Hannah Rachel Grant is applying for the role of Makeup Artist for an upcoming dance performance at Arley Hall in February 2014. She has experience working as a Makeup Artist for Priestley College's Winter Showcase in December 2013, which involved working under pressure to apply makeup to performers within tight time constraints. She also had to do quick makeup changes between performances. Her previous work required excellent communication and organization skills. Hannah was also a makeup artist for a band's photo shoot in November 2013, where her duties included purchasing supplies, applying appropriate makeup for each band member, and communicating with the photographer about the desired look. She believes this role will provide a great experience and help her aspirations to become a professional Makeup Artist.

To whomever it may concern,
After seeing your recent advertisement in The Stage newspaper, I am writing to apply for the role of Makeup
Artist for the Dance performance at Arley Hall in February 2014. As a perfectionist, I always strive to achieve
the highest standard possible in any given task. I understand that in order to exceed in this area of work I must
be able to cope in fast paced environments which may become stressful at times; possess extensive knowledge
in makeup artistry as well as hair design and be an extremely organised individual who can create original and
imaginative looks whilst being able to liaise with the directors and choreographers of the show.
I believe that my experience working as a Makeup Artist for Priestley College’s Winter Showcase in December
2013 will enable me to take your advertised role with confidence.This job involved me working under pressure
as there was a certain amount of time dedicated to making up the performers before they went on stage, and
this allowed me to show that I am more than capable of working with precision and professionalism even when
being rushed. Another responsibility I had was doing very quick makeup changes in between performances for
acts that were in more than one showcase, which, in reference to my excellent organisational skills, required me
to keep track of who needed a change-over, whereabouts they would exit the stage so that I could position
myself to save time and what makeup they actually needed. Communication with the Choreographer was vital
as they gave me a brief to work from – without this, I would not have known what the context, genre or desired
effect of the show was. This particular showcase involved many styles such as Contemporary, Salsa and Modern
Dance and the contexts were different for each one.
In addition to this, in November 2013 I was asked to be the makeup artist for an all-male band’s photo shoot
which took place in Rhyll. My duties and responsibilities included:
Purchasing and providing suitable makeup and equipment
Applying my knowledge of certain products to decide which ones would be best suited to each member
of the band
Communicating with the Photographer in order to know what kind of look he wanted
Being comfortable enough in new surroundings to be able to talk and get along well with who I was
working with
I would love for the opportunity to get heavily involved in the Arley Hall Dance performance because I believe
that it would not only deliver a fantastic experience for myself, but would contribute greatly to my aspirations
of becoming a professional in Makeup Artistry and Hair Design.
