Microprocessor
• A microprocessor is a computer processor which
incorporates the functions of a computer's central
processing unit (CPU) on a single integrated circuit (IC)
• Accepts binary data as input, processes it according to
instructions stored in its memory and provides results
(also in binary form) as output
2
Brain of Microprocessor
• ALU performs all arithmetic and logical operations on the
data received from input devices or memory.
• Register array consists of a series of registers like
accumulator (A), B, C, D etc. which acts as temporary fast
access memory locations for processing data.
• Control unit controls the flow of instructions and data
throughout the system.

Microcontrollers
• A microcontroller is a compact integrated circuit
designed to govern a specific operation in an
embedded system.
• A typical microcontroller includes a processor,
memory and input/output (I/O) peripherals on a single
chip.

MCQs
• A microprocessor with the necessary support circuits will include at least
two memory ICs: ROM or EPROM, and a RAM. (True or False)
• A microcontroller integrates multichip systems with RAM, ROM, and I/O.
(True or False)
• A microprocessor has a on chip ROM (True or False)
• Which of the following part of the microprocessor is close related to
register? (Processor / CPU / ALU / Memory)
• ________________ is the best example of embedded technology.
