1. The front cover challenges the forms of the traditional magazine conventions
which helps develop the magazine in which helps the Medias product use. The
front cover brings in the connotations that it is an urban based magazine with a bit
of formality. You can see the clothing in the main image shows an urban feel with
the woolly hat; with also the aspect of the scarf covering up part of the mouth
showing that he does not want to be recognised. The hands in the pockets show
that he is in a relaxed mood, this is connoting an urban feel to the magazine by
showing the youth of today not really caring about what’s happening in the world
today. The main image also shows professionalism by showing the shadow in the
background with the help of the satin affects. This adds a professional aspect to
the front cover.
As you can see at the top of the magazine there is a skyline
showing ‘The hip hop and Grime culture.’ This connotes that this
magazine is largely urban based because hip hop and grime was
created in the streets, which rappers made it more commercial by
rapping about real life story’s or how they feel such as the famous
American rappers back in the 1990’s such as ‘The notorious B.I.G’
and ‘Tupac.’
You then see the main title of the magazine
which is ‘Chillin.’ This connotes that you are
chilling and relaxing when reading a
magazine about this urban genre of music.
As you can see throughout the magazine the
colour scheme are black, red and white
because all 3 of these colours contrast and
go well against each other. As you can see
the main title is showing the black marks
throughout the text with a black outline with
the help of the red in the middle. This helps
the text stand out with the formal font that
shows the red and black which both contrast
against each other to bring out the main
title.
On the left hand side of the front cover you still see
the main colour scheme with the easy to read font
created to show that the magazine is a mega grime
edition which makes the magazine more desirable,
this is because it can be shown as a limited edition
magazine.
On the right hand side of the magazine front
cover you can see the artists being featured
in the magazine. You can see I am still
keeping in with the main colour scheme with
their being a red block, a black outline with
the white impact font showing that the
header is easy to read.
Underneath you can see the names of the different
artists being featured in the Mega Grime Edition of
Chillin. As you can see if you look further down the
page you can see the block has alternated to a black
block with a red outline which still relates back to the
colour scheme. As you can see the cover line shows a
quote then a small headline showing the featured
article. You can see the cover line is in an easy to read
font, this will make it easy for the demographics to
read the headline. The quotes are highlighted in red
to show that it’s not a headline or a body of text.
On the right side of the front cover you can see
the other features of the magazines shown
through the cover line. The main artists shown
on the cover line are highlighted in red to make
it easy for the audience to realise what artists
are being featured. Also if the audience are just
skim reading through the magazine front cover,
they can see the artist’s name which may make
them want to read the magazine about the
certain artist. On the right hand side of the
front cover you can see the website address
which directs you to the main Chillin website.
The magazine shows that the internet is
starting to make an impact on most aspects of
the modern world from shopping to advertising
to promotions.
You can see on the bottom left side of the page that
there is a QR code, Barcode, Publishing logo and the
price of the magazine. The Barcode helps shops with
the organisation and distributing of the magazines,
The QR code directs the audience to the Chillin
website with the help of smart phones such as a
blackberry or/and an iphone. The publishing logo
shows the publishing and distributing company which
is shown on the urban magazine as ‘Stonebridge
Publishing.’
Finally on the bottom right side of the page it shows
parental advisory with also a buzzword. The parental
advisory tells you that you need to look out for any
strong language or anything that is offensive. The
buzzword shows a giveaway which ‘is the best 50 grime
tunes ever cut up for free.’ This will give the audience
an incentive to buy the magazine with a freebie
included.

2. The contents page for Chillin challenges the forms of the traditional magazine conventions
which develop the magazine in which helps the Medias product use. As you can see I have
kept the same font as the front cover page but I just changed the writing used, which is at the
top of the contents page
On the top left side of the contents page you
can see the editor with contact details such
as an e-mail and social networking. These
connote that the internet is being used
widely around the globe compared to the
beginning of the millennium.
The headers of each section are in a white
impact font with a black block with a red
outline. This signals that they are the section
headers which help bring out the font from
the plain white background. The page
numbers shown on the left side are
highlighted in red to show the numbers
more clearly with the single letter P just
indicating that they are the page numbers.
The article names are shown in an impact
font, which is an identical font to the cover
lines on the front cover. The article
headlines are shown in a black font so it is
easy to read against the white background,
also with the red which highlights the artist’s
names such as the features column. The red
highlighted text is also in a larger font which
shows the artist name more clearly.
The first photo is shown as the artist Rans, which is
then linked in with the same page number as the
actual article. This photo connotes a music vibe to the
contents page because it shows glasses which they
show that he dresses to impress. This is showing that
all the artists of today want to dress to show off their
style and to show there riches.
On the right it shows the artist lockdown on the phone,
this connotes that lockdown is talking to other artists
about new beats to create which also relates to the
article.
The picture below shows Squashie on the top of a
metal ship container, this shows dominance as he is
looking down on the camera, this shows a long shot of
the surroundings behind him.
Finally the picture underneath of Ugz is of her in a
model pose with an innocent look on her face. This
relates back to the article with Ugz in is involved in by
the fact that she has finally been signed, which the
first photo shows that this is her first photo shoot of
her new career.

3. The double page spread for Chillin challenges the forms of the
traditional magazine conventions in which help develop the
magazine for the Medias product use. The Headline used is
quick and simple which is what I found out the demographics
prefer.
All the quotes used are
highlighted in red to
show that it was the
artist ‘J’ said the
quotes. The font used
was Myriad pro which
looks like a traditional
print based newspaper
font. The font is in the
colour white because
it stands out from the
dark background.
The background used is a studio background, but we didn’t
have any areas or rooms which had professional quality studio
looking rooms, so this meant that we had to use a different
background that we found.
At the bottom of the page you can see on each side there are the page
numbers and social networking. The page numbers are shown as 40 and 41
because I found that main articles are featured in the middle of the magazines
that I looked at. I found out that the demographic audience are more likely to
remember the social networking addresses if they are left at the bottom next
to the page numbers.

floor as a sorrow after his

2nd photo seeing as he has
his duffle bag full of his
clothes.

The 4th photo shows J on
the phone to other artists
bringing them into his
songs and his movement.
Finally the 5th photo
shows J filming with the
director for his first
commercial video shoot
which is going to be
shown on Channel AKA.
J has finally made it with
the big photo on the
right of the page. J’s
arms crossed shows that
he is confident and that
he wants to get going
with his new path to
success.
The quote at the bottom of this photo relates back to the main body of
text, which shows a quick summary.
The twitter name in the
top right corner of the
page shows J’s twitter
which twitters users can
follow for new videos and
new updates about what is
happening.
