This document discusses Sinclair Community College's My Academic Plan (MAP) program, which was created to help students navigate the transition from a quarter to semester system. MAP provides each student with a clear, individualized academic path that shows what courses they need to take, when they are offered, and any prerequisites. It aims to address common student questions and ensure they stay on track to complete their degree on time. The program includes tools like degree audits, academic remarks on transcripts, and current course scheduling to remind students and advisors of the prescribed path and take action if students stray from it. The goal is to help students make the right decisions with guidance but without being too intrusive.

– Conversion to semesters would not increase cost
of their education or lengthen the time needed to
complete degree, as long as student has MAP

• How do we know what students need to do?
• How do students know what they need to do?
• How do we know the students have done what we told
them to do?
• Will the students remember to do what we advised?
• How can we help students make the right decisions
without being too intrusive?
• How do we ensure, that as an institution, we offer the
courses during the terms we told students to take
them?

5. What can we do about it?
• Create a clear individual Academic path for
each student (tailored to them)
• Be Prescriptive (but not stringent)
• Remind the student, and everyone who works
with the student, what that path is at every
opportunity
• Take action if they stray from the path
• “Default” path should lead to success with out
having to “Do Options”
