The document summarizes audience feedback received on a student's music video project. Key points:
- The audience enjoyed the storyline, narrative, and Grace's performance as the ballerina. Shots using different camera angles fit well and added pace.
- Feedback led to recasting the lead role, "Isabel Beau", twice until settling on Jess, whose performance was an improvement but some felt she did not fit the stereotypical pop star image. Others appreciated her unconventionality.
- Jess's emotions and performance strengthened in upbeat parts of the song, relating to a theory of polysemic meaning, though this was unintentional.
- Outdoor filming locations were tried but did not work
thGAP - BAbyss in Moderno!! Transgenic Human Germline Alternatives ProjectMarc Dusseiller Dusjagr
thGAP - Transgenic Human Germline Alternatives Project, presents an evening of input lectures, discussions and a performative workshop on artistic interventions for future scenarios of human genetic and inheritable modifications.
To begin our lecturers, Marc Dusseiller aka "dusjagr" and Rodrigo Martin Iglesias, will give an overview of their transdisciplinary practices, including the history of hackteria, a global network for sharing knowledge to involve artists in hands-on and Do-It-With-Others (DIWO) working with the lifesciences, and reflections on future scenarios from the 8-bit computer games of the 80ies to current real-world endeavous of genetically modifiying the human species.
We will then follow up with discussions and hands-on experiments on working with embryos, ovums, gametes, genetic materials from code to slime, in a creative and playful workshop setup, where all paticipant can collaborate on artistic interventions into the germline of a post-human future.

1. 3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
From the audience feedback we received continuously throughout the project was that
the audience enjoyed the storyline and also found the narrative easy to understand in the
way that we portrayed it within the music video. They found Grace who played the role of
the ballerina to be well suited to the role and also enjoyed her performance and the way
that we captured it on the DSLR. Using a variety of different shots such as wide-shots,
mid-shots and close-ups. The audience also found that the way in which we edited these
dancing sequences together fit well and also added to the pace of the music video.
However some feedback that we received and we took into consideration
was the actor who played the lead role ‘Isabel Beau’ many agreed that the
performance was not strong enough and didn’t add anything to the music
video, therefore taking this into consideration we re-cast the role twice,
until we had Jess perform the role. Although some of the audience
suggested that she did not quiet fit the stereo-typical ‘pop-star’ her
performance was strong as was an improvement on the previous.
However in contrast to this I also received some feedback outside of my
media class where the audience for this reason liked Jess’s part in the
music video, as because she did not conform to the stereo-typical view of
what a pop star should look like they suggested that she was something
“new” and they was not expecting this. Therefore this made them enjoy
the performance more, because she was different to what they usually
witness.
2. I also received feedback that Jess’s performance got more enjoyable to watch as she got
deeper into the song. It was said that her emotions got stronger and more dramatic
towards the upbeat areas within the song. Although this was not intentional during
filming it relates to Dick Hebdidge Polysemic Meaning.
When presenting one of the drafts to the audience we got varied opinions on some of
the locations, it was suggested that we get some outdoor location incorporated into the
music video. We did try this out filming some of the performance in Danson park
however when incorporating this into the music video we found it did not fit in.
Therefore we reverted back to the filming and this time kept the location simple, using a
plain black room, this intentional so that we could solely focus on the artist in the shots
and the audience would not get distracted by anything else in the frame.
3. When it come to the final edit of the music video the plan was originally to have a mixture
between black and white scenes juxtaposed with some in colour, these were to be included
when the beat of the song increased and only on Isabel Beau’s solo performance, however
when reviewing this I personally decided that it did not look right therefore desaturated these
shots so the music video became continuously black and white, which I felt added a elegant and
classy feel to the music video, which I believe ties in with the connotations of the ballet.
Overall we received positive feedback on our
final piece, they felt it clearly demonstrates the
narrative and furthermore they thoroughly
enjoyed the ending of the music video where
grace’s dancing overlaps Jess singing. However
they did feel that in certain places there should
have been shorter cuts and some of the lip
syncing was out of place, this we have accepted
however was unable to change this due to the
timings of when the final piece had to be
handed in and also we could not find shots
which she preformed these areas better in.
4. I received positive feedback on my digi-pak and poster however I have still kept the original
actor Poppy on my digi-pak and poster. I found that they liked the colour scheme of both
items and also found that it was consistent in with the theme of our music video. When
presenting my first draft of my digi-pak to the audience it was suggested that I should
reposition Poppy and also change the front cover of the CD to make her stand out more, I
took on board these suggestions and made these alterations.
