Media Censorship Affects The News You See
The Article "How Media Censorship Affects The News You See" talks about how the government blocks the information from reaching you. It talks
about the act of censorship and how it can be seen when a person's private information is concealed, graphic details and images are kept hidden,
hiding political bias viewpoints, etc. This is a start to a dystopian society, as news programs have the control and power to change real information
with false facts, leading the public to believe lies. This can be seen in a more extreme manner in the novel "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury on page
32, when Montag is given a rule book containing a brief history of the Firemen in America. He reads, " Established, 1790, to burn English–influenced
book in the Colonies.

Censorship Of Female Nipples On Social Media
Censorship of Female Nipples on Social Media
Censorship has become a controversial topic on social media platforms. This has been clearly exemplified online with the use of hashtags like
#freethenipple. The #freethenipple was spearheaded by activist and filmmaker Lina Esco, which will be explained more thoroughly. The popularity of
these social media website has allowed campaigns like #freethenipple to have worldwide success. In addition to this campaign I will be taking a deeper
look into Courtney Demone, a transgender women who has tested Instagrams censorship policies regarding the female chest and what Instagram
considers female. With these campaigns it is important that social media platforms like Instagram review its policies regarding nudity and the female
nipple.
Before I look into these campaigns it is important to first understand what censorship is. Censorship is when material ... Show more content on

"#FreeTheNipple has failed to show the diverse ways in which people with differing bodies are sexualized, fetishized, exoticized and shamed. It has
also failed to recognize that baring her nipples doesn't mean freedom for every woman," wrote Courtney Demone (Mashable, 2015).
Currently all of the pictures that Demone posted on Instagram revealing her nipple have been removed except for one where she does not refer to
herself as a female. However, the same pictures remain on Facebook.
When Instagram was asked about why Demone pictures were removed they released a statement saying, "they understood the importance of an
individual's personal journey (transitioning) and that they do their best to help people express themselves on their sites. But, for women like Demone
and others like her who have identified themselves as trans women and use the pronoun she, their pictures are being censored" (dna,

Media Censorship in the United States
Censorship has existed for longer than we could ever imagine. One of the first acts of state sponsored censorship occurred in 399 B.C. when
Socrates, was executed for the "supposed common good of the people" (Guarding Public Morality, 2010, p.1). Socrates was a teacher and a
philosopher in ancient Greece. His teaching methods were controversial for the time, and he was charged with corrupting the youth and drawing them
away from the Greek religion. As a result of his actions, Socrates was sentenced to death by drinking a poisonous liquid containing hemlock (Guarding
Public Morality, 2010, p. 1).
As a teacher, Socrates had many students and one of those students, the Greek ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This increase in violence and aggression leads to more crimes being committed by adults. This thinking leads to the theory that if there was more
censorship, there would be less violence on television, and there would be less crimes being committed (Arguments Favoring, 2009, p.1). Those who
are for media censorship are mostly conservatives who feel that violence and vulgarity should not be on the television because a child is likely to
accidently or even purposely click over to that channel. Children's critical thinking skills are not fully developed and they cannot comprehend
information the way that adults do. Essentially, they feel that media censorship is essential in society to protect children from lost moral values
(Arguments Favoring, 2009, p.1). On the other side of the debate, those against censorship of television feel that it is a violation of the Freedom of
Speech which is the first amendment of the United States Constitution (Anti–Censorship, p.1). They argue that "Freedom of Speech is a basic human
right, and that this should not be eroded or compromised through censorship in a nation which likes to call itself free" (Wilson, 2010, p.1). They also
argue that the Freedom of Speech was not put into place to protect only the speech that the majority of people agreed with, rather it was put into place
to protect the speech and opinions of all Americans (Anti–Censorship, p.2). Those against television censorship feel that it is

Censorship Filters The Media Within The World
Does censorship filter the media within the world? Censorship has followed the free expressions of men and women like a shadow throughout history.
Censorship is a way to filter the media in the world by suppressing unacceptable viewings or hearings by not showing, bleeping out, and covering the
distasteful parts. In ancient societies, China for example, censorship was considered a logical tool for regulating the political and moral life of the
population. The term censor can be traced to the office of censor established in Rome i 443 BC. In Rome, in the ancient Greek communities, the
thought of good governance included shaping the character of the people, although, censorship was regarded as a righteous task. In China, the first
censorship law was introduced in 300 AD. Censorship is a healthy way of teaching the world, helps control the influx of information and ideas in
society and compresses the violence within the world.
Though freedom of speech is legal within the United States of America, all things said, shown, or expressed are not always appropriate. In most
cases, inappropriate speech and/or acts lead to illegal acts or urge others to. For example, if someone witnesses a scene, is a part of a scene or hears
about it, most will want to converse about it or take part in it creating chaotic controversy. However, more severe forms have led to people or groups
such as the Ku Klux Klan being denied certain marching permits or the Westboro Baptist Church being sued,

Censorship Of Women In The Media Research Paper
Large breasts have been the ideal standard of female beauty in American society, especially in media culture. Although the biological role of female
breasts is to provide milk while nursing a newborn, their sexual role of attracting mates or just exuding sexual appeal in general is more pronounced,
and usually the bigger they are, the more attractive a female looks. Some examples of society glorifying the voluptuous look include: porn;
advertisements; the Victoria's Secret Bombshell Bra (designed to make your boobs look two sizes larger); production of tighter, body–hugging
clothing and tops with plunging necklines (only looks good if you have something to show); movies/TV shows with the trite clichГ© of comparing the

Issues with the inequality between men walking around shirtless and women walking around shirtless, censorship of female breasts, and the laws of
several states banning breast–feeding in public spurs the FreeTheNipple campaign, a movement with a goal to empower women across the world
and stop unfair censorship of the female anatomy. In my opinion, I can see the feminist cause behind this campaign and how ridiculous it is that
breasts have become taboo in society, however I don't think walking around shirtless to promote the normalcy of breasts will do much of anything
because no matter what breasts will forever be considered sexual and shameful. If a group of shirtless women walked up my block, I wouldn't be
bothered because boobs are boobs, but I know a lot of people who feel uncomfortable and look away, or even worse start ridiculing the women,
because many are brought up like that; at a young age, we are conditioned to think female breasts should be concealed. I think the movement is a great
cause, but in terms of successfully carrying out it's goals, it's

The Importance Of Censorship On Social Media
Censorship On Social Media
Social media should not moderate the comments or points of views from society due to the fact that everyone has the right to express what is on their
mind. The U.S. created the First Amendment which protects the freedom of expression in essence, giving society the ability to state their opinion
without fear of retribution. It is difficult to think of negative, hurtful, and spiteful comments being protected by the freedom of speech. The information
and posts on social media has such a great influence over the population of the world, however it is important to remember that trolls as well as their
comments should be taken lightly yet respected because it is their own opinion. Nonetheless people have become highly sensitive to trolls or any
comments in which they might not agree with. Additionally it seems that trolls have a strong hold in social media yet, who are these trolls? Trolls
make heinous comments on social media and are thrilled to keep anonymity as their profile. People who are behind an electronic screen are not always
the most transparent and credible commentators. Many will argue that censorship is needed in social media as it could prevent excessive negativity
online. Although this may have a case, if people allowed censorship of harsh and hateful believes what else will be censored in the future. Censorship
in social media has the potential to create a deceitful view of society.
The United States protects freedom of speech as long as it does not inflict physical damage to anyone. The first amendment states "Congress shall
make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press"(Stone and Volokh, 2017). There are a few reasons why the government can restrict
freedom of speech which are considered unconstitutional yet comments that are mean and distasteful are not restricted by the government. No
individual should face retribution for sharing and expressing their perspectives. Social media comments have all sorts of outlook some are positive, and
unfortunately others are negative. Not all comments on social media should align to a specific way of thinking. Censorship should not be an option for
disliked comments or unarguable comments.
Trolls are people

Censorship And The Media Of Censorship
Privacy is viewed differently by different people, the same can be said about censorship. Censorship and privacy do not solely revolve around leaks
and personal intrusions from foreign entities. The advent of social media and cell phones have created new avenues for people to communicate and
share information; The internet provides people a new and global way to spread information that can be considered worthy of censorship. Many people
I know argue that censorship should not be commonplace in the media, in social media, or even in the entire Internet. Public's right to privacy and
censorship awareness is a very real thing we should come to realize and analyze. Censorship affects the public in very real ways, it can both aid and
deter the spread of propaganda. People need to consider what type of information is being spread through these outlets. Focused on how people
perceived as such actions with fear and uneasiness, it's fair to note that contrast between censoring and right to freely spread information. It can lead to
an increase in violation claims from those attitudes. If people feel uncertain about the benefits of censorship, then they are more willing to point out the
flaws in it. The public's view towards the subject matter greatly influences on how well the issue is addressed in society. It's not only federal and state
institutions that may participate in censoring what goes on the internet, nor is it just the media putting a spin to spread entertaining

Internet Censorship: Police Vs. Mainstream Media
Through the internet, you can hear about many stories from viewpoints you didn't know existed. There are true utilitarian's out there who want to
create messages that the community would want to receive. For instance, www.copblock.org is a website that presents stories of police officers
wrong doings. While this doesn't prove that all cops are bad, it does give an alternate perspective on police officers. When officers are mentioned on
the news by mainstream media, it is almost always in a positive light. It has been said there are two sides to every story, but both sides aren't always
told. This is the problem with mainstream media today, and is where they fail to uphold to their responsibility. Through suchinternet sites, we can get
the information that the media withholds from us. The problem with this, is that anyone can put an article up on the internet. This is why many people
don't trust the World Wide Web
, and blindly put their trust in mainstream media. What they fail to realize, is that main stream media can also show us
whatever they want. Rather than trusting the programs we grew up watching, we all need to open our eyes and at least entertain the idea that
everything we see is not always relevant, and not always factual. If we did our own research and found our own sources that we trust, we could be

Media Censorship : A Powerful And Controversial Issue...
Media censorship has been both powerful and controversial issue throughout history of mankind. Every countries' citizens have had their lives affected
by the way their government controls and censors what they see in the media. People around the world react to censorship differently due to the
country they live in. Some people were born in a place with little censorship while others were born in a country where the government has complete
control over everything. This can impact the way a person develops as some people will believe everything they hear and others will question
everything they see and hear. Media censorship has been used effectively to control how citizens' view on the world in Nazi Germany and in the

14). The main reason I'm mentioning all the changes in the media is to show how much of an impact technology has on citizens' lives. People in
the 21st century rely on the media for almost all of their information. If the government were to control the information the public views in the
media people would begin to either become completely brainwashed or rebel. As seen in history the German people had become brainwashed under
the control of the Nazi party while many people today fight for freedom of speech when drawing controversial cartoons (of Mohammad). Both
extremes can lead to violence between the government and its citizens. People today can access the media through mobile devices. Since we are
constantly looking down at our phones we are always being exposed to what the government wants us to see. The more we use the media the more
likely we are to be impacted by what it tells us. Media censorship isn't as effective as it used to be due to the creation of social media. Social media
allows everyday citizens to communicate with other people and access various information, even content that the government restricts. This has opened
the door to people discussing things such as government conspiracy theories. You would absolutely never see anything on television (made by the
government) that talks about things the government is hiding. This is the reason why it's so difficult for people to control what the

Essay On Media Censorship
Media is an important part of the life, as people like to know what is happening "behind the door." It considered as a "fourth estate" in the world
because of power it cares, and plays a crucial role in shaping a democracy depriving the public power its privacy like it used to. Just media alone can
control the social movement, its behavior, and mood. There are two major kinds of media: social–responsible media and free press. All kind of media
aspires to be a free and constructive critic. However, the censorship is presented in both of them with a difference that social–responsible media is
mostly controlled by the government and free press mostly has a public censorship. During development, media has undergone many changes. Its

Media was created by Cesar and cared the idea "sticking the far–flung empire together," (Gladstone, 8) and increase strength and reins the ruler, but it

human consciousness with its weaknesses and vices soaking in it negative intention including lies. According to Gladstone, it mostly happens after
England required all kind of media to be approved by "every printed word" before publication. Those who at the "wheel" afraid to lose their power and

The Importance Of Censorship
Censorship Children's innocence must be protected by censorship. The debate on whether censorship is beneficial to society often compiles to a few
main reasons. Subjects like freedom of speech, women's rights, and children's innocence is brought into question when discussing censorship. It is an
important debate because what is censored influences societal beliefs of what is right and wrong. It decides what truths are revealed publicly. Some
people think censorship is beneficial because it supposedly protects children, but it is actually useless because it underestimates children's tolerance,
witholds information, oversexualizes women, and sugarcoats the truth. "Even if it were true that many men would not be affected by such a book,
nevertheless can we confidently say that such a book would not be responsible for rapes," Censorship advocates believe media that is uncensored
encourages unacceptable behavior. According to Storck, censorship would inhibit at least one rapist from actually raping someone. "The notion of
empowerment seems problematic, suggesting as it does a trajectory that moves towards greater empowerment across the life course," Many people
question the idea of female empowerment insisting that women are using it as an excuse to be openly sexual. Exon claims U.S. law will protect kids
from pornography that is easily accessible using their computers and will be against the law for children to participate in sexual conversations on the
internet (175).

Censorship in the Media Essay
The parameters of the term censorship have been changed and manipulated very much over the years. Television and movie ratings have become more
lenient against violence and indiscretion because these things are now seen as entertainment. Is this appropriate for our youth? Should children be
exposed to these images so early on? How does censorship in the media affect adolescents? Children are the future of our society and need to have
some understanding of real world occurrences. Ultimately, censorship can only be determined by the parents. The media cannot filter every bit of
controversial images. What rights does the media have in this situation? How are their First Amendment rights applied here? As an aspiring political

In order to establish a group that censors televisions and movies, the Motion Picture Producers Association (MPAA) was created. Each rating category
has a description of the appropriate age at which to view the film and whether or not a parent's accompaniment is necessary. The Motion Picture
Producers Association assesses a film and gives it a rating of G (general audiences), PG (parental guidance suggested), PG–13 (parents strongly
cautioned), R (restricted), or NC–17 (no one under seventeen admitted). As the film industry has been changing over time, so have the ratings. More
and more parents are having issues with the ratings that some films are issued. "The man behind the ratings, Jack Valenti, president of theMotion
Picture Association of America(MPAA), says the system works just fine. 'Parents use it and trust it, and that's why it's lasted for almost 35 years,'
Valenti says. 'It warns parents in advance about what's in a particular movie, but ultimately, parents are responsible for the behavior and conduct of their
children – not the ratings system' (Hansen 273)."
The main issue in censorship today is responsibility. Who is essentially responsible for properly censoring and controlling

The Censorship Of The Media
Despite Trump's obvious bigotry and objectively harmful policies, he has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the face of the Republican Party in the 2015
elections. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party's nominee, Hillary Clinton, faces a litany of allegations regarding her mishandling of classified
information of an attack on an American embassy in a foreign nation. Many late night television hosts often joke that these two candidates are in a
race that they should win because their opponent is quite obviously a terrible choice. And yet as Americans debate the the merits of these candidates,
many other countries and their politics are disregarded. In a global economy, the ongoings of the world inform American policy and economics. Yet
Americans remain ambivalent because other countries are not debated in the news. The news media implicitly apply filters to their coverage of news
stories to inform the public thereby creating a narrative skewed by political or financial gain to influence their viewers. Because the media is
privatized, it is difficult to recognize this propaganda system. Careful dissection of the time and space dedicated to each story covered by the anchors
between networks and newspapers highlights this discrepancy.

Censorship In The Social Media Age
Censorship that has been in the world and in the United States, since the fifteenth century, has grown sufficiently. Since many years have past
subsequently film, radio, and different platforms of social media have all been censored because more and more technology is not appropriate for kids.
Although many people think that censorship has changed the media platforms, it's actually the other way around. Media platforms have changed
censorship throughout the years by switching up social media, news, government, and privacy concepts.
Social media has shaped censorship over the years by introducing new applications to our phones and computers. One event that has shaped it was
in 2016, when Dan Ilic's video was taken down from a social media site a few second after Mr. Ilic posted it, the video had already been on that same
social media site in 2011 and was not taken down till then. Gourarie wrote this article called "Censorship in the Social Media Age" which explains the
events of Dan Ilic's video. "The video–titled "Is Labiaplasty the new fad?" ... soon after clicking "post" the author received a notice from the social
media site that the video was removed and he was banned from logging in for 24 hours." (Gourarie). This quote from Gourarie supports the claim by
stating that the video was put up, however, then taken down due to censoring people from the title.
Another time the internet web browsers have shaped the way the people see censorship is when the different browsers

abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of
grievances (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). Practicing your right to freedom of speech becomes difficult when obstacles such as place, time, and

Building a sense of direction in life and a personal identity is difficult when society and media creates unrealistic models on how to live life, how to
learn, and how to think. Media manipulation a constantly around us and needs to be treated as a problem. Media Literacy means attaining an
understanding of mass media and how they construct meaning– requires a critical process that takes one through the steps of description, analysis,
interpretation, evaluation, and engagement (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). Media is often thought of in broad terms, but it's known that six
corporations owns 90% of media. The six media companies are The Walt Disney Corporation, Comcast, Viacom, Time Warner, CBS Corporation, and
News–Corp (Lutz,2012). The Telecommunication Act of 1996 substantially changed the rules concerning ownership of the public airwaves because the
FCC eliminated most ownership restrictions on radio (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). The Act in which overhauled the nation's communications
regulations, most regional and long–distance phone companies and cable operators, competed against one another to provide connections to the
Internet. It is amazing and frightening at the same time to know that these six corporations will continue to dominant 90% of everything an American
citizen hears, sees, and considers meaningful. When corporations' turn into an oligopoly, corporations lose the original purpose for news, which is to
inform the public with facts and the act of informing and telling the truth is determined by money. These corporations are more focused on what media

Should Censorship Be Banned From Social Media Platform?
When your favorite celebrity posts a controversial photo, can they get banned from that social media platform? Or how about when you share your
own beliefs on social media, can your content get flagged as inappropriate? The answer to both of these questions is yes, and it is blatant censorship.
Censorship by definition is "the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically
unacceptable, or a threat to security" (Oxford University Press). Censorship regularly imposes certain beliefs on the masses. The practices of
suppressing free speech and hindering public communication is extremely prevalent in American culture and it is even common among other cultures.

YouTube is very well known for their popular media censorship; recently their strongly disliked policies have changed and been enforced. It has
become so unfavorable and faulty that people are losing their main source of revenue that once came from their content on YouTube. Content creator
Philip DeFranco has a very popular channel with over three million subscribers. His channel had over forty of his videos flagged in a very brief time
period, meaning they became demonetized and his source of revenue was jeopardized. This happened because his videos were deemed as
inappropriate because of their sensitive content. "the topics he covers are 'not advertiser friendly'" (Dua). This sparked controversy all over the
YouTube community; a simple and popular channel which contained primarily informative subjects which are also covered by large news media was
demonetized because of its factual and informative yet fragile content. These instances scares content creators and forces them to rebrand themselves
and their content to become more cordial. The media often uses censorship as a form of persuasion. Media is obsessed with how the public reads into
certain things. Sean Redmond observes this concept through the mention of how celebrity and media interacts with the public: "the aim of public
relations is 'the deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between an organization and its publics'"

The Argument Against Instagram's Censorship In The Media
Censorship in Society The First Amendment states that we, as US citizens, have freedom of speech. This amendment also includes freedom of the
press. But there are certain limits. These limits can be seen in such media like television and the radio. Censorship rules are set forth in these forms of
media to protect the eyes of innocent children and those who may be offended. These sorts of media tend to limit vulgar cuss words and nudity.
Included in media censoring are women's nipples, but not the men's.
Lately there hasn't been freedom of speech, or should I say freedom of posting, in the social networking realm. The main source that also fails to keep
abreast on the progressive movement, that is Free The Nipple, and censors the nipple is no other than the popular social networking app we know all
too well, Instagram. Instagram ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Instagram censors the female nipple, they fail to acknowledge women's equality and allow for the perpetuation of over sexualizing women,
which halts progressive times of women's rights. It would be wise for Instagram to look over policies and make a change.
One case of Instagram's censorship is that of Scout Willis. "Scout Willis famously protested Instagram's policy by walking around New York City
topless in May, to highlight the fact that partial female nudity is legal on the street, but not on the photo app" (Kutner 4). Instagram returned Willis's
comments "...with a statement saying "we prohibit all forms of nudity on Instagram because some audiences within our global community are
particularly sensitive to this type of content" (Enright 9). Now one may say that Instagram is a private company and therefore can make policies
accordingly and do as they please. But one also has to look at Instagram's intentions. Instagram is a moneymaker. Recently Facebook bought Instagram
for $715 million. In addition to this huge deal they Instagram is also starting to take

Pros And Cons Of Media Censorship
Media Censorship Will Not Stop the Violence
Violence will be with us forever. We cannot change that. However, we can, and must change the way our children and we relate to it. Leonard Pitts Jr.,
columnist for the Miami Herald, explains it this way:
Despite the way it seems, carnage did not begin at Columbine. To the contrary, human beings have always had a tremendous capacity to inflict pain on
one another, a capacity that reaches far deeper than whatever is on the marquee at the local multiplex. I do not dispute that we live in a violence
–besotted culture that has helped anesthetize children –– all of us, really – to the effects of physical aggression. So yes, it is proper and necessary for us

In an experiment conducted in 1960, Stanford University psychologist Albert Bandura and colleagues showed nursery–school children television clips
of adults abusing a toy clown called a Bobo doll. Then the psychologist watched how the children played in the room with the doll and other
"nonagressive" toys. Children who had seen the aggressive videos were much more likely to kick and beat the clown, especially if they had seen the
adult being rewarded for the behavior. The children continued to act violently even when the abuser had been dressed as a cartoon–like cat (Mestel).
Teenagers are constantly bombarded with a barrage of sex, profanity, and violence. When they turn on the radio they hear about murder and rape. When
they turn on the television they see the same horrible acts being portrayed. Industry representatives say they have worked hard to implement voluntary
rating systems that inform parents of the products' content, but they continue to deny any knowledge of specific marketing of adult–rated products to a
youthful market. However, magazines with huge numbers of under–17 subscribers such as Teen, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, and YM all carry ads

Government, Media, Censorship and Terrorism – Perhaps We Can't Handle the Truth
Government and media influencing each other is a tender ethical situation. Initially, it seems simply appalling that any government would either censor
or use its media as a tool, but considering the possible benefits of such acts makes the issue more complex. What if censorship saves lives? What if
manipulating the media brings a resolution to a conflict?
Wartime especially brings these questions to the forefront. When peoples lives are at stake, often standard rules of morality must either be reconsidered
or suspended. Wartime is also the only situation in which the government could get the support of such practices from a constituency with a... Show

A public outrage would follow such an action.
Yet, the American public is not opposed to such manipulation in other
countries, especially non–Western and third world nations. James Adams
even writes that the US and UK leaked false stories into the Middle East
to build anti–Saddam sentiment. These countries, like Saudi Arabia and
Kuwait, are allies. But, as Adams points out, we can reason this
deception as strategic vision. This practice is very telling of the
sociological phenomenon in America of indirectly viewing the non–western
world as lesser people. It is a complete lack of respect for their
free–thinking, and a measure that Americans would be incensed about if
it was committed towards them.
To a limited extent media manipulation is used even against Americans,
if not by directly doctoring the news that is presented to the country.
When false reports came out of soldiers in Bosnia killing babies, the
President still made references to the incident, although there existed
no evidence to support it. This type of media manipulation is a way of
saying that giving the public full and accurate information is a
hindrance to the war effort, that winning them over with propaganda is
more important to a successful military effort, which may be true.
Censorship is another similar issue. The word itself sends off warning signals, and flashes of fascism. The Western populous tends to oppose

country. Davidson wrote that most experts agree that some correlation between media violence and actual violent acts exists, yet the results are
contradictory and researchers quibble about how the effects are to be measured (271). Moreover, Davidson is not convinced that the media is the sole

youth society. A summary of studies on violence, voiced by Mike Males, stated, "The best evidence shows that rates of murder, school violence, drug
abuse, criminal arrest, violent death and gun fatality among middle– and upper–class teenagers have declined over the last 15 to 30 years" (83). The
problem with media violence may not be exactly what it is perceived as being. As Alisha Basore, a student atColumbine High School, explained, if
media violence created violent people, then everyone in Columbine would have been killers, because a majority of the students had viewed the same
television shows and movies that the murderers had (Valenti 74). Obviously there is not a direct cause and effect relationship between media and actual
violence.
The fact that average television viewers are not likely to become criminally violent because of what they see during violent programming does not
mean that they are immune from any effects from it. Viewers cannot watch 32,000 murders by the time they are eighteen (as is the national average)
and expect to be completely unaffected (Davidson 274). The results of a study in 1996 by the American Medical

Censoring The Censorship Of Media

Censoring In the 21st century the censoring of media should be scarce but in the contrary it's being reinforce by countries. For instance, the act of
censoring gay media hurts all those individuals who are members of the LGBT community and those who wish to learn more about the LGBT
community and its history. It prevents people who wish to find more resources and information that might be able to change their life for the better.
Censoring gay medial is okay when it promotes hatred and violence but it should not be censor when it promotes helpful information. It can also
promote tolerance and acceptance for gay people and in the process it would be fighting hatred and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is not just one country that makes it impossible for gay people to be free and openly gay, there are dozens. It's a real shame to see that many
governments are ignorant enough to believe that imprisonment of gay people will solve the problems their country possesses. When countries
like Cameron have laws that punish people for being gay there is also expected for those countries to censor websites and media the show gay
couples or LGBT resources. In a very similar way is Uganda's Rolling stone newspaper publishes photographs of gay people with "the headline
'Hang Them, They are after Our Kids: Pictures of Top 100 Homos'" (Oates). Having a government that supports discrimination towards gay people
makes it impossible for anyone to be willing to speak out loud to try to stop the injustices toward the LGBT community. The people fear that if they
speak up they would be putting their life at risk. In a society where the persecution of gay people is vastly supported there is not a lot of resources
available for people to understand that gay people are being misrepresented with the wrong convictions. As is also well known in Russia where
"Anti–free–speech laws targeting homosexuals are sweeping Russian cities" (Antonova).Though Russia might not directly punish gay people for being
gay, they are suppressing their rights that allow them to express themselves. With laws that are intended to prevent gay people

Public Media Censorship
Public media is virtually the largest outlet to gain insight and recognize various viewpoints and opinions, Restricting these outlets would directly
affect and practically ridicule the knowledge that everyone has the right to have. Media outlets such as public libraries are an option for the general
public to go learn about the world around them. It offers books advertised to all age groups and view points. The idea of taking certain books off the
shelf is the same as refusing to teach about a certain topic because the teacher doesn't enjoy it. While it may be true that these media outlets may offer
some offensive content, it is important to understand opposing view point; while still disagreeing with them. By learning about multiple opinions on
the same topic, it allows people to have better arguments and find pros and cons of each side and all together come up... Show more content on

While middle–schoolers may run into the library on a hunt to hopefully find their local copy of Fifty Shades Of Grey, they are doing it for a
specific reason; knowledge. Kids of all ages are wanting to go discover topics about the world and by censoring certain things, we are metaphorically
wearing down the idea of wanting to learn and seeking out knowledge. While it is true that not all topics are child friendly, if children are seeking
knowledge, are we really protecting them by repressing their wants and needs? Censorship of public media ultimately doesn't help people. And while it
does not necessarily harm people, by censoring access to topics, we are essentially telling people not to learn about certain things which in the end
may lead to people believing that searching for knowledge is not worth it. In today's society, the access to knowledge is essential. We need to be aware
of as many topic as possible and we will end up stifling the education of today's generation by censoring the media the they are reaching out

But while the larger media corporations may be hesitant to allow these other conceptions of the human to be represented in the mainstream, there is no
such hesitation in fan communities. The fans are not and do not have to be concerned with "securing the well–being of our present ethnoclass"

While this may not be a wholly accurate reflection of how these people are treated in reality, one must remember that fanfiction is not a primarily
political act, but an act of wish fulfillment. This normalization reflects the desire of the "Human" to be treated equally to the "Man." And even though
there has been a significant increase in the representation of the LGBTQ+ community, it is important to note that the majority of these characters still
happen to be white. White people are arguably the most overrepresented group in the media and while some may argue that, at least in the United
States, white people make up the majority of people and are therefore have greater representation, that does not change the fact that people of color
exist and deserve just as much representation as their white counterparts. Also, that statistic is not uniform throughout the U.S. and there have been
several TV shows set in New York City (one of the most culturally in the U.S.), such as Friends and Girls on HBO, that have been criticized for
having improbably all white casts. Most characters on TV shows and movies are white. Most models are white. Most celebrities are white. The
white body is so overrepresented and people of color are so underrepresented that sometimes it seems as if people of color do not even exist at all.

The Dangers Of Censorship In The Media And The Internet
Censorship is the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat
to security. There are good reasons why censorship is used, such as some information might have to be censored for the content it might display and
cause a disturbance. Countries try not abuse the fact they are allowed to do this because they are the ones who create the rules. However, China is
abusing this fact and has been doing it to the point people are fearing what they can post or use on the internet. This issue was brought up because it
has many different types of medians that express why it is important for the safety of free speech. Firstly, the discussion will start off with why is
censorship good and bad. Secondly, it converses the three main types of medians that display this problem are featured articles, videos, and letters.
Censorship is great when it is used properly but can go too far when in the wrong hands.

could come at a price. We would find out information that could cause countries to fight against their own governments or start wars with other

Youtube citizens many of us have spent hours watching videos or just listening to music but In China they have a unique alternative to youtube
Youku and Tudou where most of their videos are more professionally done, and so many companies use it and some consider it a platform similar to

The Importance Of Government Censorship On Social Media
In an age where more and more people are using social media for both personal and professional reasons, there is an increasing amount of government
censorship, as well as self–censorship, evident on widely used social media platforms. After conducting research on this topic, I have discovered the
very fine line between using social networking sites for personal uses versus professional uses. According to scholars, while only 47% of
nonacademics use social media for professional purposes, about 91% of university faculty members use social networking sites in class or for other
professional reasons (Moran, Seaman, & Tinti–Kane, 2011). Professionals, particularly academic professionals, have to keep a squeaky–clean presence
on social media. In this paper, I will discuss my research regarding self–censorship on social media, government intervention and censorship and what
that means for the American principle of free speech, and tell some stories of individuals who have personal experiences with these problems.
Freedom of speech is a basic right in America, granted to citizens by the Frist Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Many countries do
not have laws protecting free speech, and in fact have censorship laws that do the exact opposite. Many Americans as well as other people around
the world use social media as a means of expressing their own views and opinions on topics such as politics, world news, social justice issues, and
simply to express themselves as

The Censorship Of The Media
Privacy in the Media In addition, the media is in an especially complex situation regarding the current concept of privacy regarding the proper use of
technology and due to the numerous ethical issues, that arise from sensationalist media practices. First, the invasion of privacy can be justified by
uncovering vital information that serves public interest to be considered ethical journalistic practice (Plaisance, 2014, p. 187). However, while there is
less ethical merit in providing the public with the information it "wants" to know, it is justifiable under business matters if it is not malicious or

Sensationalism in the news media is not going to subside any time soon due to the high demand for dramatic stories and the ability of the internet to
rapidly spread information around the globe, but journalists need to be held accountable for any unethical breaches of privacy that cause harm to
another person.
Accordingly, the focus sensationalist news has shifted the focus of news coverage onto the individual people instead of on the issues. The focus on
individuals and their dramatic personal stories is a trend that began a few decades ago, and the ratings that such stories receive has only incentivized
journalists to delve deeper into the personal lives of many citizens even if the intrusion is unwelcome (Plaisance, 2014, pp. 188–189). The focus on the
lives of individuals has become apparent in recent political news coverage and the popularity of celebrity tabloids that focus on the lives of
individuals. Unfortunately, this focus on covering the lives of individuals like soap operas has led many major television news networks, the most
popular news platform, to air less difficult to cover subjects that rely on factual information and might not get good ratings (Herther, 2011). As a result,
any individual that becomes involved in a potentially high rating story could have their privacy invaded by the media circus that tends to chase big

Powerful Issues Caused By Media Censorship And The Harm It...
In our modern world, most world leaders tend to argue against media censorship and the suppression of one of our most basic human right, freedom
of expression. We live in a globalized society, that shares news and information in matter of seconds, with newspapers, a blog post, a Facebook
opinion or with a 140–character block called Tweet. If we have the accessibility to these outlets, which most of us do, we can learn about the result
of the presidential election in Peru or we can learn about the dreads of the war in the Middle East. All of these seem so obvious and practical for us,
yet we have not experienced the suffering and struggle the people of China or Cuba have suffered and keep suffering. It is inconceivable for government
leaders to continue enforcing such deterrent regulations that halt the overall progress of that affected society in economic, political and social terms.
Therefore, this essay will examine the powerful issues caused by media censorship and the harm it does on the development of a globalized society.
With all the communication tools we have today, our methods to connect with each other facilitate business, dialogue, negotiation and many more
factors that help us grow as a society. The implementation of such negative and destructive polices like media censorship that leads to the affected
society's seclusion from the world is limiting us from expanding economically. It is imperative to emphasize the harm these policies have on the global
economy.

Media Censorship around the World
Media censorship is not an unusual phenomenon around the world, as it has been disapproved by right groups since ancient times. It had originated in
ancient times when rulers and religious leaders imposed limitation on the press, with an aim to stop them from spreading information which might turn
against them, and the activities conducted by them. Regardless of the differences in geographical location, religion, culture and the tradition, the
motive for censorship has remained the same. The most widely used methods to control media are licensing and enacting laws which effectively
restrict the freedom of press. Countries like Syria, Zimbabwe and Vietnam have laws and regulations that effectively limit the freedom of press and

from any action of the court. (7) For example, in Persatuan Aliran Kesedaran Negara v. Minister of Home Affairs (8), Aliran sued the Minister for
refusing to give permission to produce its own Malay version publication. Ajaib Singh SCJ indicated that the power of minister under s. 12(2) of the
PPPA could not be challenged by the courts. Another example is the case of Liew Ah Kim v. Menteri Hal Ehwal Dalam Negeri(9). Rocket, which is
the Democratic Action Party's newspaper, is given annual licence with a condition that the newspaper can only be viewed by insiders and not for the
public. The minister was criticized on imposing such condition, but the court held that the minister's decision to impose such condition based on his
subjective consideration was ultimate and conclusive, therefore, the court could not interfere into the subject matter. However, the absolute power of
the minister to reject on giving licence is being provoked in the case between Home Affairs Ministry and Malaysiakini. While the Ministry refused to
issue licence to Malaysiakini, the High Court held that the Ministry has made inappropriate and unreasonable decision, and the right to get a permit is
a 'fundamental liberty'. As a result, Malaysiakini is allowed to produce daily press.(10). It

Censorship, Media Manipulation, And Betrayal
In George Orwell's novel, 1984, he incorporates the major themes of censorship, media manipulation, and betrayal. The citizens of Oceania are
constantly bombarded with different forms of propaganda, including the posters stating "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING" and the Party's slogans,
"WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH." Giant telescreens constantly run streams of propaganda in hopes of
making the Party appear superior to the Brotherhood. According to Big Brother, sexual interactions should be kept to a minimum and only occur to
populate and produce more Party supporters. The Party strongly encourages the children of Oceania to join the Junior Spies, an organization that
brainwashes them to report their parents or guardians if they feel they are being disloyal to the Party and Big Brother. Nothing is private in the territory
of Oceania; technological mechanisms, such as small microphones and helicopters acting as drones, are installed throughout to constantly monitor its
members. As media manipulation evolves and the citizens become further brainwashed, individuals have a big decision to make, whether to rebel
against the Party or betray their old ways of life. The people of Oceania cannot express their true thoughts, emotions, and feelings about the Party for
the fear that the Thought Police will catch and turn them in. These negative thoughts obviously exist, but not many individuals are willing to stand up

America Needs Media Censorship
Introduction
In a world in which acts of heinous violence, murder or crude and shocking behavior seem to be a normal occurrence, it may lead one to wonder
what has put society onto this slippery slope. How did this type of behavior come to be so acceptable and in some cases glorifiable? A careful study of
society may lead to multi media as being the main cause in this changing of ideals. The modern world has become desensitized to the acts shown on
television, movies, video games or printed in newspapers and magazines. Censorship must be employed if morals and decency are to be preserved.

Evidence that shows censorship may be positive is explained when we examine what drives delinquent activity. ?To see this, we must take a look at
what is inside the mind of a criminal. Eighty–one percent of criminals rate pornography as their highest sexual interest. This means that a clear
majority of criminals like pornography and find it highly interesting. Most other people probably rank other human beings as their highest sexual
interest.? Further evidence of the relation between pornography and crime is seen when an adult bookstore is closed; the crime rate in the surrounding
areas falls significantly. With this we see that censorship is a helpful idea for America. People don?t realize thatviolence on television or video games
does have effect on them. Take, for example, the video game ?James Bond,? one of the highest selling games ever. This games put you in the eyes
of an assailant and makes killing look like fun, or that its no big deal. Another example is sex on T.V. A boy that has been brought up with never
watching sexual explicate material or being surrounded by people that talk about sexual activities, would be less likely to be as interested in the
practice of sex, as a kid that watches porno all the time, making him less likely to commit a sexual crime. ?A lot of people in the world are against

Censorship Of The Media By Herbert Foerstel
"The British tradition of censoring speech and press to preserve governmental power and dignity stems from the 1275 enactment of De Scandalis
Magnatum, which initially imposed penalties for any false talk about the king and later covered such expression about any government officials"
[Foerstel, 1998: 4]
Censorship of the media – as described by Herbert Foerstel – took shape during the reign of King Edward I. Ever since he made the decision to protect
his government from the press the law has continued to evolve, and while the regulations have since loosened to give the media freedom, the idea
behind the law remains constant. But can censorship be justified in a period, which by law (Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998) offers the right to
freedom of speech and acceptance of opinion and interpretation?
"Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas

Social Media Censorship In America
Social media censorship has a big impact on American society where there's been a lot of control over what someone can post on the internet. The
companies have created strict policies towards what people can post and a lot of the users are not happy. The big problem is that social media
companies have too much power with censoring what people say and read, which is limiting people's freedom of speech and I don't believe that
companies should censor a lot of the things people post in social media unless is something bad that can harm someone. Companies find ways to
censor people's media post either because they believe it can hurt a country's image or they believe others wouldn't like it.

People only think that this mostly happens in the United states but it happens all around the world such as Venezuela, Hungary, Pakistan, Turkey,

access to public information, levied fines and taxes on media companies..." The government had gotten so strict that they would use violence to
those who posted bad things about the country or do something else that could stop the user from posting. In 2014, Venezuela had a problem
where a violent clash between the police and protesters burst, where the protesters were standing up because a crime on a provincial campus had
happened, but it ended up causing a lot of violence. People started posting pictures of dead and wounded people in twitter but twitter had blocked all
the images. This shows that the government is trying to cover up the problems that was occurring in Venezuela because it can hurt how they look as
a country and people can start to think this it is an unsafe place to live in. In the article Censorship in the social media it states, " Diaz had posted to
Facebook a short docudrama by a Venezuelan artist about the conditions of political prisoners.. But she notices soon after uploading the video had
disappeared. She tried to re–upload it, she got a message that " the action was disallowed," but was given no further explanation." Censorship has
gone far to the point that companies are just deleting the post with no explanation. That's a big problem because we need reasons to why they're

or political party and there was no independent source of information. The censorship of media during emergency era shows that how a dictatorial
government can be afraid of this forth estate and can go to any extent to curb its freedom. The era of economic reforms post 1991 saw the boost of both
private print as well as audio–visual media.
An independent foreign observer might be surprised to see that what role does the media plays in our society. The people consider information fed to
them by the media as gospel truth. The politicians, bureaucrats and elites are so afraid of media, that whenever something wrong on part of government
is shown to the people, the

Censorship Filters Media Insight

  • 1. Media Censorship Affects The News You See The Article "How Media Censorship Affects The News You See" talks about how the government blocks the information from reaching you. It talks about the act of censorship and how it can be seen when a person's private information is concealed, graphic details and images are kept hidden, hiding political bias viewpoints, etc. This is a start to a dystopian society, as news programs have the control and power to change real information with false facts, leading the public to believe lies. This can be seen in a more extreme manner in the novel "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury on page 32, when Montag is given a rule book containing a brief history of the Firemen in America. He reads, " Established, 1790, to burn English–influenced book in the Colonies. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Censorship Of Female Nipples On Social Media Censorship of Female Nipples on Social Media Censorship has become a controversial topic on social media platforms. This has been clearly exemplified online with the use of hashtags like #freethenipple. The #freethenipple was spearheaded by activist and filmmaker Lina Esco, which will be explained more thoroughly. The popularity of these social media website has allowed campaigns like #freethenipple to have worldwide success. In addition to this campaign I will be taking a deeper look into Courtney Demone, a transgender women who has tested Instagrams censorship policies regarding the female chest and what Instagram considers female. With these campaigns it is important that social media platforms like Instagram review its policies regarding nudity and the female nipple. Before I look into these campaigns it is important to first understand what censorship is. Censorship is when material ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "#FreeTheNipple has failed to show the diverse ways in which people with differing bodies are sexualized, fetishized, exoticized and shamed. It has also failed to recognize that baring her nipples doesn't mean freedom for every woman," wrote Courtney Demone (Mashable, 2015). Currently all of the pictures that Demone posted on Instagram revealing her nipple have been removed except for one where she does not refer to herself as a female. However, the same pictures remain on Facebook. When Instagram was asked about why Demone pictures were removed they released a statement saying, "they understood the importance of an individual's personal journey (transitioning) and that they do their best to help people express themselves on their sites. But, for women like Demone and others like her who have identified themselves as trans women and use the pronoun she, their pictures are being censored" (dna, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Media Censorship April 30, 2011 Media Censorship in the United States Censorship has existed for longer than we could ever imagine. One of the first acts of state sponsored censorship occurred in 399 B.C. when Socrates, was executed for the "supposed common good of the people" (Guarding Public Morality, 2010, p.1). Socrates was a teacher and a philosopher in ancient Greece. His teaching methods were controversial for the time, and he was charged with corrupting the youth and drawing them away from the Greek religion. As a result of his actions, Socrates was sentenced to death by drinking a poisonous liquid containing hemlock (Guarding Public Morality, 2010, p. 1). As a teacher, Socrates had many students and one of those students, the Greek ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This increase in violence and aggression leads to more crimes being committed by adults. This thinking leads to the theory that if there was more censorship, there would be less violence on television, and there would be less crimes being committed (Arguments Favoring, 2009, p.1). Those who are for media censorship are mostly conservatives who feel that violence and vulgarity should not be on the television because a child is likely to accidently or even purposely click over to that channel. Children's critical thinking skills are not fully developed and they cannot comprehend information the way that adults do. Essentially, they feel that media censorship is essential in society to protect children from lost moral values (Arguments Favoring, 2009, p.1). On the other side of the debate, those against censorship of television feel that it is a violation of the Freedom of Speech which is the first amendment of the United States Constitution (Anti–Censorship, p.1). They argue that "Freedom of Speech is a basic human right, and that this should not be eroded or compromised through censorship in a nation which likes to call itself free" (Wilson, 2010, p.1). They also argue that the Freedom of Speech was not put into place to protect only the speech that the majority of people agreed with, rather it was put into place to protect the speech and opinions of all Americans (Anti–Censorship, p.2). • 4. Censorship Filters The Media Within The World Does censorship filter the media within the world? Censorship has followed the free expressions of men and women like a shadow throughout history. Censorship is a way to filter the media in the world by suppressing unacceptable viewings or hearings by not showing, bleeping out, and covering the distasteful parts. In ancient societies, China for example, censorship was considered a logical tool for regulating the political and moral life of the population. The term censor can be traced to the office of censor established in Rome i 443 BC. In Rome, in the ancient Greek communities, the thought of good governance included shaping the character of the people, although, censorship was regarded as a righteous task. In China, the first censorship law was introduced in 300 AD. Censorship is a healthy way of teaching the world, helps control the influx of information and ideas in society and compresses the violence within the world. Though freedom of speech is legal within the United States of America, all things said, shown, or expressed are not always appropriate. In most cases, inappropriate speech and/or acts lead to illegal acts or urge others to. For example, if someone witnesses a scene, is a part of a scene or hears about it, most will want to converse about it or take part in it creating chaotic controversy. However, more severe forms have led to people or groups such as the Ku Klux Klan being denied certain marching permits or the Westboro Baptist Church being sued, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Censorship Of Women In The Media Research Paper Large breasts have been the ideal standard of female beauty in American society, especially in media culture. Although the biological role of female breasts is to provide milk while nursing a newborn, their sexual role of attracting mates or just exuding sexual appeal in general is more pronounced, and usually the bigger they are, the more attractive a female looks. Some examples of society glorifying the voluptuous look include: porn; advertisements; the Victoria's Secret Bombshell Bra (designed to make your boobs look two sizes larger); production of tighter, body–hugging clothing and tops with plunging necklines (only looks good if you have something to show); movies/TV shows with the trite clichГ© of comparing the flat–chested, timid nerd... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Issues with the inequality between men walking around shirtless and women walking around shirtless, censorship of female breasts, and the laws of several states banning breast–feeding in public spurs the FreeTheNipple campaign, a movement with a goal to empower women across the world and stop unfair censorship of the female anatomy. In my opinion, I can see the feminist cause behind this campaign and how ridiculous it is that breasts have become taboo in society, however I don't think walking around shirtless to promote the normalcy of breasts will do much of anything because no matter what breasts will forever be considered sexual and shameful. If a group of shirtless women walked up my block, I wouldn't be bothered because boobs are boobs, but I know a lot of people who feel uncomfortable and look away, or even worse start ridiculing the women, because many are brought up like that; at a young age, we are conditioned to think female breasts should be concealed. I think the movement is a great cause, but in terms of successfully carrying out it's goals, it's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Importance Of Censorship On Social Media Censorship On Social Media Social media should not moderate the comments or points of views from society due to the fact that everyone has the right to express what is on their mind. The U.S. created the First Amendment which protects the freedom of expression in essence, giving society the ability to state their opinion without fear of retribution. It is difficult to think of negative, hurtful, and spiteful comments being protected by the freedom of speech. The information and posts on social media has such a great influence over the population of the world, however it is important to remember that trolls as well as their comments should be taken lightly yet respected because it is their own opinion. Nonetheless people have become highly sensitive to trolls or any comments in which they might not agree with. Additionally it seems that trolls have a strong hold in social media yet, who are these trolls? Trolls make heinous comments on social media and are thrilled to keep anonymity as their profile. People who are behind an electronic screen are not always the most transparent and credible commentators. Many will argue that censorship is needed in social media as it could prevent excessive negativity online. Although this may have a case, if people allowed censorship of harsh and hateful believes what else will be censored in the future. Censorship in social media has the potential to create a deceitful view of society. The United States protects freedom of speech as long as it does not inflict physical damage to anyone. The first amendment states "Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press"(Stone and Volokh, 2017). There are a few reasons why the government can restrict freedom of speech which are considered unconstitutional yet comments that are mean and distasteful are not restricted by the government. No individual should face retribution for sharing and expressing their perspectives. Social media comments have all sorts of outlook some are positive, and unfortunately others are negative. Not all comments on social media should align to a specific way of thinking. Censorship should not be an option for disliked comments or unarguable comments. Trolls are people ... • 7. Censorship And The Media Of Censorship Privacy is viewed differently by different people, the same can be said about censorship. Censorship and privacy do not solely revolve around leaks and personal intrusions from foreign entities. The advent of social media and cell phones have created new avenues for people to communicate and share information; The internet provides people a new and global way to spread information that can be considered worthy of censorship. Many people I know argue that censorship should not be commonplace in the media, in social media, or even in the entire Internet. Public's right to privacy and censorship awareness is a very real thing we should come to realize and analyze. Censorship affects the public in very real ways, it can both aid and deter the spread of propaganda. People need to consider what type of information is being spread through these outlets. Focused on how people perceived as such actions with fear and uneasiness, it's fair to note that contrast between censoring and right to freely spread information. It can lead to an increase in violation claims from those attitudes. If people feel uncertain about the benefits of censorship, then they are more willing to point out the flaws in it. The public's view towards the subject matter greatly influences on how well the issue is addressed in society. It's not only federal and state institutions that may participate in censoring what goes on the internet, nor is it just the media putting a spin to spread entertaining ... • 8. Internet Censorship: Police Vs. Mainstream Media Through the internet, you can hear about many stories from viewpoints you didn't know existed. There are true utilitarian's out there who want to create messages that the community would want to receive. For instance, www.copblock.org is a website that presents stories of police officers wrong doings. While this doesn't prove that all cops are bad, it does give an alternate perspective on police officers. When officers are mentioned on the news by mainstream media, it is almost always in a positive light. It has been said there are two sides to every story, but both sides aren't always told. This is the problem with mainstream media today, and is where they fail to uphold to their responsibility. Through suchinternet sites, we can get the information that the media withholds from us. The problem with this, is that anyone can put an article up on the internet. This is why many people don't trust the World Wide Web , and blindly put their trust in mainstream media. What they fail to realize, is that main stream media can also show us whatever they want. Rather than trusting the programs we grew up watching, we all need to open our eyes and at least entertain the idea that everything we see is not always relevant, and not always factual. Every countries' citizens have had their lives affected by the way their government controls and censors what they see in the media. People around the world react to censorship differently due to the country they live in. Some people were born in a place with little censorship while others were born in a country where the government has complete control over everything. This can impact the way a person develops as some people will believe everything they hear and others will question everything they see and hear. The main reason I'm mentioning all the changes in the media is to show how much of an impact technology has on citizens' lives. People in the 21st century rely on the media for almost all of their information. If the government were to control the information the public views in the media people would begin to either become completely brainwashed or rebel. As seen in history the German people had become brainwashed under the control of the Nazi party while many people today fight for freedom of speech when drawing controversial cartoons (of Mohammad). Both extremes can lead to violence between the government and its citizens. People today can access the media through mobile devices. Since we are constantly looking down at our phones we are always being exposed to what the government wants us to see. The more we use the media the more likely we are to be impacted by what it tells us. Media censorship isn't as effective as it used to be due to the creation of social media. Social media allows everyday citizens to communicate with other people and access various information, even content that the government restricts. This has opened the door to people discussing things such as government conspiracy theories. You would absolutely never see anything on television (made by the government) that talks about things the government is hiding. It considered as a "fourth estate" in the world because of power it cares, and plays a crucial role in shaping a democracy depriving the public power its privacy like it used to. Just media alone can control the social movement, its behavior, and mood. There are two major kinds of media: social–responsible media and free press. All kind of media aspires to be a free and constructive critic. However, the censorship is presented in both of them with a difference that social–responsible media is mostly controlled by the government and free press mostly has a public censorship. • 11. The Importance Of Censorship Censorship Children's innocence must be protected by censorship. The debate on whether censorship is beneficial to society often compiles to a few main reasons. Subjects like freedom of speech, women's rights, and children's innocence is brought into question when discussing censorship. It is an important debate because what is censored influences societal beliefs of what is right and wrong. It decides what truths are revealed publicly. Some people think censorship is beneficial because it supposedly protects children, but it is actually useless because it underestimates children's tolerance, witholds information, oversexualizes women, and sugarcoats the truth. "Even if it were true that many men would not be affected by such a book, nevertheless can we confidently say that such a book would not be responsible for rapes," Censorship advocates believe media that is uncensored encourages unacceptable behavior. According to Storck, censorship would inhibit at least one rapist from actually raping someone. "The notion of empowerment seems problematic, suggesting as it does a trajectory that moves towards greater empowerment across the life course," Many people question the idea of female empowerment insisting that women are using it as an excuse to be openly sexual. Exon claims U.S. law will protect kids from pornography that is easily accessible using their computers and will be against the law for children to participate in sexual conversations on the internet (175). ... Television and movie ratings have become more lenient against violence and indiscretion because these things are now seen as entertainment. Is this appropriate for our youth? Should children be exposed to these images so early on? How does censorship in the media affect adolescents? Children are the future of our society and need to have some understanding of real world occurrences. Ultimately, censorship can only be determined by the parents. The Motion Picture Producers Association assesses a film and gives it a rating of G (general audiences), PG (parental guidance suggested), PG–13 (parents strongly cautioned), R (restricted), or NC–17 (no one under seventeen admitted). As the film industry has been changing over time, so have the ratings. More and more parents are having issues with the ratings that some films are issued. "The man behind the ratings, Jack Valenti, president of theMotion Picture Association of America(MPAA), says the system works just fine. 'Parents use it and trust it, and that's why it's lasted for almost 35 years,' Valenti says. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party's nominee, Hillary Clinton, faces a litany of allegations regarding her mishandling of classified information of an attack on an American embassy in a foreign nation. Many late night television hosts often joke that these two candidates are in a race that they should win because their opponent is quite obviously a terrible choice. And yet as Americans debate the the merits of these candidates, many other countries and their politics are disregarded. In a global economy, the ongoings of the world inform American policy and economics. Yet Americans remain ambivalent because other countries are not debated in the news. The news media implicitly apply filters to their coverage of news stories to inform the public thereby creating a narrative skewed by political or financial gain to influence their viewers. Because the media is privatized, it is difficult to recognize this propaganda system. Careful dissection of the time and space dedicated to each story covered by the anchors between networks and newspapers highlights this discrepancy. Since many years have past subsequently film, radio, and different platforms of social media have all been censored because more and more technology is not appropriate for kids. Although many people think that censorship has changed the media platforms, it's actually the other way around. Media platforms have changed censorship throughout the years by switching up social media, news, government, and privacy concepts. Social media has shaped censorship over the years by introducing new applications to our phones and computers. One event that has shaped it was in 2016, when Dan Ilic's video was taken down from a social media site a few second after Mr. Ilic posted it, the video had already been on that same social media site in 2011 and was not taken down till then. Gourarie wrote this article called "Censorship in the Social Media Age" which explains the events of Dan Ilic's video. "The video–titled "Is Labiaplasty the new fad?" ... soon after clicking "post" the author received a notice from the social media site that the video was removed and he was banned from logging in for 24 hours." The six media companies are The Walt Disney Corporation, Comcast, Viacom, Time Warner, CBS Corporation, and News–Corp (Lutz,2012). The Telecommunication Act of 1996 substantially changed the rules concerning ownership of the public airwaves because the FCC eliminated most ownership restrictions on radio (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). The problem with media violence may not be exactly what it is perceived as being. The citizens of Oceania are constantly bombarded with different forms of propaganda, including the posters stating "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING" and the Party's slogans, "WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH." Giant telescreens constantly run streams of propaganda in hopes of making the Party appear superior to the Brotherhood. According to Big Brother, sexual interactions should be kept to a minimum and only occur to populate and produce more Party supporters. The Party strongly encourages the children of Oceania to join the Junior Spies, an organization that brainwashes them to report their parents or guardians if they feel they are being disloyal to the Party and Big Brother. Nothing is private in the territory of Oceania; technological mechanisms, such as small microphones and helicopters acting as drones, are installed throughout to constantly monitor its members. As media manipulation evolves and the citizens become further brainwashed, individuals have a big decision to make, whether to rebel against the Party or betray their old ways of life. The people of Oceania cannot express their true thoughts, emotions, and feelings about the Party for the fear that the Thought Police will catch and turn them in. These negative thoughts obviously exist, but not many individuals are willing to stand up for what they believe in and who they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evidence that shows censorship may be positive is explained when we examine what drives delinquent activity. ?To see this, we must take a look at what is inside the mind of a criminal. Eighty–one percent of criminals rate pornography as their highest sexual interest. This means that a clear majority of criminals like pornography and find it highly interesting. Most other people probably rank other human beings as their highest sexual interest.? Further evidence of the relation between pornography and crime is seen when an adult bookstore is closed; the crime rate in the surrounding areas falls significantly. With this we see that censorship is a helpful idea for America. People don?t realize thatviolence on television or video games does have effect on them. Take, for example, the video game ?James Bond,? one of the highest selling games ever. This games put you in the eyes of an assailant and makes killing look like fun, or that its no big deal. Another example is sex on T.V. A boy that has been brought up with never watching sexual explicate material or being surrounded by people that talk about sexual activities, would be less likely to be as interested in the practice of sex, as a kid that watches porno all the time, making him less likely to commit a sexual crime. ?A lot of people in the world are against censorship just for the mere reason they say it?s unconstitutional;? they believe it is taking away ... • 35. Censorship Of The Media By Herbert Foerstel "The British tradition of censoring speech and press to preserve governmental power and dignity stems from the 1275 enactment of De Scandalis Magnatum, which initially imposed penalties for any false talk about the king and later covered such expression about any government officials" [Foerstel, 1998: 4] Censorship of the media – as described by Herbert Foerstel – took shape during the reign of King Edward I. Ever since he made the decision to protect his government from the press the law has continued to evolve, and while the regulations have since loosened to give the media freedom, the idea behind the law remains constant. But can censorship be justified in a period, which by law (Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998) offers the right to freedom of speech and acceptance of opinion and interpretation? "Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority regardless of frontiers." • 38. Social Media Censorship In America Social media censorship has a big impact on American society where there's been a lot of control over what someone can post on the internet. The companies have created strict policies towards what people can post and a lot of the users are not happy. The big problem is that social media companies have too much power with censoring what people say and read, which is limiting people's freedom of speech and I don't believe that companies should censor a lot of the things people post in social media unless is something bad that can harm someone. Companies find ways to censor people's media post either because they believe it can hurt a country's image or they believe others wouldn't like it. When it comes to social media everyone believes they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government had gotten so strict that they would use violence to those who posted bad things about the country or do something else that could stop the user from posting. In 2014, Venezuela had a problem where a violent clash between the police and protesters burst, where the protesters were standing up because a crime on a provincial campus had happened, but it ended up causing a lot of violence. People started posting pictures of dead and wounded people in twitter but twitter had blocked all the images. This shows that the government is trying to cover up the problems that was occurring in Venezuela because it can hurt how they look as a country and people can start to think this it is an unsafe place to live in. In the article Censorship in the social media it states, " Diaz had posted to Facebook a short docudrama by a Venezuelan artist about the conditions of political prisoners.. But she notices soon after uploading the video had disappeared. She tried to re–upload it, she got a message that " the action was disallowed," but was given no further explanation." Censorship has gone far to the point that companies are just deleting the post with no explanation. That's a big problem because we need reasons to why they're getting rid of our post. If the companies are taking away the people's right of speech, meaning they can say whatever they feel like it, then they deserve at least an explanation to why it wasn't ... • 39. Censorship in Media Essay 'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press' (United States Constitution 1789). Throughout the history of the United States of America, the Constitution has always been put to the test. The founders of this country created the first amendment to allow colonists to speak out against the British. In the 17th century, the press was accurate and informative with little competition among journalists. But today in the 21st century the circumstances are different and the stakes are higher. Due to the great level of competition among journalists today, the news is often exaggerated in order to capture a larger viewing audience. ... But, the media can also cloud the public?s judgments, and cause confusion and disillusion as well. From Churchill to Hitler to the former Soviet Union, it is quite clear that radio, television and newspapers have the power to change and make history. A clear example of the power of the media was when Orson Welles? made his famous radio broadcast about ?witnessing? the landing of a spaceship full of Martians. ?America saw that the power of the media could appeal to the public easily and cause mass hysteria? • 40. The Censorship Of Media During Emergency Era The media is considered as fourth estate of any democratic society. We take pride as being the largest democracy in the world. Apart for the fact that we have elected form of government, it is the written constitution which makes us a powerful democracy. The same constitution provides for freedom of speech and expression in its Article 19. This constitutionally guaranteed freedom is the reason behind thriving media in our country, which has earned reputation as being one of the most fearless and influential institution in the world. After Independence, we used to have Doordarshan and All India Radio as source of news along with some independent newspapers. There were foreign broadcasters too but its reach was very limited to common masses. Most of these instruments were considered as instruments of either ideology or political party and there was no independent source of information. The censorship of media during emergency era shows that how a dictatorial government can be afraid of this forth estate and can go to any extent to curb its freedom. The era of economic reforms post 1991 saw the boost of both private print as well as audio–visual media. An independent foreign observer might be surprised to see that what role does the media plays in our society. The people consider information fed to them by the media as gospel truth. The politicians, bureaucrats and elites are so afraid of media, that whenever something wrong on part of government is shown to the people, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
