The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.

2. DARE TO TAKE
RISK/CHALLENGES
• When Captain Russel challenges Bhuvan to a
cricket match, Bhuvan accepts it because he
knows that there is really no option. It is a
risk, but without taking risks, there are no
rewards.
• Bhuban accepted this challenge as an
Opportunity.
• Like most good leaders he recognisesthat a
crisis is an opportunity.
3. DREAM BIG AND
DEFINE THE GOAL
• Bhuvan accepting the challenge to play the
cricket match, as winning it meant 3 yrs of
‘TAXFREE’ happiness.
• But he did not just dream ‘BIG’, he also
chalked out a strategic plan of action to win
the match.
• Bhuvan did not dream for himself, he
dreamt for the good of his village folk.
4. LEADING BY EXAMPLE
• Bhuvan makes the villagersunderstand that
cricket in a simpler way by giving the
example of gilli-danda.
• This way even today’s managers canuse
simple examples for solvingcomplex
problems.
5. BUILDING THE TEAM
And ALLOCATING ROLES
• Bhuvan builds his Team
• Building the team is like recruitment. One needs to
select the right people and motivate them.
• He understands the pressures and the soft points of
people, and uses this knowledge to make them part
of his team.
• Each one of his team members is treated as special,
as being different.
6. BE EMOTIONALLY
STABLE
•Bhuban was not more excited with little
success (e.g. First wicket partnership) or
didn’t worried in critical situations (e.g. 6
from 1 ball).
•Like this Managers must be strong to
handle situations emotionally and set
example for his follower.
7. NEVER GIVE UP
• Last ball of the match was played with hope. 5
runs to win out of 1 ball, but Bhuvan played it
great expectations as though it could win the
match for the team and that is exactly what
happened…..
• He never gave up on his ability and this is what
made the team win the match
• In sport, in life or in business always be alert
and keep giving your best to situations, because
you never know when opportunity strikes
8. ITS ABOUT TEAM SPIRIT
• Bhuvan showed how an average team filled
with team spirit can overcome a group of
talented, experienced but under-motivated
individuals.
• No matter how well Bhuvan played in the
match, nothing would have been possible if all
the TEAM MEMBERS did not put in their
efforts
9. ITS ABOUT PEOPLE…
• The film ‘Lagaan’ is all about how ordinary
people can do extraordinary deeds.
• Its about bringing out something from within us.
Something which has been hidden and long
forgotten.
• Something whose existence we didn’t know.
• As we go about our lives, we need to be
reminded that each one of us matters, that each
one of us has it within us to make a difference.
