I conducted a focus group with 3 people matching my target audience for a new music magazine. They were all 17-18 year old females currently in education. Through questioning them about music tastes, magazine preferences, and ideal magazine content, I learned that they prefer magazines priced £3-4, featuring artists like Jessie J, One Direction and Justin Bieber through photos and articles. Bright colors but not too many would appeal, along with topless male celebrity photos but not unknown bands. This information will help design the magazine to attract this target audience.

The document discusses narrative structure in music videos through analyzing the author's music video for "Hey There Delilah" by Plain White T's. It examines how the author used techniques like editing, camerawork, and symbolism to portray a retrospective narrative about the artist's experiences with a girlfriend in London. The narrative was conveyed through dreamlike flashbacks, extreme close-ups comparing the male and female subjects, and linking shots to the song lyrics. Postmodernism is then defined as rejecting objective truth and global narratives in favor of difference, plurality and skepticism. Examples discussed include parody and pastiche in Katy Perry's "This Is How We Do" video and the nonlinear, identity-exploring nature of the video game The
Plain White T's will release their new album on August 20th. The album has received praise from music publications like NME and Q as a must-have or album of the year. The album includes their songs "Hey There Delilah" and "1..2..3..4" and fans can find more information on their Facebook page at facebook.com/plainwhitet.

This document discusses different types of lighting used in photography and film. There are two main types - hard lighting and soft lighting. Hard lighting uses a small light source to create sharp shadows, while soft lighting uses a larger or diffused light source to reduce shadows. Common lighting fixtures that create these effects are Fresnel lights, ellipsoidal spot lights, and scoop lights. The document also provides examples of how the author will apply different lighting techniques in their own coursework projects.
The band Plain White T's formed when the members were teenagers wanting to break into the music industry. Their album "London Town" was inspired by their 2003 international tour meeting fans, where lead singer Tom Higgenson was inspired to write a song about a specific girl named Delilah. The band worked hard practicing and visiting London landmarks to finish the album, which includes their hit song "Hey There Delilah" that gives listeners a personal look into their lives.
Plainwhitets' new album out on August 20th is being called NME's "must have album" of 2015. The album will include their hit song "Hey There Delilah" as well as "Hate" and "1..2..3..4".

This document provides band information and credits for the album "Hey There Delilah" by the band Plain White T's. It lists the band members and their roles. It also thanks those involved in producing, recording, and publishing the album. Additionally, it provides context for the inspiration behind the album's title track "Hey There Delilah", describing the band's experience touring internationally and being inspired to write a song for a specific girl named Delilah. It lists the album's 12 tracks.
Music videos began in the 1920s but became more widely used starting in the 1950s and 1960s as a way to promote music recordings on television and in movie theaters. In the 1980s, the launch of MTV made music videos hugely popular and influential, allowing artists like Michael Jackson to create short films for their songs. Today, music videos are commonly used to promote songs on digital platforms like YouTube and help launch the careers of new artists.
Grace Arnell proposes to create a music video for the song "Hey There Delilah" by the alternative rock band The Plain White T's. The video will feature fast cuts between shots that keep time with the lyrics and beat of the song. It will show personal experiences of the artist to make the audience feel a connection. The performance will be in black and white while the narrative parts will be in color. The target audience is male alternative rock fans ages 16-25, as the band performs smaller, more expensive concerts appealing to that demographic.
The brand guidelines outline how the band The Plain White T's identity and logo should be promoted globally to reach their target audiences. The guidelines specify that the digipack and music video presentation should be eye-catching to easily recognize the band's music internationally. The font used on the digipack is meant to allow audiences to feel personally involved with the band. The guidelines are intended for all individuals and organizations involved in branding the band, such as festivals and poster designers. The guidelines dictate that the band's logo must always be used as-is without alteration and with high resolution artwork.
The document discusses the common associations and meanings of different colors. Red is associated with energy, passion, and love but also danger, while pink signifies romance. Orange represents joy and stimulation. Yellow suggests happiness and intellect but can be disturbing if overused. Green indicates nature, growth, and safety. Blue symbolizes depth, trust, and calmness. Purple conveys royalty and ambition. White suggests purity and cleanliness while black denotes power and formality but also mystery and death. Different shades of each color can have more specific meanings.
The document contrasts characteristics of modernism/modernity with postmodernity/postmodernism. It discusses how postmodernity rejects master narratives and universal theories in favor of local narratives and contingent theories. Additionally, it notes that postmodernity questions ideas of social unity and cultural hierarchy, embraces uncertainty and pluralism, and values surface level imagery and play over notions of depth and authenticity.
Postmodern films draw attention to their constructed nature through techniques like self-referential elements, nonlinear narratives, and mixing of genres. They reference other media and popular culture to keep audiences at a distance. Landmark postmodern films include Scream, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Cabin in the Woods, Tropic Thunder, Zombie Land, and Shaun of the Dead. Postmodern films question social norms and allow audiences to understand intertextual references. However, some criticize that they lack coherent internal logic. Postmodern film emerged in reaction to modernist cinema's focus on formal elements and authorial vision.
Fredric Jameson is an American literary critic and Marxist political theorist born in 1934. Some of his notable ideas include his analysis of postmodernism and views on production and consumption under capitalism. He is criticized for arguing that postmodernism challenges the very concept of truth and education, and that it can result in extreme individualism and ethical relativism without a shared basis of values. However, postmodernism encompasses a broad range of thinkers and specific theories may have more nuanced interpretations.
1) The document discusses the author's A2 media studies coursework which was a music video they created for the song "Hey There Delilah" by The Plain White T's.
2) The music video uses both linear and interweaving narrative structures to tell the story of a heartbroken male artist recording his latest single in the studio while also showing flashbacks to his inspirations and experiences for the song.
3) The author analyzes how they used techniques like camerawork, editing, sound, and mise-en-scene to represent the narrative and emotions of the protagonist and relate to the target audience according to various narrative theories.
The Plain White T's formed in 1997-1999 as a group of high school friends from Villa Park, Illinois. They played underground shows in Chicago clubs and bars from 1999-2007. In 2007, their song "Hey There Delilah" became a number one hit, achieving platinum status and receiving two Grammy nominations, marking their mainstream breakthrough. The document then outlines the band's subsequent album releases and tours from 2000-2014.
The production log details progress made on a blog and video project. The author has added research pieces to their blog to attract their target audience and enable creating the desired video. They have also independently researched performance locations for their band. To make the blog visually interesting, it includes a range of media like videos, Prezis, and documents. Remaining tasks include uploading location images, confirming and posting a filming timetable, and choosing planning sections.
The document provides details on potential shots and scenes for a music video for the song "Hey There Delilah" by Plain White T's. It describes shots of the artist singing and playing guitar in the studio as well as scenes showing the female subject going about her daily life in New York City. Interspersed would be shots of the two together reminiscing about happy memories from their relationship. The video aims to depict the feelings of longing and missing someone through a blend of the artist's performance and scenes capturing the distance between the former couple.

3. LEAH’S INTERVIEW
LEAH:
“ Y ou can ’ t please
eve r yone so w hy
try?”
Over the past two years, Leah Ferroussat has shifted 12
million singles and 4.5 million albums worldwide. But, as
we find out, it’s not always been easy…
ARTICLE AND PICTURES BY
GRACE ARNELL
The journey is more importan
t in music than where you end up. Those
are the words that really stuck in my mind
from the last time we interviewed Leah. But
what did we expect? Then, having released
only one single to then be propelled to stardom after winning the Brit Awards’ Critics’
Choice Statuette we could tell we hadn’t
even seen half her talent yet. She was a charismatic motormouth that was not afraid to
speak her mind and didn’t care
who didn’t like her as she was
therefore her music and fans
nothing more not even popularity - maybe that’s why she’s
so successful, you can’t please
everyone so why try? So, when
we asked what she meant by
the title of debut single ‘The
Guy I Could Be’, that was her
response ‘Guys have such laid
back responses to life so why
can’t I with music? I mean
it’s got me this far hasn’t it?
second album, ‘This is me’, still as chirpier
as ever. Yet when we approach her with
tricky questions we are met with a pause
for thought. And when the issue of the media portrayal of her relationship is brought
up she declines to comment saying she’s in
this for music not for gossip like some silly
little sl*ts. This, you suspect, is a woman
who’s spent the last couple of years learning
about of fame’s dark side, wanting to be
known for her music but doesn’t care if she
isn’t liked.
comes to performing I love it I mean what
artist wouldn’t and if they say they don’t
they are bullsh*tting. Another stressful time
is during meet and greets… so you’re giving
a group of fans some attention and thanks
for liking your music etc but then you get
pulled away and told to do an promotional interview and I stand there like ‘I don’t
care how famous I am or who likes me Im
about the music that’s all’ I mean I’ve got
to the point now where stuff like that is
laughable I mean have they not realised yet?
You did the Concert for
Stephen Lawrence at the
O2. Is that a cause that
is close to your heart?
‘Definitely, I feel a duty
to try to help cut gun and
knife crime in any way I
can no matter what the situation, I mean they happened at my school and
you hear about it in the
news so why wouldn’t you
want to help in any way I’m
just fortunate I can help with my music
which is something I love. Stuff people
witness is horrific and I’m glad I can help.
Some artists really
piss me off!

with my voice – damage or something and
was told to cut down singing or something.
It really got to me I’d just started my journey in the music industry and they wanted to take it away from me. I wasn’t going
to let that happen so I put myself on vocal
rest occasionally but I can’t do much more,
just look after myself. But when getting that
news the first thing I thought to myself was
“I’m not gonna give up.” I’m not that person’I
mean I’ve always told others not to so why
should I… hypercritical much. Everyone has
a go at me for pushing myself to hard sometimes but I don’t see it I’m naturally a laid
back person and the fansget that so
I don’t care what the media can say.
used anyway. I’ve had fans go “I didn’t mean
it. I just wanted to get your attention.” This
makes me laugh even more. I do read my
time line though I mean I don’t care what
people like that say, it doesn’t affect me.
Do other female artists annoy
you
with their
approach
to the media?
‘A lot of artists do and it is especially the females, I understand you want to be known
but seriously have some class and dignity
about it. They love to play the victim which
really annoys me I mean they know what they
she’s bloody amazing at the lucky b*tch! Ellie is one of my good friends and I think she
is one of the few artists that can sing a love
song with class and doesn’t do it often unlike
some artists that base every song they sing on
their ex. I mean it is ridiculous to say the least.
You wrote Miley Cyrus’s first Top single,
‘Party in the USA’. Did you see her twerking?
‘I think everyone has seen her twerking and
it’s bloody horrible to put it nicely. Some of
the things she’s doing are a little crazy, but
she’s probably trying really hard to get away
from the Hannah Montana thing but seriously she is trying way too hard its embarrassing. I love it when each artist is to their own
and whats to be unique, if anything i respect
that they arent changing but, everything she
does is just a show. She’s so young and has
so much going for her but she has screwed
up her life, she wont be able to get away
from this image she has made herself now.
I guess she does get some respect from me
though as doing that in the public eye isn’t
easy but she needs to get some class about
her. I’ve done or worn things in the past that
looking back I’m like “Whoa!”but I never
took it to her extreme, I like to see myself
with some class and I will keep it that way
thanks. I’m not desperate for attention you
either like me or not it doesn’t bother me.
So let’s just hope she never does it again.
“ I’m not desperate
for attention you
either like me or
not it doesn’t
bother me. ”
Have you had a lot of abuse
from the media or the public?
‘Oh yeah sometimes it seems like
they don’t f*cking stop! I’ve had death
threats for cancelling! But seriously the
social media are the worst its always
one bloody extreme to the other and
if you’re in the middle they don’t give
a sh*t or just twist things. It doesn’t
bother me, but sometimes it p*sses
me off yet I still find it funny reading
things about me I didn’t even know I
mean they take learning new things
about yourself or learning a new thing every
day too far it’s cr*p. And the fans can be just as
bad you get the ones that love your music saying “I LOVE YOU!” or those ones that scream
“I HATE YOU AND I WANT YOU TO DIE.”
because they don’t like what you do I mean
if you don’t like it don’t listen to it … simple.
There’s no middle ground everything’s an extreme, because people want to be noticed.’
How do you deal with the death
threats
you
recieve
from
people?
‘Well, I used to comment back, but I’ve
learnt it’s a complete waste of time and they
probably don’t understand half the words I
032
got themselves into so why make it worse for
yourself. No one’s ever heard me sing “He
broke my heart” or “I’m fed up and I’m gonna
give up.” I’m not that girland to be honest never want to be yeah some of my songs might be
more calm than others but I don’t go righting
about every relationship issue under the sun.
I never was and I never will be. I always try
to switch it around like “Okay. If you want to
cheat on me, I’ll see you later.”’ I must admit
though I love Ellie Goulding, I mean her attitude towards music is amazing, she doesn’t
care about if she is liked she just concentrates
on her music and nothing else. It’s all about
the music for her and it’s like her hobby that’s

singer
song
writer?
Honestly, I had so many I couldn’t say, I loved
bands such as Cold Play and solo artists like
Ellie Goulding, though I have to she’s my best
friend. Cold Play I listen to constantly I mean
their music is… I guess you could say real, as
in no sh*t songs about love or cr*p auto tune. I
really respect these people because they wrote
their own songs, they didn’t get someone to
do it for them. It’s not only the artists that inspired me its stuff like festivals I mean I love
Reading festival! I mean the live music, diverse people and just everything about the
festivals are amazing and I’m going to see it
from a completely different view this year!
The artist I love is Passenger, I mean his song
that he wrote is called “I hate” is the best,
I just wish i though t of it myself, it’s about
all those fake people and I show every person that hasn’t heard it because I just think
it sums up so many people in the world.
So I’m guessing you’re excited to be a part
of Reading festival this year as an act?
Yes! Are you joking! I’m like a little girl in
a sweet shop, I couldn’t be happier; it’s like
a dream come true. Forget the money and
fame that some artists perform for it’s all
about the experience for me and I’ve grown
up going to Reading so playing at Reading
is an honour. I just hope I don’t screw up!
Its not just the performing I’m excited about it’s also the other bands playing to that i can listen to live for the
first time i think it will be amazing!
Did you always want to be a singer?, or did you
consider another job when you were younger?
When I was younger I went to all the singing and dancing schools possible, I was just
a music freak but never did the school performances I mean id never dance around
the stage I hated the attention. So I guess
I’m not like normal girls or artists because
I don’t change for anyone. When I was in
school and got asked what I wanted to be
when I grew up and I always said singer. The
teachers would tell me I needed a proper
profession and now I guess I’ve proven them
wrong, I’m doing something I love and met
the most amazing people possible. But I
guess at one point i wanted to be a doctor,
i mean i wasnt good at science or anything
but I loved to help people. Looking back on
it know though I’m so glad m not a doctor I mean I’d faint at the first sight of blood.
What have you got in store for
us next? Another album maybe?
Another Album! Are you taking the p*ss!
Single maybe but not Album, I know I
love music and everything but I don’t
live in the recording studio! I do want
a social life to see family so I guess that if
people want another album from me
they will have to wait… I don’t care.
Do
you
watch
programs
such
as
the
X
–
factor?
No its sh*t, fake and staged, occasionally
you get the one or two every few years
that can sing but usually none of them can
they all use auto tune and it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t actually sing live.
And plus they are all about the money…
pr*cks! And they forget about where they
came from I mean look at that girl and…
Little Chicks? Oh Little Mix, them girls.
Did you always want to be a singer or
do you find it too stressful that you
would prefer to be something else?
When I was younger I went to all the
singing and dancing schools possible, I
was just a music freak but never did the
school performances I mean id never
dance around the stage I hated the attention. So I guess I’m not like normal girls
or artists because I don’t change for anyone. When I was in school and got asked
what I wanted to be when I grew up and
I always said singer. The teachers would
tell me I needed a proper profession and
now I guess I’ve proven them wrong, I’m
doing something I love and met the most
amazing people possible. Don’t get me
wrong sometimes it can be so stressful
but can’t all jobs? I mean I wanted to be a
doctor at one point and that is a stressful
job in itself so I must of got an easy job
compared to them as I’m not saving lives!
Do
you
watch
programs such as the X – factor?
No its sh*t, fake and staged, occasionally you
get the one or two every few years that can
sing but usually none of them can they all
use auto tune and it wouldn’t surprise me if
they didn’t actually sing live. And plus they
are all about the money… pr*cks, its their
fault that people that cant sing are getting
number ones. I mean who actually buys and
listens to their singles! And they forget about
where they came from I mean look at that
girl and… Little Chicks? Oh Little Mix, them
girls, they are just aweful and i blame the
X-factor for allowing them to sing in public.
“ X-Factor. . .Money
Grabin’ Pr*cks the
lot of them!”
Last question I promise… Do
you ever struggle with fame?
‘Sometimes, the media just don’t
give you a break and when I got
take in with my illness they were
there, in my face flashing the
camera and everything , I mean
they only care about their story
and I care about me so we aren’t going to get
along. That’s the bit I hate. That’s the bit I…
[Sighs] those are the moments when I lose
faith in the public as I just realise what this
world is coming to… its… shocking. Even a
doctor asked for my autograph I mean it was
turning into a joke. I’ve learnt to be true to
myself and so if anyone doesn’t like me, like
the media it’s their problem and not mine.
“I’m so sociable and love to
make meet new people all
the time. I guess you could
say I’m always that embarassing friend that you just
wish would be quiet sometimes. My favoutrite song is
Passenger, Let her go and I’m
a monster when it comes to
chocolate, I can never have
enough.”
