This document summarizes research on accommodating neurodiversity in Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system. The author conducted interviews with individuals with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, their caregivers, and experts. Sensory mapping and wayfinding analysis was also performed at Outram Park station. Key findings included needs for sensitive lighting and acoustics, intuitive wayfinding, and retreat spaces. Gaps identified were over-lit stations, inconsistent sensory transitions, and limited seating arrangements. Proposals recommended sensitive lighting, sensor-assisted transitions, minimal decision wayfinding, and proxemic seating designs. The document concludes that making transportation systems more accessible benefits neurodiverse individuals and moves society toward greater inclusiveness

The announcement noises at every stop could be a gentler thing. Instead of like,

I feel that the most distressing part of an MRT station is the escalators. Yeah, it's
right there at your eye and it's, and it's bright, dark, bright, dark, like that.

At that moment (in the train) I don't need the information about the station plan.
I'm already so anxious about just getting off at the right time (Adult with ADHD)

pick longer routes if that means I’ll be making less decisions (Adult with ADHD)

What really helps is preparing them (their child with ASD) for what's coming up,
or going to the station or what's going to happen
“
I noticed that finding the board with the station exits is easier at some stations,
but at others I have to go hunt for it. (Caregiver of child with ASD)

61. The End
My (capstone) topic is a little sensitive - so it’s taking a while to get approved. We’ll
see in a month. If I see you again I’ll let you know if I’m dropping out of college or
not.
