1. Year 2
Hunts Wood Trip
Wednesday 23rd June 2021
Inspire learning, ignite curiosity
2. Firstly a BIG Thank You
We would not be able to arrange an outing like this without
your help. It is very much appreciated!
Arrive at 9.10 (after drop off)
Wait outside front door of school by table and chairs.
At this point you will be given your group list of names, bag
of essential items and any information regarding medical
conditions of children in your group.
3. Ensure you think about your ‘attire’
- It is easy to focus on making sure your child has
the correct clothing and forget that you need to be
comfortable and warm.
- You will need to wear a pair of waterproof
shoes.
- Children will need to wear wellies.
- You will not need to wear a face covering on
our walk but will need to wear a face covering
if you are less than 2m from another person.
4. Make sure that you keep an eye of your group at all
times, periodically counting them and reminding
them of your (and their teacher’s) expectations of
them during the trip, if necessary.
Ensure that you allow your own child to have a
good level of independence during the trip (ie: not
sitting on knee, etc).
5. Mobile phones should NOT be used on the trip.
The only exception to this is if you should need to
contact the Group Leader in an emergency or should you
get separated from the rest of the group.
Number for contacting the Group Leader
is: 07947 935790
Please supply your mobile numbers at the end of the
briefing session so that these can be programmed into
the school mobile phone. These will only be used if
necessary during the trip.
6. Travelling to Hunts Wood
We will be leaving through Big gate and walking along
the alley.
We will cross Seymour Park Road at the end of the alley
and travel along Seymour Park Road to Barnhill Road.
We will turn left up Barnhill Road and follow the road to
the top of Oak Tree Road.
At top of Oak Tree Road, we will cross and follow the
side path parallel to Seymour Plain.
We will follow the path into the woods.
Throughout the journey, please be mindful of stinging
nettles, uneven narrow paths and anything on the path.
There will be roads to cross so we will ask for parent
volunteers to help us with this.
7. On arrival at Hunts Wood
We will stay all together in the woods. On arrival the children will begin
their tree observations, completing their tick sheets (already
distributed) and then move onto their artwork, working in pairs using
mirrors and drawing pencils (to be distributed) to draw what they see in
Nature.
The children will need to stay in their groups to complete their
observation work.
During the visit, the children must be respectful of the environment and
of other people. They should not climb trees or run off. The children
should not pick any plants or flowers, or be walking with big sticks etc.
You will remain with your group of children throughout the morning.
8. Visiting the toilets
We will visit the toilets and wash hands before we leave
school. This is essential as there are no toilet facilities in
the woods
Should a child be desperate to go to the toilet please inform
Mrs Browning or Miss Janes.
You will have hand sanitizer within your bag of essential
items.
