Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary field that combines mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and control engineering. It focuses on computer-controlled mechanical and electrical technology systems. The evolution of mechatronics involved three phases: introduction of the term, integration of electronics and optics in the 1980s, and development of intelligent computing and information systems in the current phase. Mechatronics education has been integrated at all levels, with students in countries like Japan, Germany, the US, and Brazil conducting interdisciplinary projects and contests involving mechanical and technological innovations.
