Project/Dissertation N/A%
Module (part A) develops the student's ability to work independently and to recognise, define and investigate problems.
Module (part B) integrates the third year modules into a major group project that simulates a real life civil engineering project.
4 to 6 students per hour each week to have individual tutor
Part A: Individual Proposal topics will be selected from one of the following areas:
Highway Engineering / Soils
Concrete
Public Health / Environmental Engineering
Civil Engineering Works
Computer Aided Design
Construction Management
Structural Engineering
Other approved topic
Normally, two components will combine to make up the overall assessment
oral presentation
written report
Criteria for evaluations will be of the form:
Management of the project
Use of research literature.
Originality of the project report.
Presentation of information.
Content.
Conclusions.
Part B: Project Development
Each year a different type of development is chosen as the master project by the co-ordinator. This is presented to the course lecturers who subsequently develop

3. Identify the practical issues involved in carrying out research.
4. Discuss the value, nature, uses and limitations of a range of research methods.
5. Organise, plan and manage the collection of information from a variety of sources.
6. Develop  interpersonal and presentation skills.
7. Develop the ability to communicate effectively through various mediums.
8. Produce a final written report to an acceptable standard.
