Miss Johnston Lewis Appleton
Team Roles
In a team its highly important that everyone has a different role, this spreads the load
so that one person isn’t more pressured than any other, not only does it speed up the
process as a whole but it also allows people with knowledge in certain areas to use
that in their role. There are eight commonly known major roles in a team, if a member
can specialise in their given role for all the roles it’s highly advantageous to the team.
Chair (Anthony)
Anthony is the teams co-ordinator who works closely with our teams efforts as well as
effectively managing levels of resources and time management, he acts as the team
leader and they will be the person telling the team what they each have to do. As well
as this the chair has to monitor the team to ensure that this is being met and also that
objectives are being met.
Shaper (Lewis B)
Lewis (B) is the person that decides upon the objectives of our team, even though we
have an overall objective this should be divided into smaller objectives to be met one
at a time, as well as this there should be stretch goals, for example if the objective was
to sell 100,000 units, the objectives may be in multiples of 20,000 with for example
new developments or campaigns being used after each, there may also be a stretch
goal such as 125,000 which may be extra rewarding such as promoting a competition
on their product or introducing a temporary offer or limited edition item. Lewis has to
prioritise the team’s objectives and roles and is there to guide our team in order to
complete these tasks.
Plant (Jack)
Jack is the person that roots the ideas into the team, he is more of a creative person
than everyone else, even though the rest of our team is still able to come up with
ideas, Jack is the person that excels in research to find out what ideas are appropriate,
for example to see if a certain product will fit in a certain market they will need to
investigate if there is a gap for the product.
Monitor-evaluator (Aaron)
Aaron is our investigator of the team, he is very statistical and his role is to focus on
the teams statistics and analyse them, for example if the team had a website one of the
things that can be analysed is the ratio of visitors that actually purchase something,
say for example 10% of visitors purchased something this could be analysed as being
due to dull website colours or non-appealing images. This can therefore be improved.
Aaron is also there to evaluate the progress of the team and discover any potential
problems the team is having or may have if they do a certain thing.
Resource-investigator(Lewis A)
2. Unit 19 M1
Miss Johnston Lewis Appleton
I am the person that is going to be obtaining the resources and will need to contact
outside suppliers to try and get the cheapest offers and deals, I will therefore be useful
for negotiating as it could drive down the costs especially if a large amount of
resources are required and overall can save £1000’s. I will also need to report the
team’s developments to those outside the organisation for example; regular service
users or product buyers can easily be notified by a subscription list which would allow
the team to send out regular newsletters or update notifications, this is a good way to
inform people.
Company Worker (Manny)
Manny will be the one doing the general work set out by the shaper and he will need
to most likely do work that is practical such as filling orders in a shop or move items
around a warehouse, this can vary highly dependent on the teams tasks and objectives.
Manny has been given this role because is loyal to the team and task orientated.
Team worker (Lewis B)
Lewis (B) actually specialises as part of a team as he has previously done team work,
he is able to focus on team based tasks and collaborative objectives. He is also there
to keep the team together and will most likely try to be very enthusiastic. Lewis will
be able to keep communications going within the team.
Finisher (Jamie)
Jamie is the person that adds the finishing touches, simply doing tasks and meeting
objectives that do not fit into any of the other roles, this includes maintaining
momentum by motivating the team to excel and making sure that the team members
feel they are not being alienated, Jamie will also need to ensure that the tasks are
actually completed to a high enough standard.
