The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is a non-governmental organization founded in 1912 by the film industry to classify and censor films shown in the United Kingdom. It began operating on January 1, 1913 and all films it rates receive a certificate detailing references to sex, violence, and language along with age ratings. If a film specifies an age rating, only those over the age may purchase it.

1. BBFC (British Board of Film Classification)
The British Board of Film Classification is a non-governmental
organization, founded by the film industry in 1912 and
responsible for the national classification and censorship of
films within the United Kingdom.
The BBFC was established in 1912 as the British Board of Film
Censors by members of the film industry, who would rather
manage their own censorship than have national or local
government do it for them. It began operating on 1 January
1913.
All films rated by the BBFC receive a certificate,
along with "consumer advice" detailing references
to sex, violence and coarse language. If a certificate
specifies that a film or video game is only suitable
for someone over a certain age, then only those
over that age may buy it.

2. ASA (Advertising Standards Authority)
The Advertising Standards Authority is the UK’s
independent regulator of advertising across all media.
We apply the Advertising Codes, which are written by
the Committees of Advertising Practice. Our work
includes acting on complaints and proactively checking
the media to take action against misleading, harmful or
offensive advertisements.
History:
Since 1961, the ASA has been protecting consumers and
promoting responsible advertising. Along the way we have
worked hard to respond to changes in society and advertising
practice.
There aim is to make sure that all UK advertising, wherever it
appears is legal, decent, honest and truthful and our preferred
approach is to work with, rather than against, advertisers,
agencies and media to achieve this.

3. PEGI (Pan European Game Information)
Pan European Game Information (PEGI) is a European video
game content rating system established to help European
consumers make informed decisions on buying computer
games with logos on games' boxes.
On 30 July 2012, PEGI became the sole system for age
classification of video games in the United Kingdom. As a
result, games no longer have to be rated separately by
the BBFC.
History:
It was launched in spring 2003 and replaced a number of
national age rating systems with a single system now used
throughout most of Europe, in 30 countries.

4. PCC (Press Complaints Commission)
The Press Complaints Commission is currently in a phase of transition; and it will soon be
replaced by a new structure of independent self-regulation for the newspaper and magazine
industries.
The press in the UK has been subject to self-regulation for over sixty years. The self-regulatory era
began with the creation of a voluntary Press Council in 1953, which aimed to maintain high ethical
standards of journalism and to promote press freedom.
The PCC is an independent body which administers the system of self-regulation for the press. It
does so primarily by dealing with complaints, framed within the terms of the Editors' Code of
Practice, about the editorial content of newspapers and magazines and the conduct of
journalists. It can also assist individuals by representing their interests to editors in advance of an
article about them being published.

5. OFCOM (Office of Communications)
The Office of Communications , commonly known as Ofcom, is
the government-approved regulatory and competition
authority for the broadcasting, telecommunications
and postal industries of the United Kingdom.
Ofcom has wide-ranging powers across the television, radio,
telecoms and postal sectors. It has a statutory duty to
represent the interests of citizens and consumers by promoting
competition and protecting the public from harmful or
offensive material.
