Kindergarten Math Strategy Night will be held on March 20, 2014 from 6:00-6:30 PM. The event will introduce key math vocabulary words and strategies for counting, word problems, and comparing shapes. Parents will learn ways to support their child's math learning at home through real-life word problems, number recognition activities in the community, and having their child explain their math reasoning. The event will provide an opportunity for parents to ask questions.

3. Math Strategies
Counting:
Count on from a given number…
We ask the children to count from 27 to 40,
Word Problems:
*There were 3 crabs, some where in the nest, and some where out of
the nest. How many can be in and out of the nest?
*Look at the picture. Come up with 3 subtraction math stories to
describe the pictures.
Comparing 2-D/3-D shapes:
We ask the students to describe likenesses and differences
of shapes using comparison vocabulary…
sides, corners, vertices, faces

4. At Home Strategies
• Use real life word problem conversations with
your child.
• When out in the community ask your child to
recognize numbers and try to count up to the
nearest 10.
• Encourage your child to do “Math Talk” to
explain how they came up with their answers.
