The team plans to use sports like volleyball and soccer to raise awareness and funds to provide sanitary towels while also giving the women a social support network. They hope to engage the government and organizations to address the issue and advocate for the rights of women living in slums.

If those activities weren’t enough, Emirates NBD celebrated International Women’s Day with the graduation of e7’s 2015 change makers, the announcement of a new batch of 2016 participants and the launch of ‘Women of Tomorrow’ a seed funding competition for young women in the UAE.
As we bring to an end the first quarter of 2016 we look ahead at the many exciting initiatives to come including a wide variety of Ramadan volunteer and giving opportunities guaranteed to offer everyone something of interest and expanded
volunteer options through our Exchanger Programme.

RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME OF BMCWS

Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.

Magic Bus nomination - CWN 2016
- 1. Magic Bus City Women Network
- 2. Magic Bus Magic Bus is a mentoring organisation working with children and young people living in marginalised communities in India. We train local community volunteers to deliver weekly sessions which using sporting activities to address key issues around education, health, gender and livelihood. Magic Bus currently supports 300,000 children and 8,000 young people across 22 states in India and in January 2015 we launched a pilot programme in the UK working with two primary schools and a secondary school in London.

Impact A key focus for Magic Bus is enabling girls to have the same opportunities as boys and we are proud that: • 98% of Magic Bus girls are in secondary school, compared to a national average of just 46% • 82% of Magic Bus children believe that it is just as important to invest in a girl’s future as a boy’s • 82% of Magic Bus children disagree that girls should get married before 18 • 92% of Magic Bus children believe that girls and boys have an equal capacity to excel in sports, and • 97% of Magic Bus children believe that boys and girls can play together.
- 5. Support from CWN Support in the region of £10,000 from CWN would contribute towards both Magic Bus’ India and UK programme. It costs just £20 to enable one child to go through the Magic Bus programme in India for one year meaning support can go a long way towards enable additional children to join the programme. The UK programme is still in the early stages and support could contribute towards the training of coaches and monitoring the impact the programme has had so far.
- 6. Further support from CWN CWN members would also be able to support by: • Making introductions to their networks • Providing pro-bono support in marketing and communications • Volunteering at fundraising events • Volunteering as mentors on our secondary schools programme.
