13. 1). SAMPLE COLLECTION
 Sample will be collected from susceptible TB patient.
 Sample (if sputum) should consist of recently discharged material from the bronchial tree.
2). STAINING
 The screening for bacilli of Mycobacterium tuberculosis would be carried out by acid fast
staining by the Ziehl-Neelson(ZN) Method.

14.  All the samples would be cultured in media only after screening test.
 The sample which will show more than 10 bacilli per field will be further studied for the
sputum culture.

17.  Tuberculosis is a serious but curable illness and can be fatal if left untreated.
Treatment : combination of 3-4 different antibiotics given over a 6-9 months
 If treatment is stopped too soon, it is possible to become ill again; also if the
drugs are not taken correctly, the germs that are still alive may become resistant
to those drugs.
 In rare cases, TB can be fatal even with treatment. Death can occur if the lungs
become too damaged to work properly.
