Organizational transformation involves radical changes in strategy, structure, and behavior that are led by the top management team. There are two types of transformation - forced transformations react suddenly to changes in the environment, while planned transformations are implemented systematically in anticipation of needed changes. Reasons for transformation include changes in corporate strategy, competition, and the external environment. The process of transformation involves creating a shared vision, developing a strategy, establishing metrics, creating a roadmap, preparing people, and building a team to implement changes. Barriers to transformation are resistance to changes, lack of commitment and resources. Measures to overcome resistance include effective communication, consultation, education and support for the changes.
