- 1. M A I N I N F L U E N C E S - T E E N A G E D R U G / A L C H O L A B U S E I D E A : M E G A N B Y R N E
- 2. J A W S - B A D C O M P A N Y : • The music video to ‘Bad Company’ is a main influence due to the themes and narrative addressed within the video - for example, the narrative follows a female youth, throughout the video she is seen drinking and smoking, walking around a town. • In my opinion, this is music video is a realistic example of modern youth subcultures - bored with ‘nothing to do’, leaving them to get drunk and ‘hang about’ the streets and parks.
- 3. J A W S - B A D C O M P A N Y : • Also, Jaws’ use of credits at the begging of the music video (‘JAWS - BAD COMPANY’) is an aspect that is influential to my ideas, the use of a bold font at the beginning of the music video overlapping a video of the ‘town’ is extremely eye catching.
- 4. J A W S B A D - C O M P A N Y : • Further, the locations within the music video are extremely influential on my ideas. The use of an industrial ‘urban’ town, with lots of tall tower block style buildings, helps to show how the youth is trapped within her surroundings - leading to her rebelling and drinking/smoking. Further, the use of industrial buildings, featuring graffiti, add a ‘gritty’ feel to the music video - almost a reflection of how the youth feels within her surroundings.

W O L F A L I C E - F L U F F Y : • This music video is an influence of mine due to its narrative - it follows the story of youths bored within a small town, leading to them acting going ‘off the rails’ and rebellious by forming a band, throwing a rock concert and vandalising the streets. • The idea of youths being bored within their surroundings and acting rebellious because of it is an aspect that I think will work well with my idea of drug and alcohol abuse amongst youth subcultures.

W O L F A L I C E - F L U F F Y : • Also, within ‘Fluffy’, Wolf Alice use references towards modern youth culture - such as the use of scenes where the two youths are on their macbook recording a video. • The use of the laptop scene as a reference towards modern technology, suggests the stereotype that youths spend their ‘whole lives online’ (with the growing popularity of apps/websites such as Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook etc). • We intend on using mobile phones and laptops within our production and this idea was largely influenced by this scene within ‘Fluffy’.

C H A R L I X C X - S U P E R L O V E : • The use of colours within the mise-en-scene (costume, makeup, locations and props) of the music video was extremely influential when creating music video ideas. Not only do I believe that all of the bright, bold colours used within the mise-en-scene represent youth (‘fun’, ‘bright’, ‘electric’) - I also think that they are extremely eye catching and would be memorable when viewed by an audience. • Also, as our theme is drug and alcohol abuse amongst youth subcultures the bright colours used would work well within our production, adding a ‘trippy’ effect.

S K I N S : • The British teen drama ‘Skins’ (2008-13) has been a huge influence on the narrative of my idea. ‘Skins’ features stories of rebellious youths that in the middle of are taking their A- Level exams - the show explores themes of friendship, drug/alcohol abuse and love, as well as the stresses of being a youth in modern society. I believe that these themes are relevant and realistic to modern day youths and by applying them within our narrative our target market will be able to connect and engage with our production.

S K I N S : • Further, the style of costume and makeup within ‘Skins’ is an aspect that has influenced my ideas - the characters are often seen wearing bright, vibrant outfit and bold makeup looks. I believe that this aspect furthers the theme of youth within the TV show - some may argue that this is a representation of the ‘fun side of youth’. The bright style of costume and makeup used is definitely an aspect that I believe I could incorporate within my production, to further my theme of youth subcultures.
