Math Update Anna Donskoy November 24, 2009
Program Five schools in the District chose Hartcourt, the rest chose enVision District supports enVision only Hartcourt schools need to coordinate assessments, MIGs, and the program on their own.
Known Issues Check the black TE boxes Grade 3 found that Topic 9 was a folder from fourth grade math Fourth grade students books may have a duplicate page or missing pages (have students check their booklets) The materials will be exchanged. E-mail patrick.morrison@pearson.com with the number of students and the description of the materials that need to be replaced.
Known Issues Assessments Teach to the standard and not to the lesson Access the assessments from the web site, but do not keep it on your desk as a guide, or put it in the Lesson Plan Book The grade for the assessment can be put in the grade book, but it should not be the only grade or the decisive grade for the reporting period. Assessments and CST are written by the same company…  Teach the language of the assessment…

Questions The MIGs/pacing plans/assessments were wrong, we had to rush before the test No staff to read through the assessments or the MIGs; maybe check the pacing plans on lausd.corek12.com The lessons in the book were inconsistent/confusing/etc. Address with the rep; the math meeting is with the District Math person… The language of the program is different from the language of the assessment; The assessment is written with the terminology that will be used in CST. Introduce the terminology of the test during the unit? Replacement test questions for fourth grade… Were optional?
Let me demonstrate…

  • #13 I think that MIGS should be used creatively. Do not take it like an OCR TE. Take a standard and teach it using the resources that you have. The lessons are confusing. I think that it should be brought up with the enVision. There will be training during the break. If you are attending it talk about it. I was not given any address where we can complain… CST and the assessment were developed by the same company. Language examples go into instead of divisible, times it instead of multiply.
