June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
The simplified electron and muon model, Oscillating Spacetime: The Foundation...RitikBhardwaj56
Discover the Simplified Electron and Muon Model: A New Wave-Based Approach to Understanding Particles delves into a groundbreaking theory that presents electrons and muons as rotating soliton waves within oscillating spacetime. Geared towards students, researchers, and science buffs, this book breaks down complex ideas into simple explanations. It covers topics such as electron waves, temporal dynamics, and the implications of this model on particle physics. With clear illustrations and easy-to-follow explanations, readers will gain a new outlook on the universe's fundamental nature.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. Learning Competency
Identify the specialized structures of terrestrial and
aquatic plants (S4LT-IIe-f-9).
At the end of this lesson, the given DepEd learning
competency should be met by the students:
4. Learning Objectives
At the end of this lesson, the learner should be able to
do the following:
● Describe terrestrial plants.
● Differentiate among the types of terrestrial plants.
● Enumerate different habitats of terrestrial plants.
5. What are the
different plant
forms present in
terrestrial
ecosystems?
How do plants
adapt to survive
in this form of
environment?
6. Try it!
Warm-Up
Observe the different types of plant forms (i.e., tree, grass,
and shrub) present in your school and identify the most
dominant ones.
Describing Terrestrial Plants
7. Learn about It
● A forest is a large area of land that is filled with trees.
Natural Habitats of Terrestrial Plants
Tall trees are found in the forest.
8. Learn about It
● A grassland is a habitat that is dominated with grass.
Natural Habitats of Terrestrial Plants
Grasses are abundant in grasslands.
9. Learn about It
● A wetland is an land area that is soaked with water or one
that has some water.
Natural Habitats of Terrestrial Plants
A swamp is an example of a wetland.
10. Learn about It
● A desert is a land area with little rainfall and usually sandy in
nature.
Natural Habitats of Terrestrial Plants
Cacti are usually found in deserts.
11. Learn about It
● Terrestrial plants can either have soft stems or big trunks
that holds their leaves and flowers.
Features of Terrestrial Plants
Some terrestrial plants have soft stems, while tall trees have big trunks.
12. Learn about It
● The leaves of terrestrial plants
are covered with a waxy layer
called the cuticle.
● This layer inhibits too much
water loss in plants.
Features of Terrestrial Plants
Cuticle prevents plants from
drying up.
13. Learn about It
● The water comes out through
the stomata, which are small
pores on the leaves that allow
entry and exit of materials,
particularly gases.
Features of Terrestrial Plants
A stomata is an opening under the
leaves where different materials
enter and exit.
14. Learn about It
● Terrestrial plants have
strong roots that come in
various forms to properly
anchor them into the soil.
Tall trees have big and strong roots
that help them anchor to the soil.
Features of Terrestrial Plants
15. Learn about It
● Trees are tall plants with a large
woody stem called a trunk that
has secondary branches.
● A bark is a protective layer
found in the trunk of trees.
● Their roots are widely branched
and spread in the soil.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
Trunk is the main stem of the tree
which branches to secondary stems
16. Learn about It
● Leaves of trees contain
cuticle to avoid water loss
from too much sunlight
exposure.
● Trees can be flowering or
non-flowering.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
Mango tree is a common example
of a local tree in the Philippines.
17. Learn about It
● Plants that are like trees but
with smaller trunk are called
shrub.
● It can only grow from 1 to 4
meters in height.
● Most shrubs are flowering
plants like santan, gumamela,
dama de noche, and rose.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
Santan is a common example of a
shrub in the Philippines.
18. Learn about It
● Leaves of shrubs can be
evergreen or deciduous.
● A shrub with evergreen
leaves remains green in color
throughout its life, while
deciduous shrubs change
the color of the leaves, and
shed them seasonally.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
A deciduous shrub changes the color
and sheds its leaves seasonally
19. Learn about It
● Herbs are non-woody plants
and are usually cultured for
food and medicinal uses.
● Herbs can be grown in pots in
your own backyard or home.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
Basil, a common kitchen ingredient,
is a common example of a herb.
20. Learn about It
● Annual herbs produce flowers or fruits after the end of their
growing season. The seeds from the flowers or fruits will
develop into a new plant.
● For perennial and biennial herbs, when stems die at the
end of the growing season, other parts of the plant will
survive.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
21. Learn about It
● Plants that twirl on solid
surfaces are called vines.
● They grow as if they are
crawling on a solid surface
because they have weak
stems compared with other
plants.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
A grape plant is an example
of a vine.
22. Learn about It
● Some vines possess thorns and
tendrils.
● Tendrils are modified leaves that
produce sticky pads that allow
them to attach strongly to a solid
surface.
● The climbing ability of vines
allows them to get more sunlight.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
Tendrils give support
to vine plants.
23. Learn about It
● Grasses are also non-woody
plants and have hollow stems
enclosed in the lower part of
the leaf, forming a leaf sheath.
● Unlike other plants, grasses
start their growth at the base or
near the soil.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
Grass on a field
24. Learn about It
● Plants in the desert have modified
and reduced their leaves into
spines.
● They function for protection against
predators and prevents water loss.
● Their stems produce food and store
water, which make the cactus body
fleshy.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
A cactus surrounded
with spines
25. Learn about It
● Mangroves are terrestrial plants
that live in swampy areas in
coastlines with marshy or sticky
soil.
● They have specialized breathing
roots that allow them to live in
this area and help them obtain
oxygen from the atmosphere.
Kinds of Terrestrial Plants
Mangroves in swampy area
within the coastline
26. Key Points
● Plants that live on land are called terrestrial plants or land plants.
● Terrestrial plants have stems or hard trunks, cuticle cover on their
leaves, and strong roots that anchor them to the soil.
● Terrestrial plants vary in forms and sizes. It can be in the form of
trees, shrubs, herbs, vines, mangroves, and succulent plants.
● Terrestrial plants are commonly present in mountains, wetlands,
deserts, and grassland.
27. Check Your Understanding
Identify the type of terrestrial plant described in each
of the following items.
1. tall and straight plant with main trunk
