The Mexican red knee tarantula has an dark colored body with orange patches on its legs. An adult female has a body around 4 inches long with a leg span of 6-7 inches. It eats small insects, frogs, lizards and sometimes mice using its venomous fangs. The spider digs burrows in deserts and rainforests of Mexico and Central America to live in, lined with silk. It does not use webs to catch prey but stays on the ground, running into its burrow to hide from danger.
