into one of today’s Gospel metaphors, what is the oil that we need to be placing in our lamps?
Rather than focusing on End Time what would happen to our lives if we spent that energy living in Now Time, This Time, Present and Presence? See what I mean and check it out….
But why are we still celebrating Easter? Fifty days seems like a long time to be singing Alleluia - and we are only half way through the season. And so, it is at this midway point, that we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday – a title taken from the today’s famous gospel passage.
So why do we call Christ the Good Shepherd? And how can insight from a New Mexico shepherd help us to use all of our senses in order to uncover the Gospel message and of how we can find Christ today? Check it out.

This is a series of writings dealing with the persecution of Christians and the fear of facing trial. Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will speak through them and give them what they need to say in their defense.
This Sunday we hear the familiar Gospel of the woman who was caught in adultery and about to be stoned. Meanwhile the Scribes and the Pharisees, keepers of the Jewish Law, are not very happy with all the attention Jesus is getting, so they a lay trap for him. What does Christ do? Does he focus on the sin or the shame?
The insight to what this Gospel is really all about is broken open by a Jesuit working with the gangs in LA. See what I mean.

Are your fears, weaknesses, doubts, and anger keeping you from intimacy with Christ? Do you struggle with despair? Let St. Therese teach you perfect trust. Learn how Therese of Lisieux trusted God through tragedy, scruples, spiritual darkness, and physical suffering.
Jesus said to "Love your enemies." It's a revolutionary kind of love. We are to love like this because our Heavenly Father loves like this.
The message was given on Sept 22, 2013 at New City Church in Calgary by Pastor John Ferguson. For more info, go to www.NewCityChurch.ca.
This is a study of Jesus being in favor of inhospitality toward those who promote false doctrine. Believers are not to welcome them and thereby approve of their false doctrine.

Homily: 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A 2017James Knipper
“Many are invited, but few are chosen” may be one of the most misinterpreted and misused scripture passages ever written. Used by many to divide and exclude, actually when you understand the context of this parable you will see that it is all about how to include and be open to an invitation that is always present for all people.
Sounds confusing? It’s not. See what I mean…

ONLY one desire has found expression in the prepa-
ration of this book, — to present the Christ of the
Gospels as One who satisfies the reason as well as the
heart of Believers.
Truth is relative in the minds of post-Christian, post-modern and Emergent type "followers" of Christ. The authentic Truth is under attack and often by our very own family members and closest friends. Finding a friend who believes what Proverbs 27:6 says is simply quite rare now days:
Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.
It is rare that a believer holds to the Truth in absolute fact, value and doctrine in all places, situations and relationships. -Dr. Stephen Phinney
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

4. His mother and relatives of the family went to Capernaum,
where Jesus was staying with his disciples and proclaiming to
everyone there the Father’s love.
5. They had probably walked far to find him and they wanted to
talk to him.
6. They did not enter the place where Jesus was, but sent a
message,
7. “Your mother and your brothers are
outside, asking to speak with you.”
9. They themselves were considered to be “children” of God and
heirs to his promises. Furthermore,
the people of Israel regarded one another as “brothers.”
10. But Jesus opened up an unexpected perspective. With a solemn
gesture of his hand, he pointed to his disciples and said:
11. “For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven
is my brother and sister and mother.”
12. Jesus revealed a new dimension: anyone at all can feel part of
this family, if that person is committed to knowing and
fulfilling the will of the one Father.
13. Anyone: adult or child, man or woman, healthy or ill, from
every culture and social position.
21. “For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven
is my brother and sister and mother.”
22. In a certain way, we too can be the “mother” of Jesus.
23. Just as Mary made
herself available to God
from the moment of the
Annunciation, up to
Calvary, and then on to
the birth of the Church,
24. so we too can give birth and rebirth to Jesus in ourselves by
living the Gospel. Then, through our mutual love, we can
contribute to generating the presence of Jesus in the collectivity.
25. On one occasion, when Focolare founder Chiara Lubich was
addressing a group of people eager to put into practice
the Word of God, she said:
26. Are there people among you who are undergoing a spiritual
or a moral trial?
“Be a family.
27. Be understanding of them as a mother would, and even more.
Enlighten them through your word or example. Don’t let them
lack the warmth of a family, but rather increase it.
28. “Are there people among you who are suffering physically?
May they be our preferred brothers and sisters.
29. “Never put any activity of any kind before that of generating the
spirit of family with those brothers and sisters
with whom you are living.
30. “And wherever you go to bring Christ’s ideal ... the best thing
to do will be to create with discretion and prudence, but with
solid conviction, the spirit of a family.
31. It is a humble spirit; it wishes the best for everyone;
it is not proud; it is
... true charity.”
32. “For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven
is my brother and sister and mother.”
33. Each one of us in everyday life can discover the task that
the Father has entrusted to us for the building up of the
great human family.
34. In Homs, Syria, more than 150 children, mostly Muslims,
attend after school sessions in a Greek Orthodox school.
35. Sandra, the director, explained: “We are a team of teachers
and specialists, and our aim is to create a family atmosphere
of welcome and support. Our work is based on dialogue and
the promotion of values.
36. “Many children are affected by the trauma and suffering
that they have experienced.
37. Some are apathetic, others aggressive. We want to rebuild
their trust in themselves and in others. The war often
causes division among families, but here they find the desire
and the hope to start again.”
