Reptiles are a group of amniotes that lay amniotic eggs and have scales. They are generally divided into four orders: crocodiles, tuataras, lizards and snakes, and turtles. Reptiles belong to the chordate phylum and most are ectothermic. They have a basic nervous system and sense organs similar to amphibians. Some reptiles like snakes move by slithering while others can walk, swim or glide. Reproduction varies between internal fertilization and egg laying or live birth.
