2. Mainstream films
• A mainstream film means that the ideas, attitudes, or
activities that are shared by most people and regarded as
normal or conventional. An example of mainstream films
are hollywood films and blockbuster films. Typical
mainstream films are released in cinemas for only a short
period of time then are extremely well advertised for
when the dvd comes out. Mainstream films in most cases
have a greater budget therefore they are usually better
quality because they have a bunch of A-list actors and
are able to shoot in the best locations with a highly
qualified and experienced team to shoot and edit the
movie.
3. The Incredibles is a mainstream movie as it was
showcased in hollywood and was in cinema for
only a short time. They heavily funded
marketing for this therefore dvd sales went
through the roof as 17.38 million copies sold.
The target audience of this film would mainly be
children between the ages of 3-13 but is still
liked by people of all ages as the film tends to
reach out to all ages.
4. Independent films
Independent films are described as films that are produced
outside a major film studio, independent films are usually
distinguished both by the style and the artistic way the director
chooses to show them. Independent films have a considerably
lower budget than Mainstream films. Independent films tend to
have a limited release and are heard of by word of mouth
usually and reach out to specific audiences. Independent films
are not shown in cinema as they do not have the funding and
mainly put straight on the dvd. In modern day they are put on
the internet and on Netflix for example bullet boy is an
independent film shot in London on a low budget and a great
deal of the locations are in the suburbs.
5. This film has a small target audience of the ages 15+
- 40 years old and mainly targeted to males. We can
even see this from the cover page due to the main
font being in sans serif bold which is typically a more
masculine font. This film is very low budget and you
can see as most locations are outside shot in rural
areas or inside a car. This re-enforces the the plot of
the movie which is two people on the hunt for there
target.
