This document provides guidance and expectations for analyzing a key scene from the film Crash using film techniques. It begins with definitions of mise en scene, performance, diegetic and non-diegetic sound. It expects students to spend at least 45 minutes on homework, provide a page of analysis for a two minute clip, and analyze four screen grabs. Links to the scene and examples of analyzing performance are provided. Students are asked to consider how various micro elements work together to create meaning and impact the audience. Feedback levels for the extended task are outlined.
