Question 3
What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
Influences
Our film is a horror/thriller, sub
genre – psychological horror.
Our main influence for our task
came strongly from John
Carpenters The
Ward, distributed by American-
based distribution companies
such as ARC
entertainment, XLrator Media
and Warner Bros. Pictures.
Apart from this, another film that
played a part in the creation of
our task was
After.Life, distributed by Anchor
Bay Entertainment.
Xlrator Media
Recently founded in
2010, Xlrator Media is a
multi-platform releasing
company whose
projects include feature
films, specials and
libraries. Among the
films that they have
released include John
Carpenter’s The
Ward, Greystone Park
and 7 Below.
Warner Brothers
Warner bros. is abroad-
based entertainment
company and global leader
in the
creation, production, distribu
tion, licensing and marketing
of all forms of entertainment
and related businesses. The
company’s library consists of
over 6,500 feature
films, including the
Apparition and Friday The
13th, and 3,000 live-action
and animated television
series.
Hammer
From when it had first started
out, Hammer has produced
over 150 feature films many
of which being horror. It is
one of the best renowned
film brands in the UK being
responsible for the
production of many
worldwide favorites such as
The Woman in Black, Let me
In and Wake Wood.
Universal Studios
Universal Studios is an
American motion picture
studio who are one of the six
major movie studios
worldwide, producing many
horror movies - a few which
include Mama, The Last
house on the Left and Silent
Hill. As well as having this
status, it is also the fourth
oldest In the world that still
continues to produce films.
Why Universal Studios?
The reason as to why we decided to choose Universal
Studios is not only because they are a well known and
respected production company but also due to the fact
that they specialise in the genre of horror. Although their
subgenre is usually associated with Gothic horror, it has also
produced many Physiological, something of which appeals
to us due to it being the subgenre of our film.
Instead of taking the easy root and going with a company
known for physiological horrors, we wanted to try and stand
out and with Universal failing to distribute or produce many
films of the subgenre of the physiological theme for a
while, made it more appealing for the requirements we
desired for our film.
