Overall SHEQ responsibility, ensuring all legislation is followed, both internal and external,
ensuring all incidents are reported, communicated and all lessons learned.
Overall responsibility for staff behaviour, performance and development, in conjunction with
the HR department.
Working in a heavily unionised environment, ensuring communications and relationships are
open, honest and constructive.
Working with the store managers to ensure the store maximises sales and profit, follows
processes and procedures, controls stock levels and stock turns, provides excellent
customer service in line with the expectations of the business and complies with all required
SHEQ rules and regulations, working towards zero incidents and accidents.
Time management is key in this role given the geographical spread of the 11 stores under
my management.
ACHIEVEMENTS.
• Re focused and re energised the team to pull in the same direction.
• Improved the team’s understanding of sales v margin and the impact this has on the
P&L for the store.
• Re-established good working relations with the union representative to move long
standing issues forward.
• Addressed long standing infrastructure issues (SHEQ related) to make the stores
safer and more appealing to customers.

• Introduced an improved cover provision for the stores and applied more control to it

General Manager – Nottingham
Responsible for the operation based at Nottingham, reporting into BOC LINDE Group senior
management.
Full P&L responsibility for circa £1.5 million revenue, with the expectation of a minimum 30%
margin, full H&S responsibility for the site.
Required to turn around a long standing poor performing depot with cash flow issues and
profit issues.
Staff moral issues and poor performance from the sales force and warehouse departments.
Internal and external networking and team building were key in this role to push the business
in the right direction and try to repair long standing issues at the depot.
ACHIEVEMENTS-:
• Improved margin from 24% - 31% and increased sales marginally.
• Re structured the sales force and warehouse and provided clear KPI’s to drive the
performance.
• 6 of the 15 months I was at Nottingham, I turned a profit or broke even.
• Ensured cash flow was always in a positive by controlling the payments to suppliers
and ensuring all monies were in on time and all debts were chased, plus introduced a
vetting programme for new accounts to ensure risks were kept to a minimum.
• Improved staff morale, managed poor performances out of the business and
introduced new staff that were hungry to succeed.
• Created good relationships with suppliers to ensure maximum discount and
favourable trading terms.

Distribution arm of the largest national coal manufacturing company.
Northern Area Support Manager
Supporting the Area Manager in ensuring the Northern coal depots achieve all KPI’s and
SLA’s as required by the business, whilst remaining within the legalities of road transport
rules and working time directive.
I also assist all 3 Area Managers in any support roles required (stock takes, investigations,
depot cover, disciplinary issues, customer complaints, sales plans, transport etc) and do
project work for the Operations director
Flexibility and time management are key in this role, as is the ability to communicate at all
levels and have a high level of man management and team building capabilities. A can do
approach to tasks in this role is a must as is the ability to work both inside and outside a
framework.
Another key attribute to my role is strong networking skills both internal and external, which is
vital for getting things done, especially when time is a premium.
RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS.
• Reduction of tachograph infringements to the required level by a review of the
knowledge levels of the drivers and then delivering group presentations and check
testing. This was backed up by a robust disciplinary procedure to hit home the
importance of compliance.
• Preparation for and successful FTA audits in all depots.
• Review of Health and Safety General Registers at all Northern depots, explaining to
and guiding the depot managers on how to improve their audit scores. All depots
have improved their scores by 20 – 40%.
• Part of a project team looking at the safest and most effective way to ensure load
safety and security for open sack and pre packed deliveries.
• Turning the transport operation around at the distribution warehouse in Worksop
after a big back log of deliveries both internal and external due to staff issues.
• Sourced, staffed and opened a new depot at Castleford which is now capable of
delivering 100t+ concessionary coal and 30t+ of retail and commercial. All done
within timescale and all deliveries completed through a busy winter period

A multi-billion pound global gases business recently taken over by Linde Gas Germany to
create one of the largest industrial gas providers across the world.
Area Operations Manager - BOC Sureserve Drinks Dispense Gases (Yorkshire and Midlands
region) with P&L, Operations and development responsibility for region generation of almost
£7M revenue and approximately £4.5M contribution to the business. With responsibility for
team managers, training resource, sales team and technical advisors operating as a true
general manager to ensure KPIs and SLAs are achieved based on continuous improvement.
RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS
• Individual contribution of £60k in new business and £20k of direct defence of existing
business in 08 and £50k new, £10k defence in first half of 09 as well as directing and
managing a £7 million region.
• Delivered an on target revenue performance in 06, a 1.2% increase on revenue
budget in 2007 and an on target performance in 2008 in a challenging market place
which has seen a year on year decline of 11%
• Project managed a team to deliver a “Back to Basic’s” guide to Sales and Service
personnel – successful project with a good end product which is to be launched into

role, as was the development of my team in all areas, gained by training, demonstration and
review ( both informal and formal via appraisals).

Highest performing team within the Northern region and always in the top 3 teams in the

Continued account base growth and introduction of 3 new areas in the 4 years I led my team.
