Examples Of Personification In Into Thin Air
In the story Into Thin Air, the author talks about his experiences about Mountain Everest. He
uses lots of figurative language as he has to talk about how others and himself are feeling. In the
passage The roar of the wind made it impossible to communicate from one tent to the next. In
this godforsaken place. (Krakauer 284), he uses personification because we imagine roar as
loud as a lion and he wants to compare it to the wind that s making loud noise. This passage also
gives us feeling of how he felt from this uproar of sound, he expresses himself by saying in this
godsakenplace (284), this attitude tells us that the wind is not breezing, instead it s more of an
unpleasant sounding gush of air. As a reader, I can say that he is trying... Show more content on

The author uses personification in the passage And the meter was running; even as we reclined
in our tents we were using up precious gas. (284). I think he includes lots of personification
because he loves to compare human characteristics to non living objects since we know how it
physically feels to do human characteristics. In this case, he says the meter is running and when
we think of running, we know how it feels to have our heartbeat feel. Overall, he plays with his
language to make sure that we are bored of the passage and we can feel the setting in the story.
In the next passage, we talk about how he is feeling emotionally. Through this expedition, he
goes through a rough time with getting his energy up and not giving up, the challenging part is
trying to stay with the team. Throughout his expedition, he is having to take care of his
teammates and he wouldn t take care of them for no reason, there was always a reason to take
care of people around him.. He says I felt disconnected from the climbers around me emotionally,
spiritually, physically to a degree I had not experiences on any previous expedition... yet I would
do everything in my power to keep pushing on if he turned around (284), this is an example of
pathos because he uses his heart to express his feeling about his connections with his teammates. In
the actual passage, he talks about his teammates for quite a while which also makes the reader
know that he is really

A Qualitative Analysis of the Types of Goals Athletes Set...
Summary of an Article: A Qualitative Analysis of the Types of Goals Athletes Set in Training and
Competition
Validity and Reliability In order for research to be reliable, other researchers must be able to
perform the same experiment and achieve the same results (Shuttleworth, 2008). The reliability of
this study is unknown at this point. In the past, researchers have used quantitative methods to try to
find out the feelings that athletes have had about goal setting. This survey method has increased
reliability because it has limited the answer options for the survey respondents. However, the
researchers were concerned that the results be generalizable, so they adopted an open ended survey.
Athletes completed an open ended questionnaire about the specific types of goals they set. The
questionnaire was structured around issues of interest in the present research (e.g., goal setting in
training versus competition) and previous findings (e.g., athletes set goals for skill improvement,
confidence enhancement, and for outcomes such as winning) (Munroe Chandler et al., 2004).
Because it was a qualitative study and the investigators coded responses, examining internal
reliability is critical to determine whether or not the study exhibited reliability. The researchers used
a constant comparative method to divide transcripts into text units and compare and regroup them.
Two researchers independently ranked the responses, and they had 97% agreement on their coding,

The Forest Act brought severe hardships for villagers across the country. After the Act, their
everyday practices cutting wood, grazing of cattle, collection of fruits and roots, hunting and

when caught, were at the mercy of the forest guards.
(Q.)
What are the recent developments in forestry?
(3 Marks)

1) The concept of forest management has changed since 1980. It was observed by the government
that implementation of strict forest laws was leading to stealing of timbers and illegal hunting.
2) Forest dwellers were kept away from the implementation procedure of these laws andtherefore, it
generated conflict between the two parties the government and the villagers.

Informative Speech About The PAL Program
Informative Speech
Hi my name is Morgan Delgado and my informative speech is about the PAL program. David
Green said, You need an attitude of service. You re not just serving yourself. You help others to
grow up and you grow with them. Many high school students say they are too busy with
schoolwork and extracurricular activities to find time to volunteer. What if there was a program that
allowed students to help others during the school day? The Peer Assistance and Leadership or PAL

course, and getting volunteer hours. The PAL program provides students with an opportunity to

Each PAL is assigned 3 5 students, called PALees, who are identified by the teacher or counselor
as needing extra support. The elementary or intermediate students are referred for academic
support, behavioral issues, or social issues. It is the PALs job to cater to the need of each student
they are mentoring. The PAL visits each of these students once per week for 30 minutes during
the school day. Each week has a theme that the activity must follow. Some of the weekly themes
include math, reading, crafts, and technology. The PAL plans a new activity for each week to
support the need of each student. Many kids benefit from this program because they have someone
who is a good role model for them as well as someone they can count on.
PALs not only make a difference in the lives of students, but also in the community. PALs
participate in community service project including collecting school supplies, toy drives, and gift
packages for the armed forces. PALs also put on events for special needs students such as APE

Low Voter Turnout In America Essay
Voter turnout drastically decreased in 1968, when the voting age was lowered to 18. America is
ranked extremely low in political participation amongst other industrialized countries, coming in
above only two countries, Russia and Switzerland. As a whole, mass participation is not stressed in
The United States. Texas, ranks below the bottom for voter turnout among other states. Texas
already does not stress mass participation as compared to Midwestern states and New England
states. Texas also has many factors than can contribute to its low voter turnout such as racial
diversity, socioeconomic diversity and political culture.
Voter turnout has decreased on a national level throughout the years, even in presidential elections.

For example, a rational voter will only vote if the personal benefits outweigh the costs. Most
Americans know that the likelihood of one vote determining the outcome of the election is very low,
therefore many people do not see a direct tangible benefit from voting in an election. Studies also
show that the poor, unemployed, less educated and minority population tend to feel alienated
from politics. Unless a candidate is specifically addressing their specific needs, this population
of people do not feel the need to go out and vote. Another factor of low voter turnout is the media
predicting early winners. When media and news outlets predict the winner of a vote before the
polls are even closed, voters may feel discouraged from voting, thinking that their candidate has
already lost and their vote will not make a difference. However, this can also work in the reverse
direction, where people choose to go and vote in order to ensure that the predicted candidate does
not win, as was seen recently in the Michigan primary election where Hillary Clinton was predicted
to win ended up losing to Bernie

The Government Of The United States Government Essay
Madison Cissell
MSU 176 Symposium
Primary: United States Government
Secondary: Tourism
The United States government is the federal government of the America s fifty states, as well as
one capital district, and several other territories. The federal government is composed of three
distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose powers are settled by the U.S.
Constitution in Congress, our President, and the federal courts (including the Supreme Court). The
powers of these branches are defined by acts of Congress, including the creation of the executive
departments and of the courts secondary to the Supreme Court.
The outline of the government of America is laid out in the Constitution. The government was
formed in 1789, making the United States one of the world s first modern national republic. The
United States government is based on the different principles of federalism and republicanism, in
which the power is shared between the federal and state governments. The interpretation and
execution of these principles has been debated ever since the adoption of the Constitution. Some
are in support of extensive federal powers while others argue for a more limited role in relation to
individuals.
One of the theoretical pillars in the United States Constitution is the idea of checks and balances
being found among the powers and responsibilities of the three branches. Congress is the legislative
branch and is bicameral, comprising the House of Representatives and

My Family History
During my excessive research on my family background, I found that I had major complication
learning about my history. The reason for this was because my family was brought to a country
that totally wiped out my ancestor s culture. The only part I understand of my family history is
slavery. We started out as slaves in when first brought to America. We were originally from West
Africa. We lived in places such Nigeria, Congo, and Ghana. This was a time when we owned our
land and freedom. However, around the late 1500s, the western European culture had finally
discovered our deeply rooted heritage. They saw that beautiful land we had nourished, They saw
the love within our community. They saw the resource we provided. They realized the strength
we had as a people. Soon the western Europeans felt that needed to conquer us and our land. The
wanted to prove that we re able to conquer because of the more industrialized military they had.
They forced my people to move to a unformal land that conquered from another culture of people.
So after arrival to the new world, the European immediately forced my ancestors to change their
names. They gave us our names of our slave owners. This resulted in my ancestors to being
someone s property. My ancestors worked day in and day out in the hot sun; picking cotton,
building houses, growing crops and being housemaids. The European s would soon transition into
what we know today as Americans. For the next four hundred years, the Americans

The Economic And Economic Impact Of The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution, occurring primarily from the 1865 the 1900s, is informally defined as
the expeditious development of industry . This was primarily sparked by the development of
electricity and it s ability to power machines that would increase the production rate of products.
The Industrial Revolution aided in, well, you guessed it... industrial and economic development
through the establishment of machinery driven by electricity, the establishment of varying
marketing strategies, and utilization of workers. This period eventually led to a more stable
economy, however, not without 3 separate periods of economic depression and the division of
people by wealth. Politically, big businesses obtained greater power, through varying marketing
strategies, and the minimal intervention of government to enforce or propose regulations.
Industrialists had leverage, as people of the working class were willing to work for any amount of
money. However, labor unions were formed to combat increasing hours and decreasing wages
along with strikes. Post Civil War, the rise of industry induced a power shift from aristocrats to
industrialists promoting capitalism. In regards to the economy the increased output of products
resulted in a greater standard of living as demonstrated by the increase of GDP from 1865 1900
by dollars. Furthermore, because of this unequal division of wealth, a caste system was induced
with the lower class being treated poorly, and labor unions formed

It reveals that the NP s legislation at some point began attacking and oppressing all races apart
from the Afrikaners themselves, but more importantly it was to assure themselves that figures like
Nelson Mandela could not rise in power. For actions such as leaving the country without valid
travel documents punishments were harsh. Nelson Mandela says In apartheid South Africa, the
penalties for these crimes could be as much as ten years in prison. Therefore it effectively
demonstrates how black political activists in South Africa felt by use of specific examples. On the

Dr. Laythe
Power in the New Nation On September 2nd, 1945, World War 2 had finally ended, the allies had
beaten Nazi Germany and Japan to end the war. A Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick
recreates the story of World War 2, Dick recreates the story, in which the United Stateshad lost the
war 20 years ago, and is now occupied with Nazi Germany and Japan. Slavery in the United States
is now once again legal. Power in this new United States with Nazi Germany and Japan, became
more power over the people, power over the environment and power toward one another. One
might say that in that new nation, power is being used toward one another, toward the citizens,
the environment and having people feel powerless. Despite of having being occupied by Nazi
Germany and Japan, both major powers battled back and forth. Both tried to overrule each other in
different ways, some tries were successful others were not. Mr. Tagomi is a high ranking trader in
Japanese San Francisco. During the war, Mr. Tagomi said, I held minor post in District of China...at

Small Talk Essay
Small Talk
We ve all engaged in some sort of small talk either in the office, on campus, at a party, or other
places where you find yourself in the company of others. For some of us, participating in small
talk may come easily, while for others it may be quite difficult. Some individuals may find small
talk to be irritating while others find it a necessity. In this paper I am going to explore what
exactly defines small talk as such; the reasons why people find the need to engage in small talk;
the benefits, and disadvantages of small talk; is there an ethical approach to small talk; and provide
tips on how to participate in small talk without it creating an uncomfortable atmosphere.

Wendy Warman, co author of Loud and Clear: How to Prepare and Deliver Effective Business and

for big success. Warman discusses the importance of small talk in order to improve communication,
boost sales, enhance customer service and increase profits in any organization or industry. These
are all very important benefits, which I think everyone could find use for.
Now that we more thoroughly understand the basic means of small talk and what small talk
actually consists of, we need to be aware of the topics chosen for these conversations. There is an
ethical approach to small talk and ethical judgments need to be made. Very frequently small talk
is shared between individuals whom do not know each other well, therefore there are many
forbidden topics that should be avoided. When people do not know each other well it is not a wise
decision to discuss personal information such as salaries or divorce.
Two main topics that should be avoided are religion and politics. The foundationalist s view
should not be considered here since everyone s justified beliefs on these topics might vary. The
intent of small talk should basically be to get to know someone better, keeping in mind other
peoples feelings. Raised emotion may arise if one of these topics is brought

The Case Of Randy Foye, Melanie Gaydos And The Dasilva Family
Since the moment you are created in the womb, you are being made with your own

the formation of a special person. This was just the case for Randy Foye, Melanie Gaydos, and

Alcoholism And Broken Families In Reservation Blues By...
Throughout the novel Reservation Blues, by Sherman Alexie, there is a recurring theme of
alcoholism and broken families. Each character acts out in their own way in response to what they
have been through. While reading the novel I was absorbed with how Checkers and Thomas
responded with their anger. Thomas acts with peace, whereas Checkers turns to violence and
bitterness. Even though they act out differently, they react alike as they grieve alone, reach out for
attention and acceptance, and reject alcohol. As Checkers alcoholic father abandoned her and
Chess, she uses rebellion and anger to cope with the bitterness she has toward her father. She also
morphs her internal despair and vulnerability into anger as a protective mechanism. This can been
seen in Checker s tough response to Victor. Checkers rose in anger and slapped Victor... Show more

remembered that Checkers...never even looked at the young bucks. Checkers dated Indian men
old enough to be her father (104). Checkers dated these men essentially because they were able
to accept her in a way that she wishes her father had. Checkers and Thomas both pledge to not

emptiness that it bring out. Just like Shen Zhou s Poet on a Mountaintop, that uses lines and white
background to create sense of cloud flowing in the sky. Although, Yuan Jiang uses something that
Shen Zhou did use on his painting, something that I find really magnificent, the use of shadow.
Unlike those lines that define clouds in Poet on a Mountaintop, Yuan Jiang uses something similar

Birth Control And Fertility
Birth Control and Fertility One of the most common misconceptions circling society for years is
how the use of contraceptives (birth control) can affect women s fertility. Birth control is a mixture
of hormones that thicken the cervical mucus to prevent the ovaries from ovulating eggs, as well as
changing the lining of the uterus to make reproduction difficult. For this reason, women use
multiple contraceptive methods to help with hormonal issues, menstrual problems, ovarian
disorders, but the most common use is for the prevention of pregnancy. So how does a medication
that prevents one from getting pregnant not affect fertility, especially for those who utilize it for
years? Ever since the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved contraceptives in 1960, it
has become one of the most thoroughly tested medications. With a few notable exceptions,
immediately after you stop using birth control, your fertility will go right back to what it was
destined to be, says Dr. Paul Blumenthal, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins
University Medical School. By this he means that problems conceiving may be attributed to age,
disorders, and other factors that can lead to infertility, but the contraceptive itself does not affect it
once you stop utilizing it. In fact, studies show that birth control improves fertility by helping cure
ovarian disorders that lead to infertility, as well as an infertility treatment to patients that cannot
conceive. Contrary to

An Example Of A Professional Sports Athlete
Introduction When anyone thinks of business, shopping is most likely at the top of that list, if
there even is a list. A person enters a department store, specialty store or a grocery store, selects an
item or more then proceeds to checkout. A form of currency is exchanged and voilГ, business has
been done. When children are asked what a business person does, the usual reply is that a
business person wears a suit and rides a train to work. While the everyday child and the Average
Joe may be seen as business knowledge novices, they certain have heard many key words in
business formations. An example would be a professional sports athlete. The agent works on
behalf of the athlete and has a contract detailing the work and the compensation received. Joe the
sports fan is well aware of this type relationship but probably doesn t know that Agency is the
business term used. Agency and its application will be covered later. Business also has different
types of organizations, to include partnerships, franchises and corporations. How these entities can
be formed, their types and the powers they hold will be discussed. It is also important in business
to know who is in charge, who runs the business and who can decide what the business will do in
the present and the future. While all these terms and ideas are exciting, the most exciting entity in
business is money. Everyone wants to make lots of money and the right business can help to
achieve that goal. The finances,

There were many philosophers that influenced the Enlightenment and had a huge impact on the
American and French Revolution. They all came together to create a better place for people who

Revolution was John Locke. John Locke was a philosopher who was born in 1632 and died in

he received an outstanding education. He studied in Medicine, and then became a wealthy

Short-Term Premarital Relationships
Running head: SHORT TERM PREMARITAL RELATIONSHIPS

Abstract
Short term premarital relationships are the subject of debate in many families. The idea of a
couple living together without being married is just one of the many problems in relationships
today that end up going through divorce court. Short term relationships do not have the staying
power as one where the couples are getting to know one another for a longer period of time. The
relationship does not have time to manifest into something that will last a lifetime. In this day and
time, short term relationships have a propensity to become a short term life span. This report will ...

Also, I would want to know what they have found out about each other since they have gotten

Man and How to Love a Black Woman points out Living together before marriage is the same as
Nutri Sweet or any other kind of substitute. It doesn t provide the context to really find out the
worth, the values, the character, and commitment of the other person. (Inc., 1998). I believe this
is well said considering that you really do not get to know a person until you have spent some
long quality time with them. Communication cannot be over rated on this issue because without
communication you do not have a relationship. People are much fussier about whom they marry
than whom they cohabitate with, explains Paul Amato, a sociologist at Penn State University
and one of the theory s originators. A lot of people cohabit because it seems like a good idea to
share expenses and have some security and companionship, without a lot of commitment. (Wartik,
2005). Many short term relationships do not last because of the duration of time the couple spent
getting to know one another. I read, Psychologists say the typical infatuation (or lust ) lasts 3 18

The Role Of Autonomy In Sports
Review of Literature A sampling of sport participants was surveyed using a 2x2 achievement goal
framework with the intent of gaining an understanding of coach s support for autonomy and how it
complied with the basic psychological and motivational needs that an athlete might exhibit. Those
motivational needs would be divided into four major categories which are components of two major
halves, those four parts being, mastery avoidance goals, mastery performance goals, performance
approach goals, and performance avoidance goals (Weston, 2011). The investigators used a standard

Bailey And Casey
Question: Bailey and Casey spend a lot of time interacting online. They re Facebook friends and
follow each other on Twitter and Instagram, as well as playing online games together.
Unbeknownst to Casey, though, Bailey is not a human being. Bailey is a computer program.
Given that Bailey is maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an
entire network of online friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we
justified in concluding that Bailey has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind.
Objection 1: Because Bailey is a computer program, she has no mind. The entirety of her
existence has been created in a lab and could easily be stored on a chip. Bailey s entity occupies no

Descartes, a being s mind is vastly different from its matter. In Bailey s case, she has no physical
body but is apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human like emotions using
her artificial mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in the sense that
artificially intelligent software programs are capable of having emotions and complex relationships
with human beings. Such a machine as Samantha in Her could have very well passed the Turing
Test, which measures a machine s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that

The Problem With Pleasure By Laura Frost
In Laura Frost s book, The Problem with Pleasure, she tackles the work of modernist Gertrude

model for approaching Stein s work that takes into account both the appeal and the difficulties

she means in her works, Frost clarifies what s happening with Stein through the other side of a

Buttons itself, but she tries to define Stein s purpose for writing the way she does by analyzing
the relationship Stein has with her readers. Using this tactic instead of just simply telling her
audience what Stein means when she writes things such as, A light white, a disgrace, an ink spot,
a rosy charm (Stein 13), is a way to help her readers understand where authors, such as Stein, are
coming from. So in helping Stein s frustrated readers understand her work, Frost does three main
things: she shows the readers that they are not alone in their sea of frustration, she clarifies what
Stein is doing when she uses certain words or repetitions, and she explains where the readers stand
according to Stein. One way to appease someone in any kind of frustrating situation is to assure
them that they are not alone, and

The Case Of Korematsu V. US
KOREMATSU v U.S.
323 U.S. 214 (1944)
Perhaps, according to Bernard Schwartz, the greatest failure of American law during World War
II may be illustrated by the case of Fred Toyosaburo Korematsu. As graphically described in 1944
by a member of the bench, his case is one that is unique in our system:
Korematsu was born on our soil, of parents born in Japan. The Constitution makes him a citizen of
the United States by nativity and a citizen of California by residence. No claim is made that he is
not loyal to this country. There is no suggestion that apart from the matter involved here he is not
law abiding and well disposed. Korematsu, however, has been convicted of an act not commonly a
crime. It consists me rely of being present in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, regardless of the true nature of the assembly and relocation centers, we are dealing
specifically with nothing but the exclusion order. To bring in the issue of racial prejudice, without
reference to the real military dangers which existed, merely confuses the issue.
Korematsu was not excluded from the Military Area because of hostility to him or his race. He
was excluded because we are at war with the Japanese Empire . . . The military urgency of the
situation required that all citizens of Japanese ancestry be segregated from the West Coast
temporarily. Congress put their confidence in our military leaders and decided that they should
have the power to carry out the necessary measures. There was evidence of disloyalty on the part
of some so the military authorities felt that the need for action was great. The fact that we can look
back and see things more calmly does not allow us to say that at the time these actions were
unjustified.21
In dissenting Justice Owen Roberts felt the facts presented exhibited a clear violation of
Constitutional rights. It is he stated not a case of keeping people off the streets at night, nor a
case of temporary exclusion from an area for safety reasons . . . It is the case of convicting a
citizen as a punishment to not going into imprisonment in a concentration camp. In addition, if a
citizen were forced to obey two laws and obedience

The Theme Of Education In The Lesson By Toni Bambara
In regard to the topic of privilege, the short story The Lesson by Toni Bambara stresses that
education is a means to overcome poverty. This thematic statement is furthered constantly in the
text by literary elements such as setting, characterization and point of view. First, is the
characterization of Miss Moore. Throughout the story, Miss Moore demonstrates an interesting
comparison to the children. In many ways, she provides a contrast to them, which is shown
immediately in her introduction, ...this lady moved on our block with nappy hair, and proper
speech, and no makeup. And quite naturally, we laughed at her... Miss Moore was her name. The
only woman on the block with no first name . Furthermore, Miss Moore s obvious dedication
and value for education is somewhat unaligned with the children s own views about education.
Nonetheless, she aims to use the children s disadvantaged lives in order to prove to them the
value of education, which remains a central theme throughout the story. However, she is able to
accomplish this because of a few key commonalities between herself and the children. They do,
after all live in the same neighborhood, and, more poignantly, both face challenges associated
with being black in America. This point brings us to the next major literary element of the story:
setting. Published in 1972, it can be inferred that The Lesson takes place in this same era. The
1970 s provided a key area of public and societal reform after the American Civil

Pyramids greatness is beyond comprehension. The ancients who built the pyramids in Egypt were
the greatest architects to ever live. Their very precise designs while using primitive tools is superb
to what we see today. They built this monu ments for the pharaohs that ruled over them. The
creation of the pyramids is incredible. Choosing the location site is the most important part of

Some will show objects for Egyptian mythology, including the Sphinx. We do not know if these

them survive as long as they did. While only a few places had exposed rocks, many places had a
soft layer of sandstone that was covered up by different types of limestone, which the ancients
used for building. While in Egypt, the Te thys Sea uncovered what became a great deposit of
limestone and sandstone, used to build structures. This process made stone spilt horizontally by

Bull Tattoo Culture
Bull tattoos are symbolic of masculinity as far as the Samoans are concerned. Samoa s rich history
and cultural diversity has ensured that the art of tattooing, first introduced more than two thousand
years ago in Samoa, has burgeoned into a global movement! Tatau, the Samoan word for tattoo,
portrays correctness and workmanlike traits. These two traits have led to the concept of tattoos
being masculine, and bull tattoos, more so! Apart of its rich cultural magnificence, why should one
give attention to the various vagaries of the Samoans? And what do they have to do with the
concept of bull tattoos?
Did you know that one of the most famous wrestlers of our times, Dwayne Johnson alias The
Rock, is a Samoan who can trace his ancestry back to the Polynesian island of Samoa? The Rock
has single handedly raised awareness of the bull tattoo, with his impressively built body sporting
the Rock Brahma Bull Tattoo. Any questions about his masculinity? The bull tattoo is an image of

The Role Of An Island In E. Lockhart s We Were Lias
In We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, the setting of an island is crucial to the story, both in a
symbolic sense and logistically. As Cadence struggles to regain her memory and discover her
family s secrets, the island plays an important role in her story. One way the island does this is by
showing the isolation of the familyfrom the outside world. In a book, islands often represent
seclusion. Islands are surrounded by water and thus disconnected from outside civilization, just as
the Sinclairs are. Cadence comes from a very privileged family, a family with very little
perspective. The island embodies the family s unawareness of the issues in the world. Another way
in which the setting adds meaning to the story is how only the surface of an island

Supernatural Elements In Macbeth
It is not often that Shakespeare coming alive on the big screen makes it any better, but Justin
Kurzel managed in Macbeth (2015) to both be true to the classic and contribute with his own
modern twist, both technically and plotwise.
Shakespeare can be interpreted in many different ways. Justin Krezel has chosen a very modern
interpretation, which tries to make Macbeth s actions more clearly understood by the viewer, by
introducing the idea of Macbeth having post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as a product of
many wars and a lost child.
The story is about the tragic hero Macbeth who succumbs to his ambition and desire. The plot is

colours are cold and the weather is foggy. Later when Macduff s soldiers walk in, the fog turns

Spread Of Islam Dbq Essay
In the 7th and 8th centuries, Islam spread from its beginnings in Arabia to cover the entire Middle
East and parts of Africa, Asia, and Europe. As (Document 8) shows, by the year 750, Islam
stretched from Eastern Persia in the Middle East, all the way to the westernmost edges of Spain and
North Africa, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Islamexpanded so rapidly because of its techniques on
conquering unstable areas and converting people to Islam, preventing setbacks and obstructions.
Islam had three main reasons for its eminent prosperity. The way that Muslims treated the
conquered people allowed for peace throughout the empire. Tolerance, combined with the military
power, a disciplined army, and an overall appealing religion of Islam, provided the template that
allowed the empire to expand to encompass an enormous amount of area. The Muslim army was

This paper will explore research results done through the internet and through published books on
the background of the cult group Aum Shinrikyo, now known as the group Aleph, and several other
Sarin gas attacks, to include the terrorist attack on the Tokyo subway on 20 March 1995. There is
a lot of speculation and questions surrounding this cult group, which will be discussed later, who

The articles focus on the beginnings of the group as a peaceful yoga group and lead up to the most
recent events with the chemical attacks of the Tokyo subway systems. Shoko Asahara, who was
born Chizuo Matsumoto, during his stay in India in 1986, while he was on various religious
retreats in the Himalayan Mountains, claimed to have found enlightenment and upon his return to
Japan founded the group Aum Shinrikyo in 1987. The group started out with a small following
from the yoga studio, Aum Shinsen no kai, he and his wife, Kazuko, owned and operated.
Eventually word starting spreading about his so called teachings of the supreme truth (World
Religions and Spirituality Project VCU, Jackie Fowler, 2001). Asahara claimed that he had the
power to read minds and because of his enlightenment, claimed to have visions or prophesies, as he
would call them, about future events.
Asahara started preaching sermons about how his visions showed him that the world would end by
the turn of the 21st century and that the only survivors would be Aum Shinrikyo members
themselves. The group was so obsessed with Armageddon that it went so far as to try to make it
happen themselves.
In March 1993, Asahara gave orders to start production of Sarin gas

How Plants Grow Research Paper
Plants have many roles to play. Plants make food and oxygen, they provide shelter for animals,
and they make and preserve soil, and provide useful products for humans. Plants are the only
organism that is able to convert light energy from the sun into food. This process is called
photosynthesis. The food that we eat is produced by plants. Humans need oxygento live. This
oxygen comes from plants. Oxygen is produced when plants make food. Animals often use plants
for their shelter and their food source. Plants roots help hold the soil together and also help make
soil. Plants help humans more than just the oxygen they produce. They also produce food, fibers,
medicines, and energy. Animals and humans depend greatly on the roles of plants. (1)... Show more

First off, the temperature needs to be right. If it is too high or too low it will result in abdominal
development. Flowers and vegetables that grow in different seasons, require a different
temperature. Warm season vegetables and flowers grow best in 60o F, 75o F, and 80o F. Cool
season vegetables and flowers grow best in 50o F and 70o F. Plants require large amounts of
sunlight to grow. Indoor light often does not provide enough intensity. During the hot summer
months, plants need at least one half gallon of water each day. If plants do not receive enough
water each day, their roots will dry out and they will die. Just like humans, plants also need oxygen
to survive. They use oxygen for respiration to carry out their functions. Plants absorb minerals
through their roots. They need these minerals to survive. Some of the specific minerals they need is
soil, fertilizer, manure, compost, fertilizer salts. Finally, plants need support. Their basic support is
soil that surrounds their roots. They also have hydroponically supports that include, strings or stakes.

Nurse Personal Statement
I am enthusiastic about making a change to people s lives. Nursing is an occupation that
accomplishes this determination. Having been part of a big family of nine people I have
always learnt to assist others and to do whatever I can. My inspiration to become a nurse was my
mother since she was able to look after and care for a big family of nine. She has always been an
inspiration to me, as she looks after my disabled sister, looking after my sister is very rewarding
and challenging, but a challenge my mum deals with immaculately. In addition to this my baby
brother has been diagnosed with Down syndrome, my mother takes immense care of both of my
siblings and nurses them on a daily basis. Her guidance and experiences as a mother are an
inspiration. I personally consider Nursing as a profession that I would surpass at since I enjoy
dealing with individuals, and sympathizing with their difficulties. I believe I am extremely hard
working, ambitious, and empathetic. I consider these character qualities vital to meet the
requirements of nursing. My A level studies have fed into my career choice in an interesting way.
Business has taught me different skills and requirements that are needed for this degree. For
instance I have gained communication skills from my course which I can use as a nursewhen
dealing with patients and co workers. Also I have had to work in teams where I was responsible

Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory Of Development
Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory of Development Erik Erikson, a German psychologist of the
early 1900s, is most known for his theory on psychosocial development in humans. He was
heavily influenced by his work with Anna Freud and her father, Sigmund Freud. However, in
his research, he put emphasis on the cultural and social impact on identity development and
studying the ego, which he believed developed with successful crisis resolving throughout life (
Erikson s Stages , 2007). He proposed the life long model of development, consisting of eight
stages. Erikson assumes that in every stage of development, there is a crisis that the individual
must overcome despite the conflict of their psychological needs and the needs of society
(McLeod, 2008, В¶9). With achievement of the basic virtue associated with each stage, the
individual can move forward with their development. The conflict between the ego and societal
experiences, Erikson coined as an identity crisis ( Identity Formation , 2015, В¶2) The ultimate
idea with the stages of development is that these struggles must be overcome by individuals in
order to find their sense of identity and self knowledge. His theory heavily influences education,
however not like many would expect. His research lies in helping people understand the
importance in a positive relationship between students and teachers. Erikson s Career For Erikson

  • 2. Examples Of Personification In Into Thin Air In the story Into Thin Air, the author talks about his experiences about Mountain Everest. He uses lots of figurative language as he has to talk about how others and himself are feeling. In the passage The roar of the wind made it impossible to communicate from one tent to the next. In this godforsaken place. (Krakauer 284), he uses personification because we imagine roar as loud as a lion and he wants to compare it to the wind that s making loud noise. This passage also gives us feeling of how he felt from this uproar of sound, he expresses himself by saying in this godsakenplace (284), this attitude tells us that the wind is not breezing, instead it s more of an unpleasant sounding gush of air. As a reader, I can say that he is trying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author uses personification in the passage And the meter was running; even as we reclined in our tents we were using up precious gas. (284). I think he includes lots of personification because he loves to compare human characteristics to non living objects since we know how it physically feels to do human characteristics. In this case, he says the meter is running and when we think of running, we know how it feels to have our heartbeat feel. Overall, he plays with his language to make sure that we are bored of the passage and we can feel the setting in the story. In the next passage, we talk about how he is feeling emotionally. Through this expedition, he goes through a rough time with getting his energy up and not giving up, the challenging part is trying to stay with the team. Throughout his expedition, he is having to take care of his teammates and he wouldn t take care of them for no reason, there was always a reason to take care of people around him.. He says I felt disconnected from the climbers around me emotionally, spiritually, physically to a degree I had not experiences on any previous expedition... yet I would do everything in my power to keep pushing on if he turned around (284), this is an example of pathos because he uses his heart to express his feeling about his connections with his teammates. In the actual passage, he talks about his teammates for quite a while which also makes the reader know that he is really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Qualitative Analysis of the Types of Goals Athletes Set... Summary of an Article: A Qualitative Analysis of the Types of Goals Athletes Set in Training and Competition Validity and Reliability In order for research to be reliable, other researchers must be able to perform the same experiment and achieve the same results (Shuttleworth, 2008). The reliability of this study is unknown at this point. In the past, researchers have used quantitative methods to try to find out the feelings that athletes have had about goal setting. This survey method has increased reliability because it has limited the answer options for the survey respondents. However, the researchers were concerned that the results be generalizable, so they adopted an open ended survey. Athletes completed an open ended questionnaire about the specific types of goals they set. The questionnaire was structured around issues of interest in the present research (e.g., goal setting in training versus competition) and previous findings (e.g., athletes set goals for skill improvement, confidence enhancement, and for outcomes such as winning) (Munroe Chandler et al., 2004). Because it was a qualitative study and the investigators coded responses, examining internal reliability is critical to determine whether or not the study exhibited reliability. The researchers used a constant comparative method to divide transcripts into text units and compare and regroup them. Two researchers independently ranked the responses, and they had 97% agreement on their coding, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

America is ranked extremely low in political participation amongst other industrialized countries, coming in above only two countries, Russia and Switzerland. As a whole, mass participation is not stressed in The United States. Texas, ranks below the bottom for voter turnout among other states. Texas already does not stress mass participation as compared to Midwestern states and New England states. Texas also has many factors than can contribute to its low voter turnout such as racial diversity, socioeconomic diversity and political culture. Voter turnout has decreased on a national level throughout the years, even in presidential elections. On a nationwide scale, voter turnout is lowest in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, a rational voter will only vote if the personal benefits outweigh the costs. Most Americans know that the likelihood of one vote determining the outcome of the election is very low, therefore many people do not see a direct tangible benefit from voting in an election. Studies also show that the poor, unemployed, less educated and minority population tend to feel alienated from politics. Unless a candidate is specifically addressing their specific needs, this population of people do not feel the need to go out and vote. Another factor of low voter turnout is the media predicting early winners. When media and news outlets predict the winner of a vote before the polls are even closed, voters may feel discouraged from voting, thinking that their candidate has already lost and their vote will not make a difference. However, this can also work in the reverse direction, where people choose to go and vote in order to ensure that the predicted candidate does not win, as was seen recently in the Michigan primary election where Hillary Clinton was predicted to win ended up losing to Bernie ... The reason for this was because my family was brought to a country that totally wiped out my ancestor s culture. The only part I understand of my family history is slavery. We started out as slaves in when first brought to America. We were originally from West Africa. We lived in places such Nigeria, Congo, and Ghana. This was a time when we owned our land and freedom. However, around the late 1500s, the western European culture had finally discovered our deeply rooted heritage. They saw that beautiful land we had nourished, They saw the love within our community. They saw the resource we provided. They realized the strength we had as a people. Soon the western Europeans felt that needed to conquer us and our land. The wanted to prove that we re able to conquer because of the more industrialized military they had. They forced my people to move to a unformal land that conquered from another culture of people. So after arrival to the new world, the European immediately forced my ancestors to change their names. They gave us our names of our slave owners. This resulted in my ancestors to being someone s property. My ancestors worked day in and day out in the hot sun; picking cotton, building houses, growing crops and being housemaids. The Economic And Economic Impact Of The Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution, occurring primarily from the 1865 the 1900s, is informally defined as the expeditious development of industry . The Industrial Revolution aided in, well, you guessed it... industrial and economic development through the establishment of machinery driven by electricity, the establishment of varying marketing strategies, and utilization of workers. This period eventually led to a more stable economy, however, not without 3 separate periods of economic depression and the division of people by wealth. Industrialists had leverage, as people of the working class were willing to work for any amount of money. However, labor unions were formed to combat increasing hours and decreasing wages along with strikes. Post Civil War, the rise of industry induced a power shift from aristocrats to industrialists promoting capitalism. In regards to the economy the increased output of products resulted in a greater standard of living as demonstrated by the increase of GDP from 1865 1900 by dollars. • 32. Birth Control And Fertility Birth Control and Fertility One of the most common misconceptions circling society for years is how the use of contraceptives (birth control) can affect women s fertility. Birth control is a mixture of hormones that thicken the cervical mucus to prevent the ovaries from ovulating eggs, as well as changing the lining of the uterus to make reproduction difficult. For this reason, women use multiple contraceptive methods to help with hormonal issues, menstrual problems, ovarian disorders, but the most common use is for the prevention of pregnancy. So how does a medication that prevents one from getting pregnant not affect fertility, especially for those who utilize it for years? Ever since the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved contraceptives in 1960, it has become one of the most thoroughly tested medications. With a few notable exceptions, immediately after you stop using birth control, your fertility will go right back to what it was destined to be, says Dr. Paul Blumenthal, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins University Medical School. By this he means that problems conceiving may be attributed to age, disorders, and other factors that can lead to infertility, but the contraceptive itself does not affect it once you stop utilizing it. Short term relationships do not have the staying power as one where the couples are getting to know one another for a longer period of time. It doesn t provide the context to really find out the worth, the values, the character, and commitment of the other person. (Inc., 1998). I believe this is well said considering that you really do not get to know a person until you have spent some long quality time with them. Communication cannot be over rated on this issue because without communication you do not have a relationship. People are much fussier about whom they marry than whom they cohabitate with, explains Paul Amato, a sociologist at Penn State University and one of the theory s originators. A lot of people cohabit because it seems like a good idea to share expenses and have some security and companionship, without a lot of commitment. (Wartik, 2005). • 44. The Problem With Pleasure By Laura Frost In Laura Frost s book, The Problem with Pleasure, she tackles the work of modernist Gertrude Stein. In the chapter labeled Stein s Tickle Frost tries to help her readers understand and interpret Stein s Tender Buttons, along with other works. She writes, I want to suggest a new model for approaching Stein s work that takes into account both the appeal and the difficulties of her texts: tickling (Frost 66). Instead of focusing on Stein s words and trying to explain what she means in her works, Frost clarifies what s happening with Stein through the other side of a literary work, meaning the readers instead of the author. Frost does not fully explain Tender Buttons itself, but she tries to define Stein s purpose for writing the way she does by analyzing the relationship Stein has with her readers. Using this tactic instead of just simply telling her audience what Stein means when she writes things such as, A light white, a disgrace, an ink spot, a rosy charm (Stein 13), is a way to help her readers understand where authors, such as Stein, are coming from. So in helping Stein s frustrated readers understand her work, Frost does three main things: she shows the readers that they are not alone in their sea of frustration, she clarifies what Stein is doing when she uses certain words or repetitions, and she explains where the readers stand according to Stein. This thematic statement is furthered constantly in the text by literary elements such as setting, characterization and point of view. First, is the characterization of Miss Moore. Throughout the story, Miss Moore demonstrates an interesting comparison to the children. In many ways, she provides a contrast to them, which is shown immediately in her introduction, ...this lady moved on our block with nappy hair, and proper speech, and no makeup. However, she is able to accomplish this because of a few key commonalities between herself and the children. Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory Of Development Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory of Development Erik Erikson, a German psychologist of the early 1900s, is most known for his theory on psychosocial development in humans. He was heavily influenced by his work with Anna Freud and her father, Sigmund Freud. However, in his research, he put emphasis on the cultural and social impact on identity development and studying the ego, which he believed developed with successful crisis resolving throughout life ( Erikson s Stages , 2007). He proposed the life long model of development, consisting of eight stages. Erikson assumes that in every stage of development, there is a crisis that the individual must overcome despite the conflict of their psychological needs and the needs of society (McLeod, 2008, В¶9). With achievement of the basic virtue associated with each stage, the individual can move forward with their development. The conflict between the ego and societal experiences, Erikson coined as an identity crisis ( Identity Formation , 2015, В¶2) The ultimate idea with the stages of development is that these struggles must be overcome by individuals in order to find their sense of identity and self knowledge. His theory heavily influences education, however not like many would expect. His research lies in helping people understand the importance in a positive relationship between students and teachers.
