ENC 3250 Professional
Writing: Midterm
Reflection
2. What did I learn?
Chapter 4 was about correspondence
Complaint letters, international correspondence, cover
letters, memos, and refusals are some examples of what I
learned in chapter 4.
In this chapter I also learned the importance of knowing
the audience of your correspondence.
Another important lesson was the format of letters,
memos and other types of correspondences.

4. How did I learn it?
I learned about writing complaint letters from the
first writing assignment we had.
In that letter I had to make sure my tone was
professional and courteous, but still strong.
Having to peer review someone else’s complaint
letter was very beneficial to me. I work very well in a
group setting and seeing how someone else
interpreted the assignment was interesting.
5. Why does this learning matter?
In life you will come across negative situations that
need to addressed in a complaint letter. It is
important to know how to write a letter that sounds
professional and courteous not belligerent and
unreasonable.
In business there is a lot of writing. It may be in the
form of an email or it might be a quick memo.
Having the knowledge to write in any style is very
important.
6. How will I use this learning in the future?
I am graduating this spring and already have a job
set up. A part of my job will be corresponding to
customers. Having the knowledge of professional
writing will be very beneficial.
7. What did I learn?
Chapter 10 was about style and clarity in your
writing.
This chapter covers awkwardness, parallel structure,
and sentence variety that will help you construct
clear sentences and paragraphs.
Chapter 10 also covers the important subjects of
biased language, business writing style, and the
"you" viewpoint.
8. How did I learn it?
I learned all the topics of this chapter by watching
the video presentation. This chapter was included in
the second unit test.
9. Why does this learning matter?
This chapter was a about word choice which is really
handy. It is not good to repeat words throughout an
assignment for school or a professional
correspondence.
The biased language was also important to learn.
Some times I don’t even realize the words I use can
be considered biased.
10. How will I use this learning in the future?
In my professional life I will definitely make sure my
words are unbiased, and my sentences are clear
when corresponding to customers and colleagues.
