Genre refers to categorizing different styles of creative works such as literature, films, music and art. Some common film genres include comedy, sci-fi, war, action, and horror. Genre is important for both audiences and producers. It allows audiences to understand the type of film they are watching and helps shape their expectations. For producers, understanding genre helps with creative decisions around dialogue, props, casting, and setting to effectively target intended audiences. Some films combine multiple genres in a hybrid style, which can attract broader audiences but risks becoming unrealistic. Subgenres further define categories within broader genres.

· Trace the history of popular sentiments and social issues through the evolution of films inside genres and recognize various social functions of genres.4.1 What Are Movie Genres?
A genre is a type, or category, and genre films are usually easily recognizable as part of a certain genre. This is because they tend to use familiar story formulas, character types, settings, and iconography (visual imagery with symbolic implications), all of which lead viewers to have certain expectations about what the movie will be like before actually watching it. For various reasons, which we shall note, genre films are prime candidates for analysis to reveal significance far deeper than the surface stories. Many genres also have a variety of related subgenres with more narrowly defined formulas and expectations. For example, any film in the horror genre can be expected to produce fear or anxiety in the viewer; some of the many subgenres of horror films include the vampire film, the zombie film, the monster movie, the mad doctor movie, the insane slasher-killer movie, and the psychological horror film, among others.
In Evil Dead II, a freewheeling horror film directed by Sam Raimi, Ash, the protagonist, played by Bruce Campbell, experiences some genuine terror, including (but not limited to) cutting off his own possessed hand with a chainsaw. Audiences and critics alike found it intense and scary. They also found it hilarious. How can a movie that includes the following exchange not be?
Ash (talking to mirror): I'm fine . . . I'm fine . . . (Mirror Ash jumps out of the mirror and grabs Ash.)
Mirror Ash: I don't think so. We just cut up our girlfriend with a chainsaw. Does that sound "fine"?

Little Big Man is a revisionist western. It takes the genre's conventions and reverses them. The Indians are the heroes and General Custer is the villain.
With its violence, gore, and shocks, there is no question that Evil Dead II, considered a cult classic, is a horror movie. With lines like the foregoing, there is also no debating that it's a comedy. So is it a horror film or a comedy? Why can't it be both? Evil Dead II is an example of a movie that crosses genres. The word "genre" comes from the Latin genus, which refers to birth, family, race, or class, and by extension to any sort of categorization. However, as we will see, there is much debate over just what the term genr ...

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
How to Make a Field invisible in Odoo 17Celine George
It is possible to hide or invisible some fields in odoo. Commonly using “invisible” attribute in the field definition to invisible the fields. This slide will show how to make a field invisible in odoo 17.
2. Definition
The term genre is often used to
categorize literature and
speech, but is also used for any
other form of art or utterance. A
genre is also the way to
determine the different styles of
music. Punk, Rock, Metal etc.
Are genres.
3. Examples of film
genres
Comedy – The Hangover, Ted, Superbad
Sci-Fi – Independence Day, Star Trek, Alien
vs. Predator
War – Saving Private Ryan, Pearl Harbour,
Black Hawk Down
Action – Avengers, G.I. Joe, Prince of Persia
Crime – Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, The
Godfather
Horror – The Children, I am Legend, Eden
Lake
4. Why is genre important to
audiences?
Genre is important to an audience overall, as it
releases details on what the film will be like or is
supposed to be like, reaching out to the wanted
and intended audiences. This then allows them to
know what style of film they should be expecting
to see, and how they will probably feel after
watching the film. For example, a romance film
may involve tears and plenty of soppy moments,
compared to a horror film that would involve a lot
more jumping and uncomfortable moments.
5. Why is genre important
to producers?
Genre is important to producers, as they have to
be able to produce a film of the correct genre to
keep the intended audiences focus. This involves
knowing what dialogue to use, for example, an
action movie may have a lot more swearing in it,
compared to a romantic film, what props to use,
for example a sci-fi movie would involve a lot of
space related props, how the set should be
intended to look, for example a horror movie may
be set in a woods, or somewhere secluded, and
overall the right actors for the intended role, as
you may not be expecting to see Dwayne
6. HYBRID
Definition – Combining several different genres of
film into one film.
Examples – Cowboys vs. Aliens (Western+Sci-Fi),
Ted (Live action+Animation) Sightseers
(Adventure+Comedy+Crime)
Positive and negative points about hybrids
Positive – Hybrid films combine 2 genres,
reaching out to two different styles of audience,
raising the viewing of the film.
This keeps the audiences entertained, as new
things are being brought in.
Negative – Some of the films that are being
created have became very far fetched, for
example ‘Gladiators vs. Werewolves’, and
‘Strippers vs. Werewolves’.
7. Sub genres
Crime Movies – Bad Girl, Cops
& Robbers, Detective, Law and
Order, Mysterious, Victim
Kill Bill, The Dark Knight,
Silence of the Lambs, The
Naked City, Se7en,
