The document identifies several areas for improvement at the school. First, building work should be done during breaks instead of school hours to minimize disruption and safety risks. Second, trailing wires and use of extension cords should be reduced, such as installing sockets on the stage instead of cords in the hall. Third, the school needs to improve disabled access by installing lifts and widening doorways to comply with discrimination laws. Fourth, fire extinguishers should be relocated to central areas rather than by doors. Fifth, visitor badges should be more obvious to easily distinguish visitors from students. Sixth, teachers should take the register immediately at the start of lessons to track attendance and identify truancy or missing students. Seventh, more signs with rules should be

What the school could improve on
There is a long range of things that the school needs to improve on;
One of the firstthingsthatthe school can andshouldimprove onisthe buildingworks, usuallythis
takesplace duringthe school hoursbut itwouldbe much more advantagesandpose far lessa riskif
thiswas to be done duringtermbreaks, thiskeepsstudentsoutof harmandallowsthe worksto be
done before the studentscome back.Thisalsomakesiteasiertomanoeuvre aroundaswell.
Anotherthingthe school can improve isthe trailingwiresanduse of extensionleads, these are not
everywhere butthere are some placeswhere thiscaneasilybe reducedsuchasinthe hall where
there are extensionleadstrailingfromthe ceilingandtheycouldinstead justinstallplugsocketson
the stage to preventthis, thiswouldthenpose farlessariskto people tripping.
The school doesnot reallyhave anyformof disabledaccessandalthoughtheydonothave
physicallydisabledstudentstheyshouldatthe leastbe preparedastheycannotturn downa
studentapplicationbecause theyare disabledaccordingtothe DisabilityDiscriminationAct1995.
Thismeansinstallingdisabledaccessliftsandmore ramps,doorwaysalsoneedtobe wide enoughto
accommodate this.
The school couldmake betteruse of placingforfire extinguishers, manyof themare locatedby
doorsrather than the centre of the area whichmay pose twothreats, firstof all theycouldget inthe
wayof people runningoutthe doorfastenoughandtheycouldalsopreventa personinthe centre
havingaccessto them.
The school doesneedtomake additional changestovisitorbadges, itisoftendifficulttotell whoisa
visitorandwhois a student, one waytoeasilyremedythiswouldbe toaskstudentstohave theirID
on themat all timesandto make visitorbadgesmore obvious.Thismeansthatnon-visitorscanbe
more easilyspottedandreported.
The school alsoneedsto fix theirregistryerrors, the school classteachersusuallytake the registerat
varyingtimeswhetherornotitsbecause theyforget,itisimportanttoimmediatelytake the register
as thiswill make itknownif a studentistruantingthe lessonorif a studentisnot in,thisisimportant
for fire situationsasthe registerwill be checked.
The school wouldbe at a higheradvantage if there were more signsplacedaroundthe buildings
such as the buildingrules;thismeansthatstudentscannotuse itas an excuse if theyare caughtas
well asat the same time politelyreminding the studentsof the rulestheyhave tofollow. The signs
do nothave to lookgood butin situationswhereitwouldhelpcatchmore attentionitmaybe
necessary.
The school regularlycarriesoutriskassessmentslookingforscoresof over9, whattheyshoulddois
lookforscores that are alsoclose to 9 but give themalittle lesspriority,if the score isslowlyrisingit
shouldbe addressedbeforeithits9 ratherthan whenitdoes, thisoverall meansthere will be less
risksand the school will be asaferenvironment.
