Andew Marks Agile Business Analytics How A New Generation Bi Is Reducing ...Andrew Marks
One of the challenges many companies have in delivering an adoptable Business Intelligence solution is ensuring that the solution meets the “current” and “future” information needs of the stakeholders. Traditional waterfall implementation methods don’t work in the world of BI. The speed at which the business climate moves and changes these days warrants a rapid and agile deployment approach towards business intelligence solutions. This presentation discusses some of the key aspects of taking an agile deployment strategy towards your organizations BI solution.
True agility is realized when organizations embrace coaching. Changing terms and sending some members off to training is not enough to really change the organizational mindset. This presentation focuses on how to create a mindset of future coaches.
As presented at Mile High Agile 2012 in Denver.
Review and discuss the basic agile practices in the context of two games. The first game will illustrate why small batches are important and how they can help you address project risks sooner. The second game will illustrate how small batches can help give you better information about your project sooner and will demonstrate some of the basic agile practices at work like iterations, continuous flow, manage to done, velocity, retrospectives, etc.

The Economic Value Proposition Matrix® (EVPM) model was initially used to conduct an Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) as a consulting engagement for a Super Independent oil and gas company assessing the CAPEX for a digital oilfield implementation for an old brownfield—circa 2004.
Its development basis is taken from our industry sponsored 2004 study, Roadmap to Enterprise Optimization: A Guide to the Impact of Information Driven Field Operations on the Petroleum Corporation. EVPM well proven and has been in continuous commercial use and upgrade since then.
Let’s take a look at IT agility—with a fresh perspective: through the eyes of a relatively new Java developer. This session dives into how companies are staying competitive by increasing their agility. You may be familiar with traditional SDLC methodology and how many firms are replacing a more rigid/monolithic approach with agile and related iterative methodologies: Scrum, XP, prototyping. An organization can’t just complete a checklist and be “agile.” Some key elements are nonnegotiable; core values and results must be the primary goals. The road to those goals must be adapted to each organization’s own model and culture. Whether you’re a longtime professional, have just joined the field, or are looking for something new, this session may give you thought-provoking perspectives.
Explores underlying principles that make Agile development work, and seeks to uncover where those principles might be in conflict with key assumptions that drive management practices.
The goal is to learn what we in the movement can do to drive positive change in our own organizations as well as in the wider world of software development. After all, there may be challenges with an Agile approach, but falling back to blind adherence to a plan-driven approach is not the answer.
Touches on how to scale Agile above the team level.
#15NTC NTEN Help Desk or Service Desk? (Align Nonprofit Technology)Steve Heye
We all know the traditional meaning behind an IT Help Desk: something breaks, you call, we fix. Moving to an IT Service Desk can add further meaning: we also work with you on the goal. But, with both of these, we still have a problem. IT has to wait for the organization to have a specific request to react to, we become a store where the customer is always right. Well guess what? The customer in this case is not always right, and IT should not be managed in a way that forces it to only fill requests and fix things. We will talk about how to manage a help desk while still allowing IT to be a partner to the organization.
Visualising decisions - Integrating decision making with KanbanDaniel Ploeg
There is often a hidden barrier to flow in all of our work systems - decisions. An organisation's ability to make informed decisions quickly may be the difference between a successful product or project or a failure.
In this session, I will take you through a technique often used for navigating the complex domain - decision mapping - and will demonstrate how this can be used. Building on this, you'll be taken through the process of translating the decision map into items in a kanban system.
Ever wanted to better understand how decisions are made in your organisation, how they interrelate to each other? Do you get the feeling that decisions in your organisation may be slow or getting blocked - these techniques will help you better understand how decisions are made, and how you can change the way they get made to improve the flow of information in your organisation!

Techniques to build, engage and manage your intranet projectRebecca Jackson
Workshop delivered at Ark Intranets and Strategy March 5 2015.
As busy intranet teams with limited time and budget, making improvements, or even rebuilding an intranet can be a daunting prospect. In this workshop Rebecca will take you through a number of techniques which you can do yourself, to help build, manage and engage your staff in your intranet project.
- Overview of user experience and change management
techniques to increase engagement
- Hands on activities to go in-depth into techniques such as card-sorting and personas
Change Lessons Learned - Implementing a Kanban System for Enterprise AgilityShoaib Shaukat
Continuous Improvements is the goal dear to everyone however traditionally governed organisations struggle to achieve meaningful enterprise wide improvement due to cultural and structural constraints. Often top down change initiatives and projects are launched with grand improvement goals without understanding the constraints of the existing system and implications for the wider organisation.
In this case study based presentation I want to share the experience of designing and implementing a Continuous Improvements program at one of the major utility company within Melbourne. This program has disrupted the way people do their work.
Eight business units and 7 IT delivery groups linked to this new system to do their work in a collaborative and transparent manner, thus increasing the trust between business and IT. Within first 4 months of introduction, this program reduced a growing backlog of IT wide system change requests by 70%.
This program is now being operationalised within the organisation while providing many learnings for the management and opening new management possibilities for future.
How do you ensure your SIAM model is fit for purpose, able to deliver once implemented, and is providing the business benefit realisation post deployment? Are your people and process in place? This presentation provides insight into the SIAM SIGS approach and how your business can benefit. The impact of change and not dealing with it is the causal factors of many IT ventures. Here Richard surfaces those issues and the need to address them in a successful SIAM implementation.
Evidence based management – Measuring value to enable improvement and busines...Mia Horrigan
Organisations invest in agile processes, tools, training, and coaching, but how much are they getting back?
Has product delivery improved?
How much happier are users and the business customers?
Are employees empowered and enabled?
Traditional metrics might give you insight into improvements of operational efficiency, but the real conversation is about the value created for your organisation by the improved processes. Without measuring value, the success of any agile initiative is based on nothing more than intuition and assumption.
Evidence-Based Management (EBM) is a framework to help measure, manage, and increase the value derived from product delivery. EBM focuses on improving outcomes, reducing risks, and optimising investments and is an important tool to help leaders put the right measures in place to invest in the right places, make smarter decisions and reduce risk using an iterative and incremental approach. This empirical method alongside the agile principles and values of Scrum enables successful steps of change for the organisation.

For brick and mortar companies, software purchases make up the second largest capital expenditure that the company will assume. In today’s world, software applications run businesses. As such, these decisions are critical to the success of organizations. While a successful purchase may not make a career, a poor decision can negatively impact it. How do you effectively make the decision regarding the purchase of a solution for your business, without creating a fretful situation to loom over you?
