Focusing on Financial Literacy
On May 23rd, we launched our Financial Habits Survey,
the first in a brief series of surveys designed to help us
understand employee financial habits and knowledge related
to basic financial concepts. We’ve already received close to
800 responses and this information will help us develop an
internal education programme to improve the financial
health of our Emirates NBD family.

EXCO volunteers at JamJar
On April 14th, Emirates NBD’s Executive Committee (EXCO)
members met for a different reason – to head to JamJar, a
community art space in Al Quoz, Dubai, to help students from
SNF Children Development Center learn how to paint.
Following introductions and a brief tutorial on painting styles,
EXCO members were paired with children with disabilities to
help them explore the theme of repetitive patterns and
translate their ideas onto canvas. The experience became truly
rewarding as the canvases began to take shape.
JamJar activities are a regular part of our Exchanger Programme
and are aligned with the Bank’s commitment to advocate for
people with disabilities.
Thank you to our EXCO members for your support!
On April 7th, Emirates NBD Exchangers from Retail Collections
and Recovering (RCR) travelled to Sharjah to give Manzil
School a makeover. The team of 20 wasted no time and
within hours had painted all of the classrooms and corridors.
Each team had a supervisor who ensured the work was done
to perfection. The experience brought the team closer
together and Moosa Ahmed - Senior Vice President, Head
of Retail Collections and Recoveries shared his thoughts,
telling us that “it is easy to praise the experiences
of others, but living the experience gives great satisfaction.”

CMP Trainees Give Back
On May 14th, teams from our Certified Manager
Programme (CMP) pitched their business cases to
compete for the Best Community Leadership Project.
With support from our Learning and Development (L&D)
and CSR teams, participants worked together to develop
scalable internal CSR team’s initiatives that aligned with
the Bank’s CSR strategy. Given a hypothetical budget of
AED 50,000 and the mandate to maximize social impact,
the results were impressive, with winning projects related
to: improving financial literacy, introduction of a nursing
room for new mothers and reducing plastic bottle
consumption. Great job CMP grads!
Philippine Consulate visit
On May 27th, 15 Filipino members of the Exchanger
programme travelled to the Philippine embassy to bring
positive cheer to over 30 domestic maids, staying at the
consulate, who have been victims of sexual abuse and
domestic violence. Volunteers sang, danced and gave away
care packages to this brave group of women.
Private Banking raises funds
for water education
This June, Emirates NBD’s Private Banking, Business Marketing
and CSR teams came together to introduce a philanthropic
opportunity that enables the Bank’s high net worth clients to
make individual donations to support water education and
conservation programmes administered by our partner, Emirates
Wildlife Society, in association with World Wide Fund for
Nature. Despite being one of the driest nations globally, the
UAE has the 3rd highest rate of water consumption per capita,
exceeded only by our GCC neighbours, Qatar and Kuwait.
3. Volunteering for our Furry Friends
In May, Emirates NBD organized 8 events at the
Ras Al Khaimah Animal Welfare Center where Exchangers
played and cared for cats and dogs waiting to be adopted.
Just like children, animals need love, attention and
socialization to keep them happy and healthy. Eager to
oblige, our volunteers were rewarded with wagging tails
as they took their new furry friends for beach walks and
mountain hikes. Emirates NBD Exchangers also played an
active role in helping to find these animals forever homes
by photographing and assessing animals to create online
adoption profiles.

Banker for a Day
Last year, 24 students from across the UAE became
Bankers for a Day, to learn about bank operations and
career opportunities in the field of finance. After their
visits, students submitted essays, presentations and videos
describing the experience and what they had learned, for
the opportunity to win cash prizes. Coming in first place
was Fatimah Taquedees from Al Ain Juniors, followed by
Rama Naser from Universal American School in second
place and Rohan Chandy for DPS Sharjah in third place.
e7 Daughters of the Emirates
On June 18th, e7’s 2016 participants presented 9
community projects to a panel of judges responsible for
determining the allocation of AED 100,000 donated by
Emirates NBD for project financing. The judging panel
included Vikram Krishna, EVP - Head of Group Marketing
& Customer Experience, and Elena Cruz, VP - Head of
Group Brand Management & CSR, as well as Najla Al
Midfa, General Manager of Sheraa- Sharjah
Entrepreneurship Center and Michael Mansour, Chief
Innovation Officer for Microsoft Gulf. Among this year’s
most promising projects was Mootary, a project to
empower women to be independent in their car
ownership, and Maasari, a project for short job shadowing
mentorship opportunities for youth.
Autism Day
On April 2nd, we
invited our
colleagues to show
their support for
people with autism
and compete for the
opportunity to win
tickets to the SNF
Gala at JW Marriott
Marquis Hotel in
Dubai. Participants
were asked to get
creative and tag a
picture of themselves
wearing blue. Sharlyne Co from Tanfeeth went above
and beyond to win, reciting a poem highlighting what it
feels like to be Autistic, titled ‘What is Autism’ by author
of ‘The Autism Experience: International Perspectives on
Autism Parenting’, Valerie Foley.
Many of our Exchangers also showed their
support by joining hundreds from across Dubai for
the Autism Walk.
Like-to-Donate
This Ramadan, Emirates NBD’s Group IT team partnered with
the Social Media and CSR teams to introduce a novel feature
on social media that allows users to click “Like” to quickly
and painlessly make small but meaningful contributions to 9
registered UAE charities. The initiative, called ‘Like-to-Donate’,
is the first of its kind and connects our customer base to the
causes that matter to them. This initiative is an extension of
our current online donation channel which enables people to
donate through online and mobile banking.

The Tally is in!
Over the last several months, Emirates NBD’s Procurement
team has been working hard to reduce energy
consumption through strategic AC scheduling, and the
replacement of traditional light fittings with their more
efficient LED equivalents. All this effort has paid off,
literally, with an AED 500,000 reduction in utility
payments over 3 months! In energy terms, this is enough
energy to power about 650 homes!
Creating an environment of inclusion
Emirates NBD is strongly committed to empowering people
with disabilities, which not only includes identifying employment
opportunities for them, but also making the Bank a more
inclusive workplace through continuous sensitivity workshops
being conducted for our internal units. Working in collaboration
with our long-term partner Manzil, we’ve held 10 workshops
this year including 6 internal workshops and 1 external workshop
within the last 3 months. If you’re interested in hosting an
inclusion workshop for your company, please email Sara Ahmed
at GroupCSR@emiratesnbd.com.
Hag al-Leila
On May 19th, Emirates NBD’s Social Media team coordinated
with the CSR team to distribute over 1,000 small tote bags of
treats in celebration of the Emirati tradition, Hag El Leila. These
sweet surprises brought smiles to the faces of students and
patients from Manzil School, Al Noor Hospital, Dr. Majdi Al Halik
Rehabilitation Center and Latifa Hospital.
Understanding disability etiquette
As part of our commitment to advocate for people
with disabilities, we are working to improve customer
experience through the provision of Disability Etiquette
workshops and Sign Language training for our employees.
Workshops are divided into two modules, with the
first conducted by special needs educators from Manzil
focusing on disability etiquette, and the second an
introduction to the Sanad Card presented by the
Community Development Authority. The Jumeirah,
Hamriya and Rashidiya branches piloted the training
program Q1 and Q2 with more workshops to come in Q3.
Jumeirah launch
On June 2nd, Emirates NBD inaugurated the Jumeirah
branch next to City Walk as the first of 4 disability-friendly
branches to be
introduced this
year. Branch
upgrades
incorporated
changes to the
exterior, including
the introduction of
an accessible
entrance with pull
and push buttons,
accessible ramps,
handrails, freshly
painted zebra
crossings, an increased number of designated parking
spots and anti-slip covering forramps.
While the branch already had accessible ATMs, additional
features now include internal signage for the Teller and
Personal Banking areas, low-height ATM desks, dedicated
areas for wheelchairs in waiting areas and an option added
to the queue machine to ensure fast-tracked customer
service for people with disabilities.
Wings for Life
On May 8th, 39
employees from Emirates
NBD gathered at Dubai
Autodrome to
participate in the
worldwide ‘Wings for
Life World Run’ to raise
money and awareness
for spinal cord
injuries. The run, held
in sync in over 30
countries, was a test
of endurance – despite
38C temperatures, our
runners gave it their
all and powered
through.
5. Sunglasses for labourers
After a successful charitable drive last year that saw over 1000
sunglasses collected internally, Emirates NBD and La Moda
Sunglasses expanded the campaign, encouraging the public to
take part. Collection bins were installed at 17 locations across
Dubai, for people to donate their old sunglasses. As an
incentive, donors received a voucher entitling them to a 40%
discount off the purchase cost of a new pair of sunglasses at
La Moda Sunglasses stores across the UAE. Once collected, La
Moda repaired and sanitized the donated sunglasses and put
them in protective cases before distributing them through the
Smartlife Foundation to labourers.
Eid
shopping
This wonderful
initiative paired
volunteers from
across Emirates NBD
and Tanfeeth with
170 orphans and
students from
Manzil and SNF for
a mini shopping
spree to pick out
new clothes and
toys for Eid.
Story-telling for the elderly
Plus Points
Beginning this Ramadan, customers can donate money to
support children with disabilities by redeeming their unused
Plus Points from select credit cards. Facilitated by Beit al
Khair, the campaign will run indefinitely with funds raised
used to support the education and Umrah requirements of
underprivileged children with disabilities from key centers
including Rashid, Manzil, Al Noor and SNF.
Packing with Du
For the second year, Emirates NBD’s Exchangers worked
with Du and the Tarahum Foundation, a UAE-based
charitable organization, to pack and distribute 20,000
boxes full of essential Ramadan ingredients to thousands
of families in need. Volunteers assisted in the packing
of 13 essential food items into boxes.

Ramadan Initiatives
In association with
4get-me-not, a non-profit
organization that facilitates
activities for the elderly and
those suffering from
Alzheimer’s, Emirates NBD
proudly participated in the
story-telling initiative at the
Family Gathering Center this Ramadan. Volunteers interacted
with the elderly through storytelling and the distribution of
gifts and a shared Iftar meal.
6. Gift of Giving 2016
The Gift of Giving event, in partnership with
Action Care, celebrated the themes of
community and diversity with story-telling,
games and activities that promote literacy, while
providing children with an opportunity to learn
about different languages and methods of
communication.
40 Emirates NBD volunteers attended the event
over a span of 2 days, engaging with the
children by hosting a number of fun filled
games, such as face painting, balloon
distributions, serving Iftar and a gift distribution.
Rewaq Ousha
charity food boxes packaging
Emirates NBD along with Rewaq Ousha,
a well-known institution that works on the
development of the social responsibility among the
UAE citizens and residents organized food box
packaging and distribution to underprivileged
individuals and families. 2 groups of 10 Exchangers
participated in food packaging and distribution at Al
Qusais, Dubai for 2 days.
Café Ceramic
This Ramadan, Emirates NBD took the opportunity to
celebrate the wonderful teachers from the SNF Children
Development Center, by treating them to a fun team
outing at Café Ceramic. Teachers were given a unique
piece of ceramic, along with paints and brushes with the
task of creating a masterpiece of their choice.

Priority Banking
iftar
The PRB iftar event
annually organized by
Emirates NBD’s Priority
Banking team, ran from
the 12th of June – the 21st
of June. Tents were set up
in Ajman to welcome
laborers, underprivileged
individuals and families
and to provide them with
Iftar. Over 40 volunteers
participated in this activity
where they assisted in the
distribution of Iftar. In
addition the volunteers
went the extra mile and
distributed food packages
to the underprivileged
families and individuals by
the corniche.
Beit Al Khair
During the Holy month of
Ramadan, Emirates NBD
sponsored the Beit Al Khair Iftar
tent for 15 days. During this time
volunteers visited the tent and
helped in providing 200
individuals (per day) with Iftar at
the Jaddaf tent.
Supporting children with cancer
This June, Emirates NBD in
Saudi Arabia donated SAR
162,000, the equivalent of
AED 158,668, to Sanad
Children’s Cancer Support
Association for the purchase
of medical equipment used to support the treatment
of children with cancer.
