2. Math and Science
Description and Characteristics
Importance
Role in 21st century
3. Math
-Study of numbers,
calculations, and formulas
that challenge and enrich
ones logical thinking.
Science
-Science is a series of
factual information and
theories from observations
and experiments of the
natural world.
4. It is important for every person to learn and study science and math
because without them both people wouldn’t be able to have…
• Medicine
• Vaccines
• Money
• Electricity
• Electronics
• Can’t buy things
• Can’t build homes
5. I would use technology to allow students to research videos of experiments for
science and videos to help students with math problems.
Five tools we learned in class used for math and science:
- YouTube
- Watching a video on how to do a problem, how an equation works, how to balance a
chemical formula, learning how cells duplicate, and much more can help a student learn, especially a visual
learner.
- Web Quest
- Using web quest for a class makes the students find information on their own with guided
help. As a teacher you could send your students to research the planets or to read an article on ways to use
math equations in real life situations. The possibilities are endless.
- Second Life
- This can place the students directly in what they are learning. For example, going in to outer
space or like the example shown in class of learning pi and the Pythagorean theory.
- Digital Imaging (Photoshop)
- Using Photoshop to create something to put in the classroom would be helpful for the
students. For example, making a poster with the different equations used in class would be a good reference
for the students.
- Podcast
- Some students have difficulties with remembering how to do a math problem for homework
after leaving school. Doing a podcast on a problem on whatever was learned in class that day would help the
students remember and help them do their homework.
6. Many students do not like math or science and it’s because they do not know what they are
doing. Teachers are simply just lecturing students the material and then expect them to
understand the homework and then pass a test that is given. The students are not learning
that way and instead of wanting more math and science classes they try to get by without
them. This can all change by using 21st century tools in the classroom.
YouTube is a great example of a tool that can be used to help students learn math and
science.
◦ Students can look up videos on how to do a problem if they get stuck
◦ Teachers can use videos in class
◦ Teachers can even make their own videos for their students.
- Also, when the video is educational and fun at the same time it makes the
students more excited to learn
7. Math and science are subjects that take some practicing to become
proficient. Using the technology we learned in this class for our
classroom can help students who are visual, auditory, and
kinesthetic. It ensures that every child can learn while using
technology which is something students now are born with. Using
technology with education is great!
