A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

3. 1.
The founder of this company’s explanation as to how he
came up with the name:-
“One day I was in San Francisco in a coffee shop, and I was
thinking X is a good name. And then a waitress came, and I
said, "Do you know about X?" And she said yes. I said,
"What do you know about X?", and she said, “Y". And I said,
"Yes, this is the name!" Then I went onto the street and
found 30 people and asked them, "Do you know X?" People
from India, people from Germany, people from Tokyo and
China … they all knew about X. X is a kind, smart business
person, and he helped the village. So … easy to spell, and
globally known. “

9. 3. The X was found in 1858, making it one
year older than the one found at Shanghai,
and probably the oldest one in the East. X
had to shift base quite a few times. It started
off with a thatched roof on the bank of the
Hooghly near Chandpal Ghat. This lasted till
1864 when a disastrous cyclone swept the
whole place away. The next was at Fortpoint
in 1865, but only after much argument with
the inmates of the Fort who alleged that it
would interfere with the field of fire of some
of their guns. Subsequently, it tried out other
places, which include – Strand Road, Adi
Ganga and Kidderpore before it shifted to its
present location.

15. 5. The inspiration behind this is not clear and hence,
attributed to one of the two men- either George Villiers (16-
17th century) or Prince Regent George (late 18th century).
- The first was an up-start who wormed his way into the court
of King James I. George Villiers was likely a bisexual, who
had an intense and fairly well-documented attachment to
the king. George loved the ladies and was rumoured to be
fond of seducing noblemen’s wives – sometimes without the
consent of the ladies in question.
-Prince Regent George was enormously fat, and notoriously
gluttonous. He couldn’t fit regular clothes. He wasn’t the
sharpest tool in the shed, but he definitely loved the ladies.
Prince George once attended a bare-knuckle boxing match
which left one contestant dead. He ran away and hid himself,
afraid of a potential scandal.

21. 7.A : When I was doing X, I was about the same age that you are
right now, and Norman Lloyd said to me, “You have no idea how
lucky you are. You guys think you are having a nice time but you
don’t know how rare an experience this is.” He was in his 70s and
he was saying that the experience of making X was unique. And
I feel a little way like that towards you.
B : Yeah, I’m terrified to work on another project.
A : You’ll be profoundly disappointed. [Laughs] The first time I
saw X I thought it was a good film in the parts I wasn’t in. But
every time I came on screen it turned into some home movie
and I was hearing a screeching sound, like an alarm. Did you
have any feelings like that watching Y? It must have been
weirder for you because there was so much of it that you don’t
even remember doing.

about things. At some time in my life, I’ve been
obsessed or borderline-obsessed with saltwater
aquariums, the baritone euphonium, reading, piano,
filming, financial markets, (and certain other

$3,000 in student loans and bet it on Barack Obama
to win the presidency. A friend heard about this bet
and got me a job trading bonds on the Chicago Board

for awhile. But then it went really bad.
Whoops. After I lost my trading job, I decided to (his

decision, but so far it’s gone pretty well. And I’ve met
some amazing people along the way. Fill in the

According to Narayan Sanyal’s novel Rupamanjari, the genesis of X
actually goes back to the matrimony alliance between the two seats of
power in two different parts of present day West Bengal. The story goes
that a girl from the then Krishnanagar royal household was married to
a son from Burdwan royal household. When she became pregnant she
lost her appetite and refused to eat any food. During this time she
expressed a desire to eat this – something that artisans from her
maternal home used to manufacture.
The then ruler of Krishnanagar made arrangements to find out who
prepared X but no one in Krishnanagar seemed to be aware of this
Apparently even the lady did not remember the name. She had
mentioned “X” because the artisan who used to prepare this used to
limp and walk .Then the artisan was summoned to the Krishnagar
court and was sent off to Burdwan. He was lured with lands to settle in
Burdwan so that he could prepare delicacies for the royalty.
