Independent films are produced partially or completely outside of major film studios, and are characterized by a personal artistic vision. Mainstream films have wide theatrical releases through major film companies and distributors. They include blockbuster films and movies adapted from bestselling books. Some examples of independent films provided are Four Lions, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Black Swan, and Borat, while mainstream examples given are Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lion King, Bridesmaids, and Jaws.
