SLIDE 1 – GREETINGS
SLIDE 2 – Introductions
Crime as a social phenomenon greatly affects our community. With this,
different initiatives, programs, and activities have been generated in order to
address it. Though crime on one side can give positive effects like promoting
the unity of people, serving as notification of maladjustments, or as a guard
against immorality, the vast effect lies on the negative side in which the
majority of the government resources have been utilized. Crime, therefore, is
considered expensive and the types of costs used in it are widely varied. In
addition, some costs are short-term while others last a lifetime but of course,
the ultimate cost is the loss of life. Other costs to victims can include medical
costs, property losses, and loss of income.
Accordingly, “A vigilant community is a peaceful community”. In our
society, emphasis and recognition should be placed on the so-called
mobilized community which is composed of those who are tasked to assume
a leading role not only in law enforcement but in the endeavour to fashion the
values and attitudes that make the criminal justice system work.
SLIDE 3 -
Thus, the saying Crime is everybody’s business now commonlyapplied.
And, considering that every people are now encouraged to participate in
dealing with crime, the following arguments have been raised.
Do the learning of criminologya factor to resolve crime?
Does sharing of the criminal justice processin the field is of help in solving a
crime?
Do our goals for following the criminal justice processpossiblysolve the
crime?
Do our teaching methods in the field can cause solutions to a crime?
Do our interaction with the community and stakeholders a factor to solve the
crime?
Does learning assessmentcontribute to the solution of crime? And;
Do professionalgrowth influence the solution of crime?
SLIDE 4
As to argument 1, on solving crime by learning criminology this is my concept.
Let’s see again what is criminology as we relate to crime
solution/prevention? Criminology is the study of crime from a social
perspective, including examining who commits crimes, why they commit
them, their impact, and how to prevent them. It only means that criminology
has a big role relative to the resolution of crime. Simply means. The goal of
criminology is to determine the root causes of criminal behavior and to
develop effective and humane means for addressing and preventing it. Best
and real that explained it, is the TRIO/ TRIANGLE/ ANATOMY of CRIME.
Law enforcers is keep on reminding the general public to avoid being the
victim and target of crime due to its impacts on individual, victims and their
families, society and even criminals themselves.
Also, Criminologyis the scientific study of crime, including its causes,
responsesby law enforcement, and methods of prevention. It is a sub-group
of sociology, which is the scientific study of social behavior. Through training
and seminars, Authority acquires learning and ideas that will enable them
determine the causes of criminal behavior and thus, help them to develop an
effective and humane means for addressing and preventing it.
SLIDE 5
It is also multidisciplinary in both theory and practice, because
criminology is not about the crime per se but has differ meaning in
criminology, to interpret and explain why and how crime is transpired,
committed and omitted. (August Vollmer taught) remember what, one of the
American scholar said; taught everyone that criminology was not just about
research. Because it can also be an art. Criminologists play an
important role in the criminal justice system. They conduct research, teach
and work with various law enforcement agencies. They study the social and
psychological factors that cause people to commit crimes and research
which approaches to rehabilitation work and don't work.
SLIDE 6
This conceptof learning criminology was exposedby Hans Gross (the
father of Criminalistics) This same philosophy was also adopted to great
extent by August Vollmer (1876–1955),the first chief of police in Berkeley,
California, and the leading figure behind early efforts to professionalize and
modernize law enforcementtraining and criminal justice education in the
United States. Vollmer believed that law enforcementcould and should be
professionalized to meet its mandates. He developedpolice training
academies and courses of study by fostering relationships with a number of
differentcollegesand universities over the span of his career. Today,
criminology is very wide ahead to others in terms of Public safety because of
its broadestcoverage,as shown in the picture above.
SLIDE – 7 why we should learn about Crime?
Crime is pervasive. It is now part of community and partner of
Development. Spread throughout an area or something getting spread to all
parts. If crime exists, everyone was concern, asking and knowing all
circumstances surrounding it. Ex cyber-attacks. Remember the issue of Bank
Scam. This is the latest controversy to hit the Philippine banking industry in
the past few months. In 2016,Rizal CommercialBanking Corporation (RCBC)
was slapped a record P1-billion fine for involvement in $81-million
Bangladesh Bank heist. Last month, numerous clients of Ayala-led Bank of
the Philippine Islands (BPI) reported unauthorized transactions in their
accounts for two days. The bank attributed the fiasco to an "internal data
processing error."
Crime is expensive. The loss of productivity by incapacitated victims,
unemployment compensationpaid to victims, fees paid for physical and
psychological therapy for victims, and socialsecurity payments and funeral
expenses associated with ex. murder.
SLIDE 8, CONT’
3. Destruction of propertyand life.
4. Reflectto everyone. This is the trauma and emotional suffering to the
victims and even the family. The crime volume of certain locality affectthe life
of everyone, Its political, socio-cultural, economical, commercialand industrial
and the bottom line.. UN PROGRESSIVE.
5. Rememberthat one of the root causes of crime is vast increasing
population. And in simplestidea, the more the people the merrier crime exist.
In conculsion….
SLIDE 9 As to argument 2, this is my concept Does sharingof the criminal
justice processin the field is of help in solving a crime?
It is the job of the agencies of justice to prevent these behaviours by
apprehending and punishing transgressors or deterring their future
occurrence.Remember,Only the criminal justice system has the power to
control crime and punish criminals.
To prevent the occurrence of crime- Law Enforcement
To punish the transgressors and the criminals- Corrections and Serve as
deterrence to others.
To rehabilitate the transgressors and the criminals. - Corrections and Serve
as deterrence to others.
To compensate the victims as far as possible.Court and community
To maintain law and order in the society.Community and LE
To deter the offenders from committing any criminal act in the future.
SLIDE 10 - Functions Of CriminalJustice System And Its Relationship
To Resolution Of Crime
1. Preventing the commissionof crime, enforcing the law.
2. Protecting life, individual rights and property.
3. Removing dangerous persons forthe community.
4. Deterring people from indulging in criminal activities.
5. Investigating, apprehending, prosecuting and sentencing those who
cannot be deterred from violating the rules of the society.
6. Rehabilitating offendersand returning them to the community as law-
abiding citizen.
SLIDE 11….
An effective and efficientCriminal Justice System is a genuine trust and
confidence ofthe general public. It is this trust and confidence that spells the
differencebetweenan actively supportive public on the one hand, and an
apathetic community on the other hand. It is the building block of successful
crime prevention strategies.
SLIDE 12 as toargument3, Do our goals for following the criminal
justice processpossibly solve the crime?
1. Primary Goals
a. Maintenance of peace and order.
b.Protectmembers of society.
2. SecondaryGoals or Sub-Goals
a. Prevention of crime.
b.The review of the legality of the preventive and suppressive measures.
c. The judicial determination of gift or innocence of those apprehended.
SLIDE 13
d. The proper dispositionof those who have beenlegally found guilty.
e. The correction by socially approved means of the behavior of those who
violate the criminal law.
f. The suppressionof criminal conductby apprehending offenders for
whom prevention is ineffective.
To be more productive, the five pillarsmustharden theirrelations
with other agencies geared to their collective efforts to have an
impartialadministration of justice for all…
The ultimate goalsof the CriminalJustice System is to
deliveran efficient, effective, accountable and fair justice process
for the public.
SLIDE 14
As to argument 4, this is my answer; Do our teaching methods in the
field can cause solutionsto a crime?
READ slide… "Socratic questioningteaches us the importance of
questioning in learning (indeedSocrateshimselfthoughtthat
questioning was the only defensible form of teaching). It teaches us the
differencebetweensystematic and fragmentedthinking. It teaches us to
dig beneath the surface of our ideas. It teachesus the value of
developing questioning minds in cultivating deep learning.
Read…. Through teaching we gain knowledge. But, Schoolis not only
the place to learn but also at home. Because, the customs and belief we
grasp since then is also a form of teaching.
SLIDE 15 - READ and Explore briefly… Good community relations get a
positive effecton reducing crime, helping to eliminate fear of crime and
improving the quality of life in the community. These things are done by
integrating the efforts and resources of the police, local government and
community members.
SLIDE 16 - Do our interaction with the community and stakeholders a
factor to solve the crime?
The effective and efficient performance of authorities is influenced the way
the community and stakeholders support. Community Partnership is,
therefore, the linchpin component that will determine whether government
succeeds in fighting and giving solutions to crimes. So, Community
Partnership is need by the government to motivate/catalyze, organize and
mobilize the citizenry as many as possible, to perform their duties as partner
of authorities in crime combating.
Without the active and meaningful involvement of the community, even the
besttrained and equipped police force would fail in its function of maintaining
peace,order and stability in society.
SLIDE 17 PICTURE
This theory is the forerunner of the Neighbourhood Policing/KIN
Policing. Rememberthis, everyone has the responsibilityto defend its
community while in attack of law breakers.
SLIDE 18
Without the active and meaningful involvement of the community, even
the best trained and equipped police force would fail in its function of
maintaining peace, order and stability in society.
SLIDE 19
As to argument, Does learning assessmentcontribute to the solution of
crime?
Assessing the community awareness on the different Crime
Prevention/Solution activities renders by the authorities will help them to shift
or let say upgrades their intervention in resolving the crime in the community.
SLIDE 20 Discussed each…
SLIDE 21
Assessing the community awareness on the different Crime
Prevention/Solution activities renders by the authorities will help them to shift
or let say upgrades their intervention in resolving the crime in the community.
SLIDE 22: (PICTURES) Optional
SLIDE 23 The last arguments, Do professional growth influence the
solution of crime?
- Professional growth is learning to earn or retain professional
qualifications, such as academic degrees in formal course work,
attending conferences and informal learning opportunities in practice. It
has been describedas intensive and collaborative, ideally integrating an
assessment stage.
- Training as a means to deter crime and foster a culture of lawfulness.
Focus on those facets of education that are intended to promote critical
thinking skills among young people and to raise awareness that crime is
bad and detrimental to society. This, in turn, should motivate individuals
to refrain from illegal activity and also promote social efforts to deter
and solve all forms of crime.
SLIDE 24
It’s because of the students learning if he/she will commit crimes. Gain
knowledge on what will happen to him the moment he committed it. In short,
because of his learning as I said while a go in our previous discussions.
SLIDE 25
So it’s understood, that education prompted crime reduction comes
about. Likewise, might be that the extra education makes the individual more
productive in the labour market and so boosts employment and wages.
SLIDE 27 28 29..

They study the social and psychological factors that cause people to commit crimes and research which approaches to rehabilitation work and don't work. SLIDE 6 This conceptof learning criminology was exposedby Hans Gross (the father of Criminalistics) This same philosophy was also adopted to great extent by August Vollmer (1876–1955),the first chief of police in Berkeley, California, and the leading figure behind early efforts to professionalize and modernize law enforcementtraining and criminal justice education in the United States. Vollmer believed that law enforcementcould and should be professionalized to meet its mandates. He developedpolice training academies and courses of study by fostering relationships with a number of differentcollegesand universities over the span of his career.
