What are the best practices to change this? Let’s break it down.
What is the best video conferencing app?
A great meeting starts with a great video conferencing app. What is ideal for you? Here are my personal experiences. At the end of the day, every platform will give you the same basic features. Great screen sharing experience, good camera quality and audio. But there are differences to their user experience.
Zoom
Zoom is a leader (and arguably the most high-profile of the pack) in the VU\UC industry, tackling unified communications with their cloud platform for video, audio conferencing, collaboration, chat, and webinars across all endpoints.
Advantages:
Free version available
Can easily join a meeting, don’t even have to sign in
Really fast to open the app and get started
Easy to share meeting details using meeting ID and password
Easy to use interface
Options for hardware GPU acceleration for enhanced performance
Disadvantages:
Second screen support is not strong
Whiteboard is weak and very basic; very hard and frustrating to use
No presentation mode at all
No integration with Outlook to create and distribute meetings – need to do it from the zoom app
Zoom’s strength is the simplicity of the software. You can launch and join a meeting within a few seconds. Everyone distributes the ID and password, and you don’t even need to login and authenticate to join if you have the relevant information.

connects us together. But it is not designed for engaging
presentations.
• There is an assumption that every user will just stick to a
single PowerPoint deck and just talk. Just because they are
appearing like a floating ghost besides their content
doesn’t change the boredom factor.
• It might be interesting for a few minutes, but it quickly
becomes more of the same. There is very little control
• Engaging meetings required many different ingredients: you
must be able to elevate your presence, be non-linear in how
you present and be visual throughout your presentation.

• You must be customer centric and listen. Most
importantly writing down questions, marking up
content and highlighting important points is a
critical element of building engagement.
• Underlining a key point can go a long way of
reinforcing what you are saying. Crossing out
something that the customer does not like shows that
you are listening and agree.
• This is how you build consensus.
