Culture can be defined as the ways of life of a population that are passed down between generations, including arts, beliefs, manners, dress, language, religion, and rituals. Elements that make up a culture include social organization, language, customs, traditions, religion, arts, forms of government, and economic systems. Major aspects of culture are symbols, language, norms, values, and artifacts. Schein identifies four layers of organizational culture: macro cultures, organizational cultures, subcultures, and microcultures. Western culture originated in Europe and is characterized by values like humanism, egalitarianism, and secularism.
