This chapter discusses organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on functionalized oligothiophenes for display and lighting applications. Oligothiophenes have shown remarkable results in terms of device operational stability and lifetime thanks to improvements in molecular engineering and device design. Much research is being carried out on white OLEDs using oligothiophenes to attain lifetimes and brightness that could allow replacing current indoor and outdoor light sources. The discovery of electrophosphorescence has lifted the internal quantum efficiency of OLEDs from 25% to nearly 100% by taking advantage of triplet excitons, contributing to higher device efficiency.
