2. British Board of Film
Classification (BBFC)
The British board of film classification is non a governmental
organisation and due to this its funded by the film industry. It is
responsible for the national classification and the censorship of
films. This means they give films the age rating they think the film
should get. This is decided on what the film contains and if they
think its suitable for the age range the films targeting the film at. In
some cases it can give games and some videos age ratings under
some circumstances.
3. British Video Association
The british video association was
established in 1980 in order to represent
the intrests of publishers and rights
owners of pre recorded videos
entertainment. Around 6-7,000 dvds are
released every year on dvd and now blue-
ray. They also make dvds and blue ray
available to rent out.
4. Film Distributors Association
The film distributors association was
originally established in London in
1915, and works with individuals and
companies and organisations. The
group normally meets 6 times a years
and disuses only matters in generic
interest to film distributors.
5. Video Standards Council
(VSC)
The video standards council was established
in 1989 and is the standard body for the video
and video games industries and has a code
of practice. This was designed to ensure that
both industries show of duty of care in their
dealings with customers and public generally.
It provides its members a course full of staff
training with age and restricted videos.
6. Office for Communication
(Ofcom)
The office of communication is also known as Ofcom
and is a government approved regulatory and
competition authority for broadcasting. It was
established by the office of communications in 2002
and in 2003 received its full authority. It has a wide
range of powers across television, radios and
telephones.
7. Trading Standards Central
The trading standards central enforce
consumer related legislation. This
legislation is always growing due to the
fact the world and its ways are always
changing.
8. Press Complaints
Commission (PCC)
The Press complaints commission or PCC for
show is an independent company which
administers the system of self regulation for the
press. It does this by dealing with complaints
which is given in the name. It can only deal with
complaints if its framed within the terms of the
editors code of practice, about the editorial
content of newspapers and magazines.
9. Advertising Standards
Authority(ASA).
This is a independent regulator of
advertising across all media. They
apply the advertising codes which are
written by the committees of advertising
practice. There work includes acting on
complaints.
