1. Personal statement
To begin with I have been interested in media for a large part of my life, since I was a child
I’ve been brought up around people and things that are linked to the media. The inspiration
didn’t really come to me as wanting to do the job as a child but I really enjoyed how David
Attenborough went around the world telling people about the different animals on and
recording them. Later on in my life it came to my attention that I could go on a study a
subject that leads close to what that job requires. Media studies has such a wide range of
jobs and now that I’m older most of them jobs appeal to me, and because I am studying
media now at college, its opened my eyes to media being a big part of my life. I find it
interesting to learn about and is one of the subjects I could say I would put 100% in to. So if I
carried on to learn media at University that would be the best thing I could do to get
anywhere need to jobs that I am aiming for.
For my educational background I studied a course called AIDA which is an award in digital
applications and I did find that pretty hard but it was still interesting. During the course I had
to create my own website and have working links to different parts of my work that I had
done over the course of two years. And before that I studied IT for three years as a core
subject. I have also recently got a job at the local corner shop to get some work experience,
and in this I have gained some new abilities that include, customer service, being punctual
and a basis idea of what it is like to work outside of college. I only do this as a part time job
to keep me occupied and have an income whilst I am still studying. There are many units
that I am enjoying on the media course that I am doing at the moment and one of them is
the radio industry where I’m learning about Ofcom and all the rules and regulations you
need to go through to be part of a radio team, also learning about the history of the radio
industry. I’m also part of a group that does a radio show for the college at lunchtime.
Another unit I am enjoying is the motion graphics and compositing video, and in this a small
group of us has to make a music video for the song of our choice without the aid of our
teacher.
I do have a few good strengths about meand one of them is team work. I get on very well
with most new people I meet and I’m sure in a group work environment I would be a great
aspect. I also got C grades in all my core subjects in high school which includes maths,
English and science.
