Packing the School Lunch Box
• When children eat well they behave better, are able to listen well
and concentrate for longer. Packing a healthy school lunchbox will
help children to learn to play well and be happy at school.
• The Prep classrooms have fridges, so there is no need for ice bricks
or insulated lunch boxes.
• Munch and Crunch – a piece of fruit or vegetable. Cut up if needed
and send in a separate container to lunch
• Water bottles are packed separately and not refrigerated – freeze
the night before
• We encourage wrapper free lunch boxes
1. Make time to prepare. Have fresh fruit and vegetables, milk and yoghurt,
bread and crackers all bought in advance.
2. Look after the environment. Put sandwiches and other items in reusable
containers. This uses less packaging and creates less rubbish
3. Choose a variety of foods from the 5 food groups
1. Don’t provide too many choices – keep it simple
2. Pack things they like – we are not here to force them to eat
everything in their lunch box – we are here to encourage they eat their
sandwiches and healthy foods first
3. If they don’t like something – please don’t pack it
